DISTANCE EDUCATION DIRECTORATE HOLDS SEMINAR ON COMPETENCIES OF TEACHER EDUCATORS

The Directorate of Distance Education (DDE), International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) organized a seminar on “Evaluation of the Competencies of Teacher Educators in Pakistan” heldhere at Allama Iqbal Auditorium, Faisal Masjid Campus of the university.

Prof. Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President (IIUI) was the Chief Guest in the seminar. Addressing to the participants Dr. Al Draiweesh said that Education is key to success while IIU’s Department of Education, International IIUI has taken several initiatives to address the challenges of teacher education by exploring ways to improve the scenarios of teacher educators’ professional development and  training programs. He added that such focus group discussions and seminars will further lead to improve the effective role of teachers.

The focus of discussion was to evaluate the existing situation of competencies of teacher educators in Pakistan keeping in view the international standards and to provide the recommendations for the improvement in the field of teacher education.

Prof. Dr. Samina Malik, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences and Prof. Dr. Nabi Bux Jumani, Director Distance Education Directorate, IIUI chaired the program.  The seminar was also attended by teacher educators from Rawalpindi and Islamabad who critically discussed the gaps and challenges in competencies of teacher educators and provided further recommendations on the occasion.
