RESEARCH MUST BE RELEVANT TO ADDRESS SOCIETAL PROBLEMS, DR. MASOOM

Academic research should be directly relevant to the society, relevant to the needs and problems of the society. It is need of the time to promote research culture in the universities, which must develop linkages to the socio-economic up-lift of the society.

This was said by the Dr. Masoom Yasinzai Rector International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) while addressing the certificateORIC Meeting distribution ceremony organized by Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization ORIC in honor of research scholars of IIUI who achieved different research grants for their research projects.

It’s worth mentioning here that 70 research projects in different disciplines were approved by donor agencies including Higher Education Commission (HEC) Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and USAID submitted by IIUI research scholars that clinched the grant of worth 293.08 million.

The ceremony was also attended by Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh President IIUI, Mr Khalid Mehmood Raja, Director General, Deans, Directors and faculty members of the university.

Dr. Masoom while congratulated the faculty members on their achievements urged that the research must be problem oriented which must be beneficial for the society. “Researchers play very vital and prominent role for the development of any society”, he added. Rector IIUI mentioned that university is currently working on different research projects directly relevant to contemporary needs and problems of the commuters.

Dr. Masoom urged faculty members to set an example for others to promote research activities in the university. He further added that IIUI has second largest number of research students in Pakistan.

On the occasion, Dr. Al-Draiweesh while appreciated the efforts of research scholars said that today’s event is the evidence that the university is heading toward progress rapidly. He stressed upon the researchers that their research must be integrated with Quran and Sunnah.  “Our focus should be on teaching, research and social welfare, which are interdependent”.

ORIC Group PhotoPresident IIUI added. Dr. Al-Draiweesh hoped that all relevant departments would be facilitated by the research projects particularly students scholars. He vowed to establish research unit in every faculty of the university to promote research culture which would have great impact in this regard.

Dr. Abdul Hameed Director ORIC briefed the participant about on-going research projects in detail. He said such encouragement over the success of research projects would also motivate other scholars to work hard for achievement. Dr Abdul Hamid said that university research database of faculty members will be completed soon. Appreciation certificates were distributed by university teachers at the end of the event.
