t of the Quranic Studies, Islamic Research Institute arranged a lecture on: “Maulana Hamiduddin Farahi ka Nazm-e-Quran aur uski Ma‘naviyyat” by a well-known scholar Prof. Dr. Abdu Sufyan Islahi, Aligarh Muslim University.
This lecture was presided by Professor Dr. Muhammad Al-Ghazali, Editor, Al-Dirasat Al-Islamiyyah.
A large number of academicians, researchers, intellectuals and students of IIUI attended the lecturer. Prof. Dr. Islahi said that Farahi’s thoughts can be divided into 3 stages, his stay in Aligarh, his time period at Jamia Usmania Hayderabad Dakkan and his attachment with Madrassah Al-Islaah, Azamgarh. He also presented a brief account on Maulana Farahi’s life, family background, works and his concept of Nazm-e-Quran.
The speaker also discussed Maulana Farahai’s relation to the thoughts of Sir Syed. He told that Maulana Farahi was of the view that all sciences may be studied under the guidelines of the Quran. He added that Maulana Farahi is of the view that every surah of the Quran has a central theme which is known as ‘Umood and all the other contents of the surah revolve around the main theme. Maulana Farahi divided surahs into 09 groups from the nazm point of view. Furthermore, he told the audience that surahs of the Quran were revealed in couple (zouj). Surah Al-Fatiha is the Preface of the Quran and all the other surahs revolve around the theme of surah Al-Fatiha in one way or the other.
Lastly, he threw light on the research work done by different scholars on Farahi’s thought in detail. At the end, Dr. Muhammad Al-Ghazali gave presidential address and question-answer session was held.
Dr. Hafiz Aftab Ahmad introduced the guest speaker and thanked the guest and participants on behalf of the Director General, IRI Prof. Dr. Muhammad Zia Ul Haq.
