The Department of Politics and International Relations, International Islamic University, Islamabad organized a one day seminar “Academic Research and Publishing “at Faisal Masjid campus.
The seminar was aimed to augment the research, writing and analytical skills of the students enrolled in MS and Phd programs in Politics and I.R Department of the university.
The guest speaker for the occasion was Professor Dr. Muhammad Ahsan who is Dean Faculty of Advanced Studies and Research, Islamic Online University, UK. Dr Manzoor Afridi, Head of the Department of Politics and I.R, Prof Dr Amna Mehmood, Chairperson of the Department of Politics and I.R, Prof. Dr Mansoor Kundi, Lecturer, Masood Ur Rehman Khattak focal person of the seminar and AssistantProfessor TauqeerHussain Sargana along with more than 200 hundred students of the department were present at the occasion.
Prof. Dr Muhammad Ahsan in his lecture highlighted the importance of academic writing and publishing and briefly discussed the challenges, MS or Phd level student are facing in research, data analysis and topic selection during their time at the university.
Dr. Ahsan said Academic writing is precise, clear and with objective language. He highlighted the importance of correct grammar in academic writing. He said academic writing must be soft and in formal not the style used in newspapers, novels, magazines, or everyday conversation, etc. he was of the view that it must be supported with logical statements based on reasoning.
Dr Ahsan also highlighted that 20% planned efforts would give you 80% positive results whereas 80% unplanned work would produce 20% results. The worthy speaker also discussed the importance of time management in research.
Earlier, Dr. Kundi in his inaugural address thanked the speaker and recalled his experience of working with him. In his address, he emphasized on the importance of academic writing and extended his gratitude to the speaker for enlightening the audience with his vast experience in teaching and research.
In the Q/A session, students eagerly participated and asked questions relevant to their MS and Phd research. Followed by that Prof. Dr. Amna Mehmood thanked the worthy speaker and added a few things related to academic writing and publishing. Dr Manzoor Afridi concluded the seminar with vote of thanks and presented souvenir to the respected speaker for his very useful and informative lecture to the students of Politics and I.R, International Islamic University Islamabad.
