IIUI CONFERS HONORARY DEGREE TO KING ABDULLAH BIN ABDUL AZIZ AL-SAUD
King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud of Saudi Arabia was conferred honorary degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Politics and International Relations Honoris Cousa by International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), on the occasion of 9th convocation of the university.

President of Pakistan and Chancellor International Islamic University Islamabad Mamnoon Hussain, on recommendations of the Board of Governors, Rector IIUI Dr. Masoom Yasinzai and President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, approved the conferment of degree to King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud.

The university’s highest award was conferred on King Abdullah by IIUI Chancellor and President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain, which was received by Pro-Chancellor IIUI Dr. Sulaiman Ibn Abdullah Aba Al-Khail on behalf of King Abdullah.

King Abdullah, who is the custodian of the two holy mosques in Saudi Arabia, was awarded the degree in recognition of his contributions for welfare of people of Muslim Ummah. He is well known personality for his great interest education cultural aspects and commendable contribution in education, the humanity at large and international peace, harmony and tranquility.

IIUI has also conferred degrees to world famous leaders in its various convocations which include former President of South Africa Nelson Mandela, former Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohammad, Dato Seri Abdullah Haji Ahmad Badawi, Prince Hassan Bin Talal of Jordan and Dr. Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu, Secretary General OIC.

TRAINING PROGRAM AND WORKSHOP FOR BALUCHISTAN TEACHERS CONCLUDE AT IIUI
Rector International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) Dr. Masoom Yasinzai has said teaching is an art, if we want our nation among ranks of developed countries, we would have to spend more on our teachers’ training and welfare.

He was addressing to concluding ceremony of a week- long teachers training program for teachers of Baluchistan province organized by Institute of Professional Development (IPD) of the University at Faisal Mosque campus of the university. Director IPD Dr. Saeed ul Hassan Chishti, Training Management Specialist IPD Saneeha Khalid, IPD Staff and participants of the training program also joined the ceremony.

Dr. Masoom said teachers must be trained by the academies because having degree in any subject is not an eligibility to enter into the holy profession of teaching. He urged that professional development institutes should be made more functional and maximum of our spending should be utilized on teachers training.

Dr. Saeed ul Hassan Chishti said institute would remain committed to provide professional training to the teachers of all regions of Pakistan. Dr. Saneeha Khalid lauded the enthusiasm and interest of the teachers in the program and hoped that it would help them setting new standards in profession of teaching. Certificates of training program were distributed among the teachers.

Meanwhile, being chief guest in concluding ceremony of a workshop titled “Towards Understanding Iqbal in 21st Century” Dr. Masoom said teachers are the force which can pave the way for unity of the nation. He said IIUI has planning of outreach programs which was also endorsed by the senate standing committee on education in its recent visit. He added that IIUI is striving to disseminate the message of tolerance and provide a pure academic milieu to young minds of the nation. He urged that Persian must be given due importance in educational curriculum as Iqbal’s large poetic works were in Persian. He also lauded the interest of the Baluchistan province teachers who for coming Islamabad to participate in programs on Iqbal’s thoughts and teachers’ training.

At the end, certificates were distributed among the workshop participants. The workshop was part of the series on Iqbal’s thoughts which has benefited teachers all across the country; workshops were organized by Iqbal International Institute for Research and Dialogued (IIIRD) of IIUI. DELEGATION OF KING ABDULLAH INTERNATIONAL CENTER FOR SERVICE OF ARABIC TO VISIT IIUI
A 3 member delegation from King Abdullah International Center for the Service of Arabic Language will visit International Islamic University Islamabad IIUI on Monday 3rd February to 7 Feb. The delegation consists of renowned scholars and experts in the field of Arabic language and Literature including Prof Dr. Muhammad Abdul Rehaman Al-Hadlaq Chairman Board of trustees, King Abdullah International Center, Prof. Dr. Salih al-Ghamidi Dean Faculty of Arts, King Saud University and Prof. Dr. Salih al-Shathri from King Khalid Military College Saudi Arab. The delegation will also meet with President IIUI Prof Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh. Members of delegation shall also meet faculty, students, and academia; they will also deliver lectures on seminars in the university. It is expected that the delegation shall also sign a MoU with IIUI to cooperate each other in field of Arabic Language, Translation and Interpretation.

SENATE STANDING COMMITTEE SHOWS SATISFACTION ON IIUI
Senate Standing Committee on Education, Trainings and Standards in Higher Education has shown great satisfaction on the progress of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) and appreciated, students at IIUI being provided an academic milieu free of sectarianism.

Senate Standing Committee headed by its Chairman Senator Abdul Nabi Bangash visited (IIUI) on Monday where it also discussed its agenda. Members of the senate body include Senator Ch. Mohammad Jaffar Iqbal, Senator Ilyas Ahmed Bilour, Senator Engr. Rashid Ahmed Khan, Senator Begum Najma Hameed, Senator Haji Khan, Senator Heman Daas and Senator Rozi Khan Kakar while Secretary Education Ahmed Buksh Lehri Chairman Higher Education Commission Imtiaz Hussain Gillani, Rector IIUI Prof Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, IIUI Vice President Dr. Muhammad Bashir Khan, Director General (AF&P) Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja and Deans and Directors of the university were also present on the occasion.

The committee was briefed by Rector IIUI Dr. Masoom Yasinzai. He made the committee aware about roles, functions, responsibilities, administrative control, scope of work, annual budget, utilization, allocation of funds and future plans being progressed of the university. He apprised the committee that IIUI generates its 70 percent revenue from its own resources while faculties of engineering and technology and basic and applied sciences were rapidly grabbing large number of enrolments and producing young professionals possessing high level professional skills.

The committee decided that recommendations for evolving a system to decrease the attitude of violence and increase the literacy rate would be provided by International Islamic University with a plan that how institutes and academies of the university can help to disseminate tolerance and religious harmony among the masses.

Speaking on the occasion, Abdul Nabi Bangash said “problems of teachers and students were actually problems of nation; we have to spend on education without making our education related matters controversial”. He said if Muslims had built Oxford like educational hubs instead of Taj Mahal, they would have achieved distinct status and commendable circumstances in educational ground. He urged that relation with book and pen must be revived to pave the way for success of Pakistan. Ch. Jaffar Iqbal said deficiencies in the educational system should be critically analyzed because education was the base for the success of nations.

Later, the committee members also visited female campus and central library where they were briefed about the available facilities and performance of different department. Earlier Dr. Massom Yasinzai Welcomed the chairman of standing committee and its members on arriving at campus.

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION ORGANIZES WORKSHOP ON COMMUNICATION SKILLS
The Department of Education (female) of International Islamic University organized a three day interactive workshop on communication skills which was a part of series of workshops on Professional Development Program for University Teachers (PDPUT).

A group of 26 young male and female faculty members attended the workshop. Dr. N.B. Jumani, the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences inaugurated the workshop and emphasized the need of communication skills for the effectiveness of teachers at all levels. Ms. Asma Mansoor, Lecturer Department of English, IIUI guided the faculty members about familiarizing the students with the teacher and a class of sophomore students. She involved the participants in practical exercises for enhancing the listening skills of students. In addition, she briefed the participants about planning, organizing, and evaluating the presentation skills of students at higher education level. Dr. Shaheena Ayub Bhatti, Head, Department of English, National University of Modern Languages enlightened the workshop with her sessions on speaking skills, the use of AV Aids in language, creative and Academic writing in which the participants actively participated.

At the end of the workshop, Dr. Samina Malik, Chairperson Department of Education IIUI thanked all the participants of the workshop and hoped that this would bring remarkable development in the participants about communication skills which are of extreme importance when it comes to establishing a constructive student-teacher rapport and connection.

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON MODERATION CONCLUDES AT IIUI
DIALOGUE, MUTUAL COOPERATION NECESSARY FOR ELIMINATION OF EXTREMISMS: PARTICIPANTS RECOMMEND
Declaring any individual as nonbeliever without analyzing his act in the light of Quran and Sunnah illegitimate, Islam advocates moderation and it never abhorred from establishing mutual relation with non-Muslims.

It is said in the recommendations of the conference on “The role of Moderation in the Stability of the Society” which was organized by Shariah Academy of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) and concluded here at old campus of the university. Conference witnessed 40 research papers presented by the scholars participated from Jordan, Morocco, India, and within the country. The concluding ceremony was presided over by Chairman Islamic Ideology Council Maulana Muhammad Khan Sheerani, renowned Islamic scholars; Shariah Academy staff along with its DG Dr. Tahir Mansoori joined the concluding ceremony.

Recommendations of the conference say that Islamic scholars and intellectuals are responsible to forge unity among ranks of Muslims and they should help for abolishing extremism. It added that prevailing educational system’s objectives must be reviewed and students should be provided knowledge according to contemporary requirements integrated with teachings of Islam. The participants agreed that Religious institutes and Mosques should be used for disseminating true message of peace in the perspective of present hour context. The recommendations elaborated that people must be made aware regarding principles of difference of opinion and there is a dire need for eliminating the attitude of sectarianism from sub-continent. Conference ended on a resolve that attitude of mutual cooperation is a pre-requisite for maintaining peace and stability and dialogue has a vital importance in Islam, it is an ultimate solution for settling the disputes. It was suggested at the end of the conference that ambiguities disseminated against Islam should be dealt with a well devised strategy and Library and centre must be established to promote toleration and moderation while such conferences should be arranged for discussing the challenges face by Muslim Ummah.

On the occasion, addressing, Moulana Khan Muhammad Sherani provoked, religion is among the basic rights, which has no room to use of power and despotic way to move towards particular set of line. “We are highly needed to wipe the hatred, and abhorrent attitude out, and establish a environment of collectivism and politeness in our interaction.” He added. Moulana Sherani endorsed to excel the connected research endeavors and Ijtehad as the Shariah has put forth all the resolutions of the issues. He said, all ways could be combined on Oneness of Allah to make the dream of establishing peaceful society reality.

Ex foreign minister of Morocco Saad ud Din Othemani and General Secretary International Forum for Moderation Marwan Alfaoori emphasized on joint research activities and organising world forums, conferences for the cause to unite the Muslim Ummah in separate addresses. They also stressed on the need to explore the solutions in Shariah to seek Muslim harmony and unity. In his concluding remarks Dr. Tahir Mansoori thanked to all the guests, participants and organizers individually. He termed conference a vital mile stone to help out in policy making for the stability of society. The conference was cooperated by Higher Education Commission and International Forum for Moderation Jordan. At the end of the conference Moulana Sherani presented university crest to participants.

CONFERENCE ON MODERATION CONTINUES, TO CONCLUDE TODAY (THURSDAY)
A three day conference on moderation to explore role of moderation, effects of extremist thoughts in Muslim societies and rights of minorities organized by Shariah Academy of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), continued on second day at Faisal mosque campus of the university.

On the second day of the conference, topic of the first session was “Extremist Thoughts and its Effects on the Society” while it was presided over by Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Al-Khateeb from Faculty of Shariah of Jordan and Dr. Sohail Hassan Deputy Director General Islamic Research Institute (IRI). Dr. Hafiz Hassan Madni from Islamic University Lahore, Dr Asmat ullah from IRI, Dr. Muhamma Aamir Taseen Director Majlis e Ilmi Foundation Pakistan, Muhammad Mushtaq Ahmed From Faculty of Shariah and Law IIUI, Dr. Ikram ul Haq Secretary Council of Islamic Ideology Pakistan, Abdur Rehman Saleh Da’wah Academy, Dr. Hafiz Muhammad Saad ullah from University of Punjab Lahore spoke on various important topics including “Extremist Thoughts and Way of Moderation, Role of Moderation in Societies” and many others.

Parallel session dedicated to women participants of the conference was presided over by Director Female Campus IIUI Dr. Zaitoon Begum while it was addressed by Lecturer University of Gujrat Shazia Kiani, Naseem Razi from Faculty of Shariah and Law, In-charge Da’awah Centre for Women Shagufta Omar, Dr. Mubashir Hussain from IRI, Saadia Tabasum from IIUI, Dr. Hafsa from University of Punjab and Fryal Ambreen from Da’wah Centre for Women IIUI.

“Contrast in Thoughts Regarding Fiqh and Moderation” were discussed in the fourth session which was presided over by Dr. Saad ud Din Othmani, Ex foreign Minister Morocco while addressed by Dr. Muhammad Al-Khlailah, Jordan, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Tufail Hashmi from Hi-Tech university Taxila, Dr. Abdul Haye Abro and Dr. Habib ur Rehman from Shariah Academy.

The fifth and last session of the second day was presided over by Dr. Muhammad Al-Khlailah Secretly General Department of Iftaa, Jordan. The session discussed the topic “Importance of Dialogue and Relationship between Religions and Sects” while it was addressed by Muhammad Ahmed Al-Khateeb, Dr. Dr. Aflah bin Ahmed Khalili, Mufti Muhammad Zahid from Jamia Imdadia Faisalabad Dr. Muhammad Akram and Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Abu Saada.

Concluding ceremony of the conference would take place on January 23 in which Chairman Islamic Ideology Council Maulana Muhammad Khan Sheerani would be the chief guest.

CONFERENCE ON MODERATION STARTS AT IIUI
PARTICIPANTS TERMED MODERATION AS SOLUTION TO PRESENT CHALLENGES
A three day International conference on “Moderation” organized by Shariah Academy of International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI), with the cooperation of Higher Education Commission Pakistan (HEC) and International Forum for Moderation Jordon commenced at Allama Iqbal Auditorium, Faisal Masjid Campus of the university on Tuesday.

The first session of the conference addressed by the State Minister for Religious Affairs Pir Amin ul Hasnaat, while presiding over the inaugural session said “we would have to discourage the attitude of violence and extremism so that we may get united to fight the challenges of hour.” He added that if Muslim societies follow the attitude of moderation and dialogue, Muslims would never face hurdles in practicing Islam. He also said mutual understanding among Muslim states and toleration are the keys for success of Muslim world.

Rector IIUI Prof Dr. Masoom Yasinzai said Islam does not allow the use of force and coercion to convert people into Islam. He added Islam believes in logics, peaceful pursuance for calling people towards its message and Islam does not allow any particular community to enforce its ideas and views on others. “There is no room of fanaticism, extremism and intolerance in Muslim community, no one has the right to be despotic and authoritarian in his opinion.” Rector IIUI added. Dr. Yasinzai said Islamic history is replete with peaceful co-existing with other religions. He further added International Islamic University from the very first day of its inception endorse the culture of tolerance, the scheme of study has been design in such a way that no particular sect is given privilege to the others.

Secretary General International Forum for Moderation, Jordan Marwan Al-fauri said Jordanian people see the message of tolerance in Iqbal’s poetry. He also quoted Iqbal and discussed his message for Muslims and elaborated the efforts being made by International Forum for Moderation Jordon for the cause of Ummah. Al-Fauri further emphasized to organize more conference worldwide, it is necessary to stick with the unity and moderation to avert the negative propaganda against Islam.

The Assistant Grand Mufti of Oman Dr. Kehlan bin Neyhan Al-Kharoosi while thanking Shariah Academy and International Forum for Moderation Jordon for arranging an important conference said moderation and toleration are the basic and salient features of Islam and both can be an ultimate solution to the problems of Muslims. He stressed that Governments of the Muslim countries should devise strategies for introducing comprehensive plans for application of toleration and moderation in their societies. He was of the view that moderation leads a man towards wisdom and knowledge which can be beneficial for mankind; he further added that tolerance and moderation should be practiced by all human beings to make this world a plant of peace.

Cultural Attaché of Saudi Arabia to Pakistan Dr. Haza Al-Ghamdi said moderation and toleration both are the vital contributor in the progress of Ummah, both can be sources of peace which Islam advocates. He said present challenges should not be dealt with aggression but with prudent thoughts and friendly attitude.

In his inaugural note Director General, Shariah Academy IIUI, Dr. Tahir Mansoori welcomed and thanked all the guests and showed great hope, this conference would prove a vital mile stone to set policy line to remove all the labels of extremism and fundamentalism.

On the occasion acting President IIUI Dr. Bashir Khan, Ambassador of Morocco to Pakistan Mustapha Salahdin, Renowned high profile scholars Secretary General Department of Fatwaw Jordan, Dr. Mhammad Al-Khaliyat, Ex Foreign Minister of Morocco Dr. Saadd ud Din Usmani, Editor of Magazine Al-Touheed Dr. Muhammad Tulabi Morocco, head of department of Shariah University of Jordan Dr. Muhammad Khteeb, General Secretary Frogh-e-Rawadari participated in the first day sessions of the conference.

The Ex- Minister of Auqaf Jordan Dr. Abdul Raheem Al-Akoor, Dr. Tahir Mehmood from Federal Urdu University also addressed while Vice Chancellor Ripha International University Rawalpindi Dr. Anees Ahmed, Dr. Riaz Ahmed Hazara University and Dr. Muhammad Arshad Punjab University Lahore and Dr. Shezad Iqbal Sham presented their papers in first day.

The topics of the conference were “The pre-requisites of Stability in the Society”, “Universal Concept of Fiqh”, “The Tradition of Tolerance in Sub-Continent”, The Differences in Fiqh and Moderation in Sects” and Unity Among Sects.

IIUI OFFERS DISTANCE LEARNING EDUCATION PROGRAMS
International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) has decided to launch Open and Distance Learning (ODL) programs in Education, Hadith and its Sciences, Tafseer and Quranic Studies, Urdu and Persian. Keeping in view the significance of ODL, President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh has directed to establish a Directorate of Distance Education and Professor Dr. Nabi Bux Jummani Dean Faculty of Social Sciences would be the director of Distance Education Directorate.

International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) has already significant contribution in ODL as Dawah Academy and Shariah Academy of IIUI have been offering programs/courses through Distance Education since long.

IIUI all set for 9th Convocation

It is perfectly the season of reaping the fruit, the branches of International Islamic university are humble and heavy with the pleasant weight of fruitfulness, heads full of knowledge and hearts brimmed with light of awareness are going to be awarded by IIUI.
Frosty mornings of the capital are being melted with the start of hard work in an institution which is going to have its mega event after years, The International Islamic University while welcoming the new minds with the start of new semester, now a days, keenly focuses on dealing with arrangements and preparations of its 9th convocation.

The meek voices of doves, and the brighter new sun in front of central library is itself welcoming and paying homage to the eagerness of the new faces keen for acquiring knowledge and the mature ripe one who are going to get reward of their struggle moreover commemorating the glory of mega event in University.


President IIUI chaired a meeting to review the arrangements for 9th convocation of the university

Meetings of the steering committees and sub committees have shaped the strategy and teams all the day can be seen busy in their tasks to meet the deadlines. President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, in the most recent meeting, has directed to expedite the efforts for arrangements.

Students are paying frequent visits in busy hours; one would see bright faces who are visiting their institution to get information for their registration and convocation costumes. They are overjoyed for getting their reward form the president of Pakistan and Chancellor of the university Syed Mamnoon Hussain.

The university is almost all set for marking the big day with the start of next month. On February 1 the male students would throw their caps in air and celebrate their academic success. The distinction of IIUI remains followed as a separate day for the daughters of the institutions has been scheduled on February 2.

Count down has been started and soon on February 1 and 2 IIUI bright minds will sparkle with the glow of success and they would be seen on the screens of TV and social media with the President of Pakistan, Rector IIUI and President IIUI.

Shariah Academy, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) going to hold a 3 day International Conference on “Moderation” from January 21-23, 2014, with the cooperation of Higher Education Commission Pakistan (HEC) and Frogh-e-Rawadari Jordon at Allama Iqbal Auditorium, Faisal Masjid Campus of the university.

This International Conference is being organized in pursuance of the directive of President IIUI, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh. Renowned high profile scholars including Secretary General Department of Fatwaw Jordan, Dr. Mhammad Al-Khaliyat, Grand Mufti of Oman Ahmed bin Hamed Al-Khalili, Dr. Saadd ud Din Usmani from Morocco, Editor of Magazine Al-Touheed Dr. Muhammad Tulabi Morocco, head of department of Shariah University of Jordan Dr. Muhammad Khteeb, General Secretary Frogh-e-Rawadari Marwan Alfaoori will participate in the conference.

IIUI MULLING OVER CONDUCTING ADMISSION TESTS IN PROVINCES, SAYS DR. AL-DRAIWEESH
President International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh has said that university is mulling over conducting its admission tests on province basis to facilitate the students of the far flung areas.

He expressed these views while addressing the concluding ceremony of 21st “young writers’ Training Program” organized by Da’wah Academy of university. Deputy Director General Da’wah Academy Dr. Imtiaz Zafar, staff of academy and participants of the training program also attended the ceremony. Participants from KP, Sindh and Punjab were part of the aforesaid program which was coordinated and supervised by In-charge Department of Children Literature Mr. Zubair Tariq and Amir Hassan.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh stressed upon the need for creating a balanced course integrated with teachings of Islam which may provide platform to refrain the youth and children from violence. President IIUI said the training program for young writers would be launched now twice in a year. He added that educational system should not be biased and it should equally address male and females, he also urged for making a comprehensive strategy for distance learning programs while pointing out the problems of knowledge seekers belonging to far flung areas. President IIUI lauded the efforts of the Da’wah academy and said “such programs not only equip participants with useful skills but also provide valuable guidelines to academy that how our youth should be educated in the lights of Islam”.

Dr. Imtiaz Zafar also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the importance of course. At the end, certificates of the completion of training program were distributed among the participants.

IIUI PRESIDENT ANNOUNCES UMRAH REWARD, CASH PRIZES FOR SENIOR EMPLOYEES
President International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh has announced Umrah tickets for three most senior mess employees of the university while those mess employees who have been serving for more the 25 years would be rewarded with 5 thousand rupees each.

Dr. Al Draiweesh made this announcement while addressing on the occasion of his visit to the male hostels of new campus at the invitation of University Staff Welfare Association (USWA). Vice President (Academics) Dr. Muhammad Bashir Khan, Director General (AF&P) Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja, Director Human Resources Muhammad Tabraiz Aslam, Director Finance Khurshid Alam, President USWA Chaudhry Muhammad Nazir and various other officers of the university were also present on the occasion.

President IIUI announced that a special committee in the chairmanship of Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja would review the problems of hostel employees and would solve all the issues according to the guidelines of Higher Education Commission. He also added that promotion duration for the employees of hostels would be 5 years. He expressed grief on the sad demise of two of the employees Ansar Shah and Ilyas who died during last week and prayed for their best places in Jannah. Dr. Al-Draiweesh urged the employees to present themselves as role model while stressing upon the unique role of IIUI in Muslim Ummah. He also emphasized upon forging unity among the ranks of Muslims. Dr. Al-Draiweesh also lauded the services of USWA and Ch. Nazir while terming him as the well wisher of the university employees.

Earlier, Additional Secretary USWA Muhammad Shaukat presented the demands and problems of the employees and praised the cooperation of President IIUI.

“Muhammad (peace be on him) and the West” number of quarterly Insights wins National Sirah Award
Ministry of Religious Affairs, Government of Pakistan held a National Competition for the journals focusing on Sirah for the year 1435/2014. The Sirah scholars and experts serving as the referees as well as on the National Sirah Committee of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, after thorough investigations have selected the “Muhammad (peace be on him) and the West” number, vol. 2, no. 4, of the quarterly Insights for National Sirah Award 1435/2014. Special number of Insights was selected for the Award in a special ceremony on the occasion of National Sirah Conference at the Presidency, on Rabi’ al-Awwal12, 1435/January 14, 2014. The number of the quarterly Insights includes four research papers selected via due international blind peer-reviewing process and two Book reviews on Sirah works, by the renowned Islamic Scholars and Sirah experts from around the world. Abdur Rehman Saleh is the editor of the aforesaid award winning special number.

This Special issue of the quarterly Insights shows and analyses how the beloved of Allah (SWT) as well as our beloved Muhammad (peace be on him) has been treated in the West from 1st/7th to 15th/21th century. It also discusses the issue of developing a proper Muslim response to the ongoing western onslaught against the Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him), Islam and Muslims. RELIGIOUS AFFAIRS MINISTER, PRESIDENT IIUI DISCUSS ROLE OF VARSITIES FOR PEACE
Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Muhammad Yousaf called on President International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh in Faisal Mosque Campus of the university. Matters pertaining to religious education and role of educational institutions in the society for maintaining peace and stability in the society were discussed in the meeting.

Sardar Yousaf said IIUI is playing vital role for interfaith harmony and university is center of focus for the countries of Ummah. He added ministry of religious affairs would provide full support to IIUI in future for arranging conferences on interfaith harmony and religious topics. Dr. Al-Draiweesh said educational institutions play significant role to curb the challenge of violence and IIUI is committed for the cause by nurturing the young minds while providing quality education integrated with teachings of Islam. He reiterated his resolve that IIUI would keep playing its role for creating a milieu of peace in the country. A university crest was also presented by the President IIUI to the Federal Minister for Religious Affairs at the end of the meeting.

 

YOUNG WRITERS VISIT IIUI
A delegation of the participants of the 21st “youth writers’ Training Program” organized by Da’wah Academy of International Islamic University Islamabad visited new campus of the university on Thursday. Participants from KP, Sindh and Punjab are part of the aforesaid program.

Participants were briefed by Additional Director (Academics) Sayyed Hassan Aftab about the objectives, future plans and procedure of admission in the university. In-charge Department of Children Literature Mr. Zubair Tariq and coordinator of the course Amir Hassan were also present on the occasion.

Participants showed keen interest in the process of admission in the university and paid thanks to DAWAH Academy and IIUI for arranging such a useful program for them.

 

THAI AMBASSADOR CALLS ON RECTOR, PRESIDENT IIUI
Thai Ambassador Tomwit Jarnson visited International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) on Wednesday and met with Rector, IIUI, Dr. Masoom Yasinzai and President IIUI, Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh. Matters of mutual interest were discussed during the meetings.

Thai Ambassador and Rector IIUI agreed to extend cooperation between IIUI and Thai educational institutions. Dr. Masoom said Thai students at IIUI will be provided maximum possible support.

Later, the Ambassador also called on Dr. Al-Draiweesh where matter of exchange delegations of students and faculty members between IIUI and Thai educational institutions was discussed while Rector IIUI was also present on the occasion. President IIUI said university is serving the whole world and the administration of IIUI always strives to extend cooperation to all countries of the world. IIUI TO HOLD CONVOCATION ON FEBRUARY 1-2
PRESIDENT IIUI REVIEWS ARRANGEMENTS FOR 9TH CONVOCATION
A meeting to review the preparations for 9th convocation of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) chaired by its President Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh was held at new campus of the university. The convocation of IIUI will be held on February 1-2 for male and female students separately.

Meeting was attended by the heads of various committees formed for the preparations of convocation, directors and relevant officials of the university. Dr. Al-Draiweesh directed that efforts should be expedited to make the mega event of university successful. He reviewed the progress reports presented by the different committees of the convocation. He urged the participants of meeting to keep cooperating with each other and finish their tasks within the deadlines given to them.

University has already published the schedule of the convocation which will be held at Jinnah Convention Centre Islamabad on February 1-2. Students can avail robes/caps and invitation cards on January 29-30 from the respective examination branch IIUI new campus Sector H-10 Islamabad. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COURSES NECESSARY FOR ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT: DR. AL-DRAIWEESH
A certificate distribution ceremony of a month long professional development training course organized by Institute for Professional Development (IPD) of International Islamic University (IIUI) was held at central library of the university on Tuesday.

The ceremony was attended by President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, Vice President Academics Dr. Muhammad Bashir Khan, Director General (AF&P) Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja, Director IPD Dr. Saeed ul Hassan Chishti, Training Management Specialist IPD Saneeha Khalid, Directors of university and participants of course from scale 16 to 19 also attended the ceremony.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh, speaking on the occasion said “it is an omen of unity at IIUI that professionals belonging to different departments of the university joined the course”. He added that such courses provide opportunities to learn from experience of each other and also help to address the organizational challenges. President IIUI maintained that frequency of professional development courses should be increased. He said officers should acquire knowledge of contemporary changes and join such training programs. He hoped that more IIUI officials would be provided opportunity to join professional development courses in short intervals.

Dr. Saeed, in his welcome note explained that course was aimed at creating highest standards in advanced research, interactive communication and building a community to set new patterns for the betterment of IIUI. He vowed IPD would remain a higher seat for providing enormous opportunities for professional development and Arabic language would be included in future programs for Quranic understanding.

Saneeha Khalid greeted the participants and apprised about the benefits and objectives of the course. She hoped the methodology learnt by participants would be applied in daily practice and they would remain a source of guidance for all the colleagues. She hoped the course would pave the way for creating a milieu of cooperation at IIUI and all the professionals would utilize their leadership abilities by applying team building skills.

Earlier, Additional Director Academics Nisar Bajwa and Deputy Director Finance Nuzhat Zareen expressed their views while representing the male and female participants. “The course allowed to explore and establish a paradigm of better communication and utilize our energies for the progress of organization” Bajwa said. Nuzhat Zareen appreciated the efforts of trainers and suggested that such courses should be exclusive and maximum number of female employees should be included.

The ceremony was winded up with distribution of course completion certificates among the participants by President IIUI.

IIUI ACKNOWLEDGES SERVICES OF DR.MUMTAZ
President International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh hosted a farewell dinner in honor of Vice President (Academic) IIUI Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed on reliving his responsibilities as Vice President academics.

Dinner was attended by Rector IIUI Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, Ex Vice Chancellor Gomal University D.I. Khan Dr. Mansoor Ahmed, Dr. Zafar Ishaq Ansari, Vice President (Acad) Dr. Muhammad Bashir Khan, Director General Ghulzar Ahmed Khawja, Deans and Directors of University.

In his address Dr. Masoom praised the personality and services of Dr. Mumtaz and hoped to seek the guidance for the betterment of University’s academic matters. He also invoked Dr. Mumtaz continue to facilitate with his consultancy to strengthen the curriculum of University. Rector also wished his best wished for prosperous future of Dr. Mumtaz. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Al-Draiweesh said Dr. Mumtaz always gave priority to the university interest, steps taken by him reflects his enormous vision and foresight. While paying tribute to his services, President IIUI said “the work experience with Dr. Mumtaz was very pleasant and source of learning and time spent with him is a precious asset of his life, Dr. Mumtaz is a great academician and administrator and a man of high character”. President also acknowledged and appreciated his services for the uplifting of academic activities and wished his kind guidance would be available for University. Dr. Al-Draiweesh also welcomed new VP Dr. Muhammad Bashir on assuming his responsibilities and hoped Dr. Bashir would perform his duties with great care and be a course of inspiration in academia.

On the occasion, Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed thanked President on organizing farewell dinner in honor of him. He said the time spent in IIUI is memorable asset, would not be excluded all the time. He assured his services would be available for university as well. It is pertinent to mention here that Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad would keep working as Executive Director Iqbal International Institute for Research and Dialogue of the university.

NO PLACE FOR SECTARIANISM IN ISLAM: PRESIDENT IIUI
Sectarianism and terrorism have no place in Islam; It teaches tolerance, peace and leniency to fellowmen while issuing Fatwas on the bases of sectarian differences is a negative attitude.

These views were expressed by President International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) Prof. Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, while addressing on the occasion of concluding ceremony of 58th Teachers Training Course for teachers of Mansehra and Torgarh Districts of KP, organized by Dawah Academy IIUI. The Deputy Director General Dawah Academy, Dr. Imtiaz Zafar, officials of Academy and participants were also present in the ceremony. 35 participants participated in the week long workshop.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh termed dissemination of knowledge as Jihad while saying teacher are the optimum community of any society, they play vital role in uplifting the society. He advised Dawah staff to conduct same courses in far flung areas of KP to eliminate the pessimistic thoughts of society while hoping it would also help to abolish the sense of deprivation among the people of far flung areas. He also called teachers the real servants of society and Islam. President IIUI was of the view that those who were practicing violence were actually violating Islamic teachings while he said those who were preaching Islam and disseminating knowledge without any biasness and extremism, were the actual servers of Islam. Dr. Al-Draiweesh assured every possible cooperation for organizing such courses and education to participants at IIUI. He also appreciated the services of Dawah Academy as the academy preaching Islam in true meanings.

Earlier, Dr. Imtiaz Zafar in his address said, teachers have very unique role; have the responsibility to fabricate the generations on true sense. He added, Dawah Academy offering courses comprising different aspects of Islam for professionals belonging to all walks of life. He also thanked to President IIUI on his cooperation and vowed to follow the instructions pertaining to organize such courses.

The course coordinator Zahir ud Din Behram presented the core points and report of the course in detail and thanked the participants for cooperation during the course. Fazal Karim, while representing the participants of the course said Dawah Academy is nurturing minds in the light of Islamic teachings and its exemplary attribute is negation of sectarianism. He said institutions like Dawah Academy can create a milieu of unity and also can help to lessen the effects of extremism. He added that “sectarianism is the leading cause in the way of our progress, we have to expedite our efforts to disseminate moderation among Muslim societies.” He also vowed on the behalf of the participants to be a hand of those who are striving hard for the sake of stability and peace in the country.

IQBAL’S THOUGHTS REVISITED IN A WORKSHOP AT IIUI
International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), with the start of New Year, explored thoughts of Allama Iqbal in a three-day workshop organized by Iqbal International Institute for Research and Dialogue (IIIRD) of the university which concluded with a resolve that message and thoughts of Iqbal can be a solution to solve core problems of the time including terrorism and stability in the country.

The workshop was a part of a series on exploring the message of Iqbal; it was organized for the teachers of colleges from Khyber Pakhtunkhaw. The concluding ceremony of the workshop was attended by President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, Director General (AF&P) Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja, Executive Director IIIRD Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed, Director IIIRD Talib Hussain Sial and participants of the workshop.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Al-Draiweesh said “Allama Iqbal’s thoughts were for revival of the prestige of Muslims, we have to act upon his message which reflects the teachings of Islam”. He added that such constructive dialogue provides a base to solve the problems by utilizing the knowledge granted by our leaders in the light of Quran and Sunnah. He stressed that our children must be nurtured in an environment of moderation which would help us to get rid of the menace of terrorism. President IIUI urged for forging unity among the ranks of Ummah while saying “so called instability hype has actually nothing to do with Islam, it is created only on the basis of political aims of enemies, and we would have to devise strategies to cope with challenges”. He also lauded Dr. Mumtaz’s services for university.

Dr. Mumtaz said region of KP is known for war but the people of the province has no doubt exemplary role for maintaining peace in the country especially during this decade they have been fighting terrorism with great commitment. He urged that “we have to fight the war of time in the light of the teachings and thoughts of Iqbal.” He also appreciated the role of Dr. Al-Draiweesh for his active participation for development of Ummah and stressed that his books written on the contemporary issues of Ummah should be translated in Urdu. Dr. Mumtaz assured of cooperation to all the colleges of KP for arranging such constructive activities and said IIUI would keep striving for providing quality education to masses.

Participants while expressing their views said workshop was a great source of exploring the wisdom of Allama Iqbal. “It is our responsibility to introduce youth with our heroes and urge them to refrain from violence, this would pave way for development of all Muslim countries” said a participant, Khalid Sohail, while expressing his views.

At the end, certificates were distributed among the participants of the workshop by President IIUI.

IIUI DELEGATION VISITS IMAM MUHAMMAD BIN SAUD UNIVERSITY OF SAUDI ARABIA
A 6-member delegation of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) headed by Deputy Dean Faculty of Usuluddin Dr. Haroon ur Rasheed visited Imam Muhammad Bin Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, met the Dean of the Faculty of Usuluddin, Imam Muhammad Bin Saud University Professor Dr Abdul Aziz Bin Abdullah Al Hulayyil in his office and discussed the bilateral issues.

The delegation members include Dr. Zaid Bin Ahmad Al Ablan, Head Department of Aqeedah, Dr. Muhammad Akram, Head Department of Comparative Religion, Dr. Muhammad Arif, Assistant Professor Department of Aqeedah, Abdul Wahab Jan, Lecturer Department of Aqeedah and Abdul Basit Qureshi, Lecturer Department of Aqeedah.

On the occasion, Mutual cooperation in holding joint seminars, conferences, short term Arabic Language training programs for Pakistani teachers and visits of the teachers of the both universities were discussed. Exchange of visiting faculty members particularly for the Department of Aqeedah and Department of Comparative Religion were also discussed.

Later, The delegation also met with the Head of the Centre of Al ijaz Al ilmi Dr Yahya Bin Salih Al Tooyan, The Head of the Chair of King Abdullah for Al Qura’n Al Kareem Professor Dr. Ibrahim Bin Saeed Al Dosari and with the Head of Quality assurance in the Scheme of Studies Dr. Adil Bin Muhammad Bin Abdul Aziz.

 

DR. MUHAMMAD BASHIR KHAN ASSUMES DUTIES AS VP ACADEMICS
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Bashir Khan has been appointed as Vice President (Academics) International Islamic University IIUI while he will also continue his services as Dean Faculty of Management Sciences. President IIU Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh, with the consent of Rector IIU Dr. Masoom Yasinzai has approved the aforesaid appointment.

Dr. Bashir Khan joined IIUI in 2007 and owns the experience of 34 years in teaching, research and administration while he passed his PhD from Graduate School, University of Santo Tomos, Manila (Philippines) with 94% marks and got “Mega-Cum-Laude” award. He has completed his master degrees from UK, USA and Gomal University. Rector IIUI Dr. Masoom Yasinzai and President IIUI have welcomed his appointment as VP IIUI and hoped Dr. Bashir Khan would utilize his abilities and energies for development and prosperity of university.

 

IIUI HOLDS “BEST DRIVER OF THE YEAR AWARD” CEREMONY
Transport Unit of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) organized a “Best Driver of the Year” ceremony to encourage the drivers where two drivers, Mumtaz Hussain and Inam Gul, separately, from LTV and HTV categories, were awarded with 10 thousand cash prizes each, certificate of appreciation and 1 year advance increment while Muhammad Rashid, in recognition of his services, was awarded with a special gift on the behalf of President IIUI Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh.

The ceremony was attended by Executive Director Iqbal International Institute for Research and Dialogue Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed as chief guest, Director AF&P Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja, Director Administration Raja Khalid Mahmood, Director HR Tabraiz Aslam and Additional Director Transport Saif ur Rehman who was also chief organizer, large number university officials and drivers also attended the ceremony.

Dr. Mumtaz’s address was a source of smiles on the faces of the participants as he delivered a witty speech which also had wisdom and a glimpse of the problems faced by drivers. “Drivers are the most significant part of the university and a project for their career planning should be initiated in addition with arrangement of special in-service trainings and courses” he said. He urged that drivers who were working for years and not regularized should be taken as regular employees. He mentioned funny quotations written behind the vehicles and termed drivers as a life sign in the society.

Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja, in his address said “our drivers are wheel of IIUI, a problem in the transport unit affects whole university”. He suggested that number of the drivers for the next year award should be increased from two to four. He lauded the services of IIUI drivers while vowing that solution of their problems would be remain top priority of IIUI administration.

Raja Khalid, who is also member of the committee which decides the nominee of the best driver apprised about the nominee process which includes general behaviour of the driver, maintenance of vehicle, minimum ratio of accident and attribute of discipline. He also presented legitimate demands of the drivers and urged the transport unit to remain committed for the development of IIUI.

Earlier, Saif ur Rehman gave a detailed introduction of the transport unit and elaborated the work nature of the unit within available resource. He also termed transport unit as a back bone of the university.

Drivers Mumtaz Hussain, Inam Gul and Muhammad Rashid were awarded with cash prizes, certificates and gifts by Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed at the end of the ceremony. All three drivers paid thanks to IIUI administration for acknowledging their services.

PRESIDENT IIUI, RECTOR NUST DISCUSS ISSUES OF MUTUAL INTEREST
International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) and National University of Science and Technology (NUST) have agreed to sign an MoU for mutual cooperation in near future. It was decided during a meeting between President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh and Rector NUST Engr. Muhammad Asghar at NUST.

During the meeting, Dr. Al-Draiweesh said progress in science and technology is a prerequisite for the development of a nation and IIUI is committed to strengthen its bilateral educational ties with all the universities. He reiterated his resolve that IIUI would remain committed to provide high quality education to the students of Muslim Ummah.

Engr. Muhammad Asghar said IIUI is playing vital role in promotion of quality education. He hoped that under the leadership of Dr. Al-Draiweesh, university would flourish more and soon it would make its place in top educational institutions of the world. Shields were exchanged from the both sides on the end of the meeting.
