IRD HOLDS CONDOLENCE REFERENCE IN MEMORY OF DR. MUMTAZ AHMED (LATE)

IMG_20160404_110420Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed (Late) was paid rich tribute to his determined and untiring efforts and contributions for research and education in Pakistan in a condolence reference which was held by Iqbal International Institute of Research and Dialogue (IIUI), International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI).IMG_20160404_112056

Dr. Mumtaz was heading IRD as Executive Director breathed his last after protracted illness at the age 76. Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed brought teaching experience and international exposure of more than three decades and joined IIUI in 2007 and served university as Vice President, President and Executive Director IRD.

Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh President IIUI, Dr. Muhammad Munir VicePresident Higher Studies & Research (HSR), Dr. Sohail Hassan Director Dawah Academy, Dr. Talib Hussain Sial Director Programs IRD including large number of academicians, administrative officers, staff and students joined the reference. While sharing his reflections Dr. Al-Draiweesh expressed his extreme sorrow and grief over the sad demise of Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad said that he was a great thinker and intellectual.

“The space being created by Dr. Mumtaz’s death would not be engulfed as this is not only loss of Pakistan but also the loss of academic circles around the world” President IIUI further added. Dr. Al-Draiweesh also said that Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad set comprehensive guidelines for the university to determine the cause of progress; since I’ve joined university Dr. Mumtaz was always very kind that he extended his honest consultation and opinion in every case with high satisfaction. Dr. Al-Draiweesh was of the view that Dr. Mumtaz was a champion of interfaith and inter-sect harmony and performed valuable services on the national and international level for the harmonization, peace and prosperity of human being that will always be remembered.

Dr. Zafar Ishaq Ansari said that Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad had a great institution in itself and termed him a man of knowledge having strong analytical power nurtured number of deep rooted plants in shape of young scholars and researchers.  He also mentioned his last meeting with Dr. Mumtaz in a hospital of his last days carrying a book interacted with view that ” don’t you think that few questions on Western thoughts and philosophy that remains to be worked on”. DSC_2271Dr Ansari said that he was quintessential personality that his thoughts and works extremely hard to describe in words.

Dr. Sohail Hassan said in his speech that Dr Mumtaz was a great academician and patriot that he had dedicated association with Pakistan even to engaged in the pursuit of learning and teaching  in USA for many years. “Dr. Mumtaz was a rich in faith and had an unwavering ideological strength that he comes up with critical evaluation and response on every published book in the West on Islam” Dr. Sohail Hassan added. Dr. Talib Hussain paid high tribute to the services and contributions of Dr. Mumtaz at IRD and shared some of memories. He termed him a great human being, a real torch bearer to young scholars who is always encouraging.
