STUDENTS ARE CENTRE OF OUR EFFORTS AND INTENTION, SAYS IIUI PRESIDENT

H.E. Dr. Hathal Homoud Alotaibi, President, International Islamic University (IIU) has said that the university is striving to make an effective mechanism of teaching and learning as well as a comprehensive work is going on  to review curricula so that the university may shine among the leading universities of the word.

He was addressing a workshop titled “ improving teaching and learning at IIUI: practical resources to help teachers” organized here at the new campus by Faculty of Management Sciences (FMS). The opening ceremony of the workshop was also attended by Vice President Academics, Professor Dr. Ayaz Afsar, Vice President Administration and Finance, Professor Dr. N.B. Jumani, Dean FMS, Dr. Abdul Raheman, Masters Trainers of the  workshop Dr Zaheer Abbas and Dr Zara Tahir, and faculty members of all the departments of FMS.

It is imperative to meet the needs of the hour, a reviewed curriculum compatible to the prevalent requirements is a prerequisite for academic excellence and quality higher education, said H.E. Dr. Hathal. He said it is imperative that we must know our underutilized resources, adding that IIUI has the best human resource that has potential to shine.He said IIUI’s faculty has all the standards and capabilities that are required of any university to join the ranks of top international institutions.

Emphasizing the need of training to enhance the capabilities and polish the skills of human resource,  IIU President said that training and activities shall be initiated in future  to make IIU faculty more skillful and compliant to the needs of the hour .The Honorable President said that a student centric approach is being adopted as students are the centre of our efforts and intention.

Calling upon faculty to focus on students’ learning and facilitation, he said that no stone shall be left unturned to ensure exquisite teaching and learning  experience in addition to the accurate assessment. He told that promotion of the faculty members is also part of the priority list of the management and there shall soon be a transparent and fair policy introduced in this regard to encourage the skilled, well versed  faculty. He added that incompetence shall not be tolerated at the university . He said we want to bring the best human resource in the university to make IIU a most demanded institution adding that this process shall be completed through hard work on bringing the capable faculty.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Ayaz Afsar said that the workshop is a continuation of the efforts started a few weeks back on the same title with the Deans and now it shall be implemented in the faculties. He said that as per vision of  university President the prime focus is effective teaching, preparation of new curricula with an approach to sensitize the teachers that university is going to transform in pursuit of international recognition in academic excellence. He  hailed the FMS adding that it has potential and capability to lead this process of transformation and set an example that success is possible through hard work and dedication.

Dr Abdul Raheman apprised of the objectives and sessions of the workshop saying that the prime focus is to take steps to improve research and discuss the teaching practices at undergraduate level. He thanked Worthy President, Vice Presidents and master trainers for their support and efforts. He said the activity is also conducted to develop a students focused approach with exposure of  best teaching and learning practices to make IIU a renowned educational institution. He also apprised of the recently prepared strategic plan of the faculty in the line of university’s strategic plan.
