Rector IIUI appreciates standard of university FET
Prof. Fateh Muhammad Malik, Rector, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) visited the Faculty of Engineering & Technology (FET) of the university to interact with the faculty’s management and researchers and see the laboratories and facilities infrastructure. Dean of the faculty Prof. Dr. Ahmed Shuja Syed gave a comprehensive presentation and apprised the Rector on the extent of progress made during the last two years along with futuristic vision and strategic plan for next five years.

Prof. Fateh Muhammad Malik appreciated the fact that the FET is a rising star not only in the university but in the engineering fraternity with many new dimensions added to the overall structure of the faculty in last couple of years. This includes establishment of more than 30 state-of-the art laboratories in the faculty and making it a power house for applied engineering education. This year has seen the establishment of a fully functional Department of Mechanical Engineering with BS, MS and PhD programs in place with Pakistan Engineering Council’s approval. Engineering Management is the third department in row being added to our excellence in such a short time. Faculty of Engineering is the youngest yet most dynamic faculty of all with excellent scoring acquired in Engineering Council’s assessments, initiation of Technology Incubation Facility, Alumni Mobilization & Outreach, Quality Assurance, Guidance & Counseling Unit, Internship, Career Planning & Industrial Liaison Cell, Knowledge Resource Group, etc.

The faculty is also a house to newly developed “Electronic Design Suite”- an international level research grade laboratory for novel electronic design solutions. This is a unique “one-window” concept pioneered for the first time in any Pakistani university. The initiatives taken by the faculty such as open house, nation-wide seminar series and international conferences have certainly raised the university’s visibility on the international scientific map. The students of this faculty have won numerous national level awards in various innovative competitions and engineering contests this year. The changing scenes of the Faculty of Engineering & Technology during the last two years have brought excellent academic standards as well as research output with a vibrant and dynamic strategic partnership program with national organizations and top-ranked international universities. This has raised the employability of FET’s graduates almost double this year with winning recruiting positions as well as record placements at international scholarships. The faculty is the first university in Pakistan having launched dedicated MS and PhD programs in “Energy Engineering” with some leading researchers associated with it. The Rector, on the occasion also expressed his delight on the internal academic auditing and statistical evaluation of the faculty on the basis of ISO-yardstick done by the Dean FET and hinted at extending this exercise to the rest of the University for International Ranking Systems.

Dr. Nouman Ahmad Khan, Chairman Department of Electronic Engineering, Dr. Yaseen Chohan, Chairman Department of Mechanical Engineering, Dr. Arbab Ali Khan, Deputy Dean, PhD faculty members, university officials and Dean FBAS were also present on the occasion.

IIUI publishes “Muslims Today-Changes within, Challenges without”
The International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI)’s Iqbal International Institute for Research and Dialogue (IRD) has published a book “Muslims Today-Changes within, Challenges without” by renowned Malaysian Scholar Dr. Chandra Muzaffar.Dr. Chandra Muzaffar is both a social activist and an academic. He is the President of the International Movement for a Just World (JUST), an international NGO based in Malaysia, which seeks to critique global injustice and to develop an alternative vision of a just and compassionate civilization guided by universal spiritual and moral values. Chandra is also the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the 1Malaysia foundation.

Chandra is the Noordin Sopiee Professor of Global Studies at the Science University of Malaysia (USM) in Penang. He has published extensively on civilization dialogue, international politics, religion, human rights and Malaysia society. The author and editor of 25 books in English and Malay, many of his writings have been translated into other languages.

Chandra travels abroad frequently, giving lectures and speaking at seminars and conferences. He is also a regular speaker at meetings at home in Malaysia.

Chandra is a recipient of a number of academic and community awards from overseas. Chandra is married to Mariam Mohd Hashim and they have two daughters.

Dr. Chandra in his book said that the youth of Muslim Ummah need to do more work significantly to create their impact on other segments of the society. He said that youth are the back bone of Muslim society. According to Dr. Chandra the western world has imposed hegemony to create unrest in the Muslim world for which their controlled economy is responsible.

Dr. Chandra added that the question of injustice is basically responsible for some of the grave challenges facing human beings today. He further said that it will be appropriate that the relevance of the Quranic message of “Tauhid” may be revived. As a unifying worldview, Tauhid contains at least five important beliefs: –

  • Common spiritual origin, mission and destiny of the whole of humanity.
  • Organic unity of existence of the immanent and the transcendent, of life and death, of this world and the hereafter, of man and nature, of individual and community, of man and woman, of the material and the spiritual.
  • Human beings as vicegerent or trustee of Allah almighty on this planet.
  • there are universal moral values and principles which are beneficial to the whole of humankind.
  • human beings, both at the individual and at the collective level, possess universal rights and responsibilities, roles and relationships which help to nurture and nourish a holistic way of life.

Dr. Chandra Muzaffar said that militancy in the Muslim world is due to injustices. Militancy in Iraq & Afghanistan has forced US forces to decide for withdrawal. According to the US forces the militants are visionless. He also criticized the hegemonic attitude of US and predicted that it will no longer live on this planet. He quoted various examples from the history when super powers of old times vanished and were sent to the dust bin of history. Like wise in Chandra Muzaffar’s view US has to face similar fate very soon. Dr. Chandra Muzaffar lauded that China is getting more and more power to play a leading role in the world. He also appreciated Iranian determination in this regard. He hoped that Pakistani youth shall continue their march on same pattern.

The book is comprised of 284 pages with 13 chapters. Here is a bird view of the chapters of the book:
