IIUI PRESIDENT MEETS FOREIGN TEACHERS

President, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh met with foreign faculty members at new campus.

Dr. Al- Draiweesh said on the occasion that foreign faculty members are distinction of IIUI and urged them to take part in seminars and conferences of the university so that promotion of education cause be further strengthened. IIUI President also listened to the problems of teachers and constituted a committee to solve the issues within minimum time.

The meeting was attended by foreign faculty members hailing from 9 faculties of the university who thanked IIUI President for continuous support and cooperation.

 

IIUI HOLDS SEMINAR ON INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) marked the international women day on Wednesday, where a seminar on “Pakistani Women’s potential for self-development in the contemporary world: An Islamic perspective was held at the varsity’s Faisal Masjid campus.

Partnering with Lead Pakistan, Pakistan Agricultural Research Council, Pakistan Meteorological Department, the Hashoo Foundation, the Technology Times Scientific Newspaper and International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), this event at IIUI brought together experts and professionals from multiple disciples and professional spheres to celebrate women’s achievements.

The seminar was attended by Chairperson Benazir Income Support Program, Marvi Memon, Rector IIUI, Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, President IIUI, Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, Director female campus, IIUI Dr. Samina Malik and other high officials of the university.

Marvi Memon, in her speech stressed upon the need for women to be assertive and to accept challenges. She urged upon the young women to celebrate their contributions as active members of the society by sharing responsibilities for the progress of our country as agents of change. She opined that by following teachings of Islam women can lead the country towards the destination of prosperity.

IIUI Rector, said in his remarks that IIUI is the best place for celebration of the International Women’s Day as university has more than 13 thousand on campus female students who hail from more than 40 countries of the world. He added that university has an ample collection of the cultural diversity which represents a unique harmony.

President IIUI said on the occasion Islam is staunch supporter of women rights. He said that Islam advocates education of women and it is the religion which gave women their due rights of property and family. He said that separate female campus for the female students is IIUI’s distinction and its female staff and students have proved that women have a vital contribution in the progress of Muslim Ummah. In the program, students also delivered speeches on the topic. At the end, Dr. Samina Malik, Director Female Campus, gave the vote of thanks.

 

ASA HOLDS OATH TAKING CEREMONY

Newly elected members of Academic Staff Association (ASA) of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) sworn in, in an oath taking ceremony held at male campus of university here on Wednesday. President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh administrated the oath to the newly elected ASA members who joined the ASA body.

On the occasion, Prof Dr. Abdul Jaleel, took oath as President ASA while the oath taking ceremony was also attended by university Vice Presidents newly elected ASA members, old members of the association, Deans, Directors, and large number of academic community of IIUI.

Dr. Shehzad Ashraf Chaudhary has joined ASA as General Secretary, Dr. Faiz ur Rahim as Vice President (male), Dr. Taimia as Vice President female, Dr. Maliha Asma as Joint Secretary female, Dr. Zaheer ud Din Behram as Finance Secretary, Dr. Sameen Aftab as Information Secretary female, Mr. Atif Sahi as information secretary male and Dr. Habibullah as joint secretary.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Al-Draiweesh said teachers have vital role in dissemination of knowledge in the society and spreading knowledge, involving people in education is actually equal to following of the teachings of Holy Prophet (PBUH). “IIUI is heading towards a destination of success and achievements of its lofty goals, it’s becoming possible with the united efforts by the administration and academic staff” said President IIUI.

He vowed that steps for the prosperity of the teaching community of university and its problems would be seen by a committee of Vice Presidents and Director female campus who will come up soon with practical solutions to the issues. Dr. Al-Draiweesh urged the participants of the ceremony to forge unity among their ranks and refrain from personal differences.

While congratulating the new members of ASA, Dr. Al-Draiweesh vowed full support and hoped new addition to the association would be proved as meaningful development for the varsity. President ASA, Dr. Abdul Jaleel stressed in his address that academic excellence must be the top priority.

Earlier, former President ASA, Dr. Zafar Iqbal presented a comprehensive report of the body while mentioning key achievements. He hailed teaching community of the university for support, and vowed to cooperate with newly elected members for achievement of goals which he said would pave way for the progress of university.

Shields to the former President ASA Dr. Zafar Iqbal and other former members were awarded by President IIUI, while a crest was also presented to Dr. Al-Draiweesh from ASA. Later, a luncheon was held in the honour of the President IIUI, newly elected ASA members and academic community.

 

 

GOVT WORKING TO PREPARE COMPREHENSIVE NATIONAL CURRICULUM: BALIGH UR REHMAN

Government is speedily working to prepare a comprehensive national curriculum with the help of provinces, said Minister of State for Federal Education and Professional Training Engineer Muhammad Baligh ur Rehman.

He was addressing a two-day international conference on “Role of Islamic Universities in Teaching of Arabic to Non-Native speakers” which concluded at Faisal Masjid Campus of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI).

The conference was organized by the Faculty of Arabic of the university where national and international scholars, experts of Arabic language and varsity’s veteran faculty members presented around 50 papers to explore ways of promotion of Arabic language.

“Inclusion of teaching of Quran with Nazra and translation in the curriculum at different level of school education is the prime focus of the ministry and soon a bill of compulsory Quran education at schools will be passed from the house parliament” he said . He added that curriculum will be designed in line with the contemporary needs by focusing on character building, civic sense and national unity.

The minister maintained that Islam was complete code of life and government was focused on providing contemporary education to youth integrated with teachings of Islam. Talking about the improvements in the higher education, the minister furthered that government, in terms of grants to universities through Higher Education Commission, has increased the funding from 41 billion to 91 billion. He shed light on the importance of technical education and told that government was also mulling to offer short courses of spoken Arabic to technical education people so they could perform better being in Arab countries. The Minister also hailed the IIUI and its services, and said that it has always shown presence of foreign students at its campuses which was a distinction, while he also termed IIUI as the most vital institution which can play pivotal role in promotion of education.

Dr. Masoom Yasinzai opined in his speech that it was necessary to learn Arabic for having accurate comprehension of Quran. He said that IIUI was always ready to work with government for promotion of Arabic language, while he suggested that students of Madaris be utilized for managing Arabic faculty deficit. He also told that IIUI was also mulling over launching virtual Arabic learning programs as well.

He called upon the Muslim societies to teach Arabic to Youth and termed it as a pre-requisite for comprehension of teachings of Islam.

Earlier, Dr. Muhammad Bashir briefed the participants about aims and objectives and papers presented in the conference.

The two day moot was also attended by scholars of 14 Mulsim countries including experts from Al-Azhar University of Egypt, Kingdom if Saudi Arabia, Uganda, Malaysia, Indonesia, Oman and others.

 

DEPARTMENT OF SOCIOLOGY HOLDS SEMINAR ON SELF-IMPROVEMENT OF THE STUDENTS

The Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social Sciences International Islamic University Islamabad arranged a Seminar on “Self-Improvement of the Students”. Mr. Atif Mirza, a renowned motivational speaker and bestselling author was the guest speaker, while Dr. Muhammad Munir, Vice President (HS& R) IIUI presided over the seminar. The seminar was attended by faculty members and large number of students of different departments including sociology, psychology, mass media, political science, management and Sharia & law.

In his comprehensive talk, Mr. Atif Mirza talked on the significance of self-motivation in routine life. He emphasized the role of actions in developing positive behavior among the students and its relationship with success. Mr Atif motivated the students to identify their positive emotions and urged them to make those emotions part of their routine life. Furthermore, he elaborated the techniques of mind management and the way that students could use those techniques in making a successful career. While encouraging the students, Mr. Atif Mirza said IIU is one of highly recognized institutes of the county and advised students that they should do their best efforts.

At the end, Dr. Hazir Ullah acknowledged the efforts of Sociological Forum IIUI and appreciated its active participation. Dr. Hazir thanked all the participants and stressed the students to focus on their studies and affirmed the commitment that the department is dedicated to actively raising students learning through classroom interactions in teaching, seminars, workshop and extra-curricular activities. A souvenir was also presented to the Mr. Atif Mirza.

 

IIUI HOLDS MOOT ON ROLE OF ISLAMIC UNIVERSITIES IN TEACHING OF ARABIC

A two-day international conference on “Role of Islamic Universities in Teaching of Arabic to Non-Native speakers” commenced here at Faisal Masjid Campus of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI).

The conference is being organized by the Faculty of Arabic of the university where national and international scholars, experts of Arabic language and varsity’s veteran faculty members will present around 50 papers to explore ways of promotion of Arabic language.

Inaugural ceremony of the conference was joined by Sardar Muhammad Yousaf, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs as Chief Guest who called upon the Muslim societies to teach Arabic to Youth and termed it as a pre-requisite for comprehension of teachings of Islam. He added that government is focusing on promotion of Arabic language and Holy Quran. He said the IIUI is the most vital educational institution which can help in setting a roadmap of teaching of Arabic to youth.

The event was also addressed Senator Talha Mehmood who said that IIUI is providing quality education to Muslim Youth integrated with teachings of Islam which is appreciable. He opined the teachings of Holy Quran are better comprehended by those who have better understanding of Arabic language. He urged youth to focus on learning of Arabic while saying that it is essential to have knowledge of Islamic civilization.

JUSTICE PRE-REQUISITE FOR EXQUISITE SOCIETY, IIUI PRESIDENT

Justice is a pre-requisite for an exquisite society and it is an attribute of developed and civilized societies, said Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI).

He was addressing the concluding ceremony of a seminar on “ International Humanitarian Law for Judges and Prosecutors” jointly organized by Shariah Academy of the IIUI and International Committee of the Red Cross (IRCR)for the participants of academy’s 58th training program of judges.

The IIUI President hailed the effort of Shariah Academy and termed the course as a constructive activity. He also highlighted the goals and objectives of the university and shed light on the efforts of its outreach programs, its training courses through constituent units and arrangements of the moots for exploring solution to the problems being faced my Muslim societies.

The ceremony was also attended by the ICRC officials including its resource persons of the seminar. Earlier, Dr. Muhammad Munir, Vice President, IIUI also delivered a lecture on International Humanitarian Law and Siyar.

 

IIUI PRESIDENT CALLS FOR DISCOURAGING NEGATIVE ATTITUDES

President, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI), Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh addressed the participants of a concluding ceremony of 91st three-month training program for Aima o Khutba at Dawah Academy, where he called upon the Islamic scholars to play role in discouraging the negative attitudes prevailing in the society.

He said Muslim world can solve issues of violence, sectarianism and extremism by forging unity among ranks. He stressed that guidance must be taken from Quran and Sunnah as Muslims have best sources to deal with their problems. He urged the participants to put aside mutual differences and asked them to work for the cause of establishing well-balanced societies in the lights of Islamic teachings.

As many as 33 participants across the country attended the course who got training on various aspects and topics including computer, Principles of Fiqh, comparative religion, Pakistan studies and research method etc.

The concluding ceremony of the course was also attended by Dr. Sohail Hassan, Director Dawah academy and other high officials of the academy.

 

VP INAUGURATES PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES CLINIC AT FEMALE CAMPUS

A Psychological Services Clinic was inaugurated here at female campus at the department of Psychology by Vice President Academics, IIUI Dr. Muhammad Bashir Khan.

The inaugural ceremony was also attended by Dean Social Sciences Dr. Nabi Bux Jummani, Director Academics Dr. Tahir Khalily, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Shabbir Ahmed Kallu, Director Female Campus, Dr. Samina Malik, chairperson of the department and other relevant officials and faculty members.

Dr Bashir Khan said on the occasion that this clinic will open new horizons of research and practice for the scholars and students. He was of the view that prevailing circumstances lead individuals towards various mental disorders. He emphasized that the clinic should also focus on urging the patients for human to human interaction and said that gadgets have made the world virtual which becomes a cause of psychological issues.

The event was also addressed by Dr. Nabi Bux Jummani, Dr. Shabbir Ahmed Kallu, Dr. Tahir Khalily and Dr. Samina Malik who hailed the efforts of department and termed the establishment of the clinic as a constructive development.

 

DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY & PAKISTAN STUDIES HOLDS LECTURE

Department of History & Pakistan Studies, International Islamic University, Islamabad organized a lecture in commemoration of 70 years of creation of Pakistan. Roger D. Long, Professor in the Department of History & Philosophy, Eastern Michigan University, USA delivered the lecture titled “Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Liaquat Ali Khan and Pakistan: A 70 years’ perspective.”

Prof. Long in his lecture threw light on the vision and struggle of Quaid-i-Azam and the way he envisioned as Muslim state separate from Hindu domination.

He also in detail explained the role of Muhammad Ali Jinnah for making Muslims united in the struggle of Pakistan. Prof. Long said Liaquat Ali Khan was his staunch associate in this endeavor to make the dream true.

He further said that Muslim leadership strived hard for creation of Pakistan and afterwards Quaid-i-Azam and Liaquat Ali Khan were the men who worked for transforming Pakistani state and society according to the Islamic concept of social welfare.

Prof. Long in his extensive lecture expressed his gratitude towards such great leaders as Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Liaquat Ali Khan. The lecture was presided over by Prof. Dr. Nabi Bux Jumani, Dean FSS, whereas Chairpersons, faculty members and students of different departments of Faculty of Social Sciences attended the lecture. The distinguished historian Prof. Dr. M. Naeem Qureshi was also present. At the end, a question answer session was held followed by concluding remarks by Dean, FSS.
