Dean’s Message

I am delighted that you are thinking to come to obtain your degree from the Faculty of Arabic (IIUI). The Arabic language is no more ascribed to certain race, rather being the tool of learning and thinking for the whole Muslim community since the advent of Islam, 14 centuries ago. The Islamic character of the Faculty is reflected in teaching Arabic Literature of various Muslim regions such as Arab World, Muslim Spain and Indian Sub-continent. In-addition, many courses in the language and style of the Quran are offered.

The international character of our program is reflected in offering courses in modern linguistics, stylistics, discourse analysis, modern literary criticism, comparative literature and English.

Objectives
To produce specialists in various academic sphere of Arabic language in order to promote understanding of Holy Quran.

To produce an ideal program for teaching non-Arab students as required by the studies of their environment with a view to their development of Arabic language and literature in their respective countries.

To develop the skill/knowledge of students in Arabic language as required by the Holy Quran and Sunnah (the traditions of Holy Prophet PBUH).

Participation and contribution for promotion of Arabic in Pakistan in view of its fresh importance in the wake of present drive to implement Shariah in the country. The Islamization of country’s Law cannot materialize without the dissemination of knowledge of Arabic language. In order to realize these objectives, the Faculty offers various courses in linguistics and literary studies taught by some distinguished members of Academic Staff from Arab countries.

Our Approach

The great importance attached to the Faculty, becomes clear from the above mentioned. This importance emerges from the increasing interest showed by Pakistan in Arabic, the distinctive status of IIUI amongst the Pakistani Universities for it makes Arabic fundamental ingredients in its academic programmes. This importance is augmented by the satisfactory programmes of the faculty, the courses that it offers and the academic & research load placed on it, as these courses resemble the programmes offered by the faculties and departments of Arabic Language in the renowned Universities of the Arab world such as Al-Azhar and Cairo Universities.

The predetermined objectives of the faculty are:

  • A general and a basic objective that serves the International Islamic University particularly and the state of Pakistan in general and that objective is; patronage of Arabic Language within and without the University and its strengthening in this part of the world.
  • The specific objective related to B.A (Hons.) level is to equip students with a sufficient amount of knowledge in various branches and specializations of Arabic language combining all areas of old and modern knowledge so that it both the quality of originality and the understanding of contemporary trends. To sum up, it would combine both the heritage and new methodologies.
  • The specific objective related to Master level is to enable the students to conduct quality of research in the various branches and specializations of Arabic language. The nature of this study is vertical (specialized & in-depth) which takes care of the theoretical and practical aspects in methodologies of research in the areas of both language and literature so that the students may be equipped with and trained on the use of basic research tools.
  • The specific objectives related to Ph.D is to enable the student to grasp the area of his specialization, to get high command over his selected branch, to be able to analyze that branch deducting the findings based on research methodologies and to be able to write research articles in these areas.

The Faculty strives to produce the manpower that will contribute towards the development of Pakistan and the Muslim Ummah to gain a competitive edge in the global village. This is achieved by providing state of the art knowledge and skills required and in vogue in the fast changing business world along with sound social and ethical values of Islam.
