PRESIDENT IIUI, RECTOR NUST DISCUSS ISSUES OF MUTUAL INTEREST
International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) and National University of Science and Technology (NUST) have agreed to sign an MoU for mutual cooperation in near future. It was decided during a meeting between President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh and Rector NUST Engr. Muhammad Asghar at NUST.

During the meeting, Dr. Al-Draiweesh said progress in science and technology is a prerequisite for the development of a nation and IIUI is committed to strengthen its bilateral educational ties with all the universities. He reiterated his resolve that IIUI would remain committed to provide high quality education to the students of Muslim Ummah.

Engr. Muhammad Asghar said IIUI is playing vital role in promotion of quality education. He hoped that under the leadership of Dr. Al-Draiweesh, university would flourish more and soon it would make its place in top educational institutions of the world. Shields were exchanged from the both sides on the end of the meeting.

 

 

 

PRESIDENT IIUI REVIEWS CULTURAL WEEK ARRANGEMENTS
A meeting to review the arrangements of 26th Cultural Week of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) was held under the chairmanship of the President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh. President IIUI directed that preparations should be expedited to make the mega event successful and all. He said that Cultural Week of International Islamic University owns an international recognition in which male and female students all across the world present their cultures. President IIUI termed cultural week a recognition of IIUI and hoped that all the arrangements would be made excellently by all the committees formed for cultural week preparations. Meeting was attended by heads of various committees formed for arrangements of Cultural Week 2014.

TRUE FOLLOWERS OF QURAN’S TEACHINGS REAL SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE: PRESIDENT IIUI
President international Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) Dr. Ahmed Yousif Draiweesh, in sermon at Faisal Mosque on Friday has said true followers of Quran’s teachings are the real successful people in world and eternal life.

The sermon was on the topic “People Rewarded by Allah” and it was delivered in the light of verses 25 to 29 of Surah Baqrah of Holy Quran. Dr. Al-Draiweesh discussed the topics addressed in the aforesaid verses which include Rizq, God’s promise with its men, men and women owning virtue and various others.

He said by acting upon the teachings of Quran and Sunnah we can get eternal reward from Allah here and after. He said we should follow the teachings given by Allah and his Prophet (PBUH) as it’s the knowledge which reveals the real secrets of life. He urged that we should refrain from creating unrest in society while saying it is the attitude which is not allowed in Islam. He was of the view that moderation is necessary in our life which must be reflected in all our deeds as it does not let the person fall in negative attitudes. He also stressed upon exploring the secrets of life in the light of Quran and Sunnah and nurturing the minds of children according to the teachings of Quran. At the end of the sermon, President IIUI prayed for prosperity and progress of Pakistan and Ummah.

DR. AL-DRAIWEESH’S ADDRESS AT AIOU
IIUI TO LAUNCH CENTRE FOR RESEARCH ON SCIENTIFIC ASPECTS OF QURAN, SUNNAH
Every word of Quran is a miracle and the holy book is an immense source of eternal success, International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) would soon commence work on a centre for research on scientific aspects of Quran and Sunnah which would be initiated with the cooperation of Imam Muhammad Ibn e Saud University of Saudi Arabia.

This was said by President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh being chief guest during a lecture on “Quran and Science” held at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU). Key speaker of the lecture, Judge Federal Shariat Court Justice Shehzado Shaikh, Vice Chancellor AIOU Nazir Ahmed Sangi and prominent scholars were also present in the lecture.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh said Quran must be read in the light of Sunnah and IIUI would keep striving for work on this important subject. He also invited Justice Shehzado Sheikh to head the centre for research on scientific aspects of Quran and Sunnah, at IIUI. He urged the participants to work for the cause of promoting knowledge while terming it an ultimate source of maintaining a welfare and peaceful society.

Justice Shaikh said Quran is complete knowledge which reveals the secrets of science and various other subjects but for its proper comprehension we must utilize the ability of observation. He said Islam is the pioneer of scientific research and now Muslims should uphold the past prestige of their religion by working for revealing the secrets of universe in the light of Quran. He also discussed Big Bang theory and Expanding theory of universe in detail.

Nazir Sangi said Quran is the text which reveals realities and we should observe new advancements in the light of Holy book which would open new horizons for eternal success. He also paid thanks to President IIUI for providing Arabic language books to AIOU while saying that mutual cooperation among both universities would help in raising the standards of higher education.

IIUI PAYS TRIBUTE TO FOUNDER OF NATION, HOLDS SEMINAR ON “QUAID’S VISION”
Progress and prosperity of the Pakistan depends on implementing the Quaid’s vision in the society; we need to empower youth to make the way forward to achieve the destination of sovereign respected nation. A seminar paid profound tribute to the founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah with the title of “Vision of Quaid” organized by the Iqbal International Institute of Research and Dialogue, International Islamic University Islamabad and Muslim Research Institute. Federal Minister for Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan Affairs Ch. Barjees Tahir was chief guest, while President IIUI Prof Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al- Draiweesh presided over the seminar.

The Vice President IIUI and Executive Director IIIRD Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed and Chairman Muslim Research Institute Sultan Ahmed Ali including prominent scholars, politicians also attended the seminar. Ch. Barjees Tahir said today we feel Pakistanis are far behind that vision of Quaid. “Unless we put Pakistan on the true lines of Quaid’s teachings, the dream of successful nation will not come true” he said. Federal Minister added, no nation can get progress with having corruption in its system, so we also in acute need to get rid from the menace of corruption form Pakistan.

In his address President IIUI Dr. Al-Draiweesh called the thoughts of Quaid are in accordance with the teachings of Islam. He termed Muhammad Ali Jinnah as a leader of Muslim Ummah who fought for creation of a state which is truly based on Islam. Dr. Al-Draiweesh said Muhammad Ali Jinnah also regarded and respected in Arab world as well in Pakistan. He further said Quaid was versatile personality, symbol of courage, honesty and confidence, will be alive through centuries.

The guest speaker Akram Zaki paid tribute to Quaid saying that Muhammad Ali was a man of law, who always abided by the law and taught the lesson to obey the law. “Quaid fought the battle of freedom of Muslims with power of arguments and law, he also wanted rule of law and justice in the society”, he added. Zaki went on a prosperity of the country is based on social justice as the Quaid-e-Azam dreamed an ideal Islamic society. On the occasion Sultan Ahmed Ali threw light on the teachings of Quaid-e-Azam and thanked to all the participants of the seminar. He said the thoughts of Quaid-e-Azam are the sublime source to make the country an ideal state of the world. In the seminar Dr. Mumtaz, Ex. Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan Kanwar Dilshad, Asif Rizvi, Dr. Noor Fatima, Abdul Baqi and other renowned scholars also shared their views on the personality, life, work and struggle of freedom for Pakistan.

BIBT HOLDS WORKSHOP ON LIFE SAVING DRUGS
A two day workshop on the title “Life Saving Drugs” organized by the students of Bio Informatics and Bio Technology -4 (Female) International Islamic University Islamabad. The workshop was attended by Director Female Campus Dr. Zaitoon Begum, Dean FBAS Dr. Sher, HoD BIBT Female Dr. Naveeda Riaz, faculty and students of BIBT. The purpose of the workshop was to apply and test the knowledge practically and train the students in the field of “Thin Layer Chronology, Column Chromatography, Colony Morphology, Agar & Plating, Autoclave and Antibiotic”. Dr. Sher appreciated students’ effort over successfully producing Penicillin.

FEMALE CAMPUS HOLDS CERTIFICATES AWARD CEREMONY
The management of International Women Conference Female Campus of International Islamic University Islamabad organized certificates and shields distribution ceremony among the organizers. Vice President IIUI Prof Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed was chief guest of the ceremony. While President Muslim Women Union Dr. Kuosar Firdos, Mrs. Sumaya Raheel Qazi, Mrs. Shamim Shaal, Director Female Campus Dr. Zaitoon Begum were the guest of honor of the occasion.

While addressing the ceremony Dr. Mumtaz said the organizing International Women Conference is biggest achievement to gather 52 renowned women activists from 26 countries of the world. He termed this success a memorable mile stone in the history of the university. He said the conference portrayed true picture of women, also cleared the misconceptions and misinterpretations about Islamic point of view regarding women rights and freedom. Dr. Mumtaz added, the conference also broke the hegemony of so called liberal NGOs pertaining to women rights and raised very clear message that Islam is the only true protector of women rights and Muslim woman now aware about her rights. He stressed on the need to organize such more conferences on national level as well.

Dr. Kousar said woman has very vital role in the development of the society that need to put on right direction. She emphasized to bridge the gap between stereotype and modernity. She also termed the Islamic model a survival, which is not only for Muslim but women of the world. Sumaya Raheel and Dr. Zaitoon also shared their views regarding the success of the conference and also appreciated the efforts and struggles of all the organizers. In her vote of thanks In-Charge Dawah Centre for Women Shagufta Umar paid high gratitude to all the guests and organizers.

FMS; DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT ORGANIZES SEMINAR
The Department of Management Faculty of Management Sciences International Islamic University Islamabad organized a seminar with the title “Looking for Job; Why not Create One-Entrepreneurial Support Network”. President Islamabad Chamber of Commerce Mr. Shahban Khalid, CEO Nayatel, Mr. Wahaj ur Siraj, Ex DG Technology Centre NUST Mr. Mansoor Malik, Executive Director SECP Mr. Nazir Shaheen were the resource persons. They delivered profound lectures over the topic and emphasized on creation of jobs by starting new ventures and establishment of Business Incubation Centre at IIUI. Dr. Bashir Khan thanked all the guests and appreciated the step taken by the Department of Management.

PRESIDENT IIUI VISITS DAWAH ACADEMY
President, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) visited Dawah Academy. Dr. Ahmad Yousif met with the heads of different departments of Academy. President IIU directed, different programmes of distance learning education offered by Dawah Academy should be accordance with the contemporary requirements with high effectiveness.

He stressed upon the need to enhance the capacity of the programmes, while keeping in mind the interest of people in courses offered by Dawah Academy. President IIU also advised officials to start new courses especially for women and children.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh also directed the heads that they should make assure to organize seminars, workshops and lectures on national and international level.

JUDGES JUDGE THE BOOK OF DR. MUNIR, TERM IT AS ‘MAGNUM OPUS’
Launching ceremony of book titled “ Precedent in Pakistani Law” authored by Dr. Muhammad Munir Chairman Department of Law of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) was held at new campus of IIUI which was presided over by Justice (R) Shakirullah Jan, President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh was the guest of honour.

It was also attended by Justice( R) Ali Nawaz Chohan, Barrister Yousaf Khosa, Vice President (Academics) Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed, Deputy Dean Shariah and Law Tahir Hakeem and a large number of personalities from legal fraternity.

Justice Shakirullah Jan termed Dr. Munir’s book as ‘Magnum Opus’ while calling it a useful addition for guidance in judicial system of Pakistan. He said the author has elaborated judicial matters in an excellent way with examples of Muslim history happenings related to the topic. Shakir ullah Jan said precedents are important in legal system and it was a dire need of such book on the topic.

Being guest of honour, Dr. Al-Draiweesh said Dr. Munir is an enormous asset of IIUI who is equally competent in Arabic as he is in Urdu and English. He said book must be translated in Urdu and English as it is written on such an important topic which addressed complex issues in a simple way.

Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed lauded the services of Dr. Munir and said IIUI is proud of his works and hoped the book would help not only legal fraternity to take guidance in judicial matters but a layman would also get benefit from it.

Dr. Chuhan, while lauding the book of Dr. Munir said “we require clarity in legal issues in the light of precedents and the author comprehensively worked on the topic”. He urged that decision process of the cases must be expedited to make the judiciary system smoother. He stressed upon the students to build their personalities like Ibn e Rushd and other renowned Muslim figures. He added that Islamic states should work for scholarships programs to utilize the potential of Muslim youth.

“Dr. Munir wrote an excellent, precise and concise book which discussed decisions of the benches and remarks of judges while recording a judgment, it’s a precious addition on the topic,” said Barrister Khosa. He added that Dr. Munir’s book was an important addition in the topic of jurisdiction and Islamic history examples with cohesion to the contemporary legal issues have made it a successful comprehensive effort. Dr. Munir, in his vote of thanks acknowledged the support of his teachers, colleagues, IIUI administration and shared experiences he faced while narrating the book. He urged the students present in the ceremony to remain devoted for promotion of education and avoid arrogance on success.

Dr. Munir’s book discussed evolution of doctrine of precedents in the sub-continent and introduction to judicial system of Pakistan and various others important legal topics. At the end Dr. Ahmad Yousif distributed certificates among the participants of the workshop.

URDU DEPARTMENT (FEMALE) HOLDS WORKSHOP ON CAREER COUNSELING
A two day workshop organized by Department of Urdu (Female) International Islamic University Islamabad with the title “Career Counselling and Personal Grooming” to make the students aware about job market, demand and opportunities while studying Urdu literature. The president IIUI Prof, Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh was chief guest in concluding ceremony. Director Capacity Building USAID Ubaid Ullah, Ms. Nudhret Mufti, Ms Rafia Khan were the resource persons of the workshop. While the concluding ceremony was also attended by the DG(AF&P) Ghulzar Ahmed Khawja, Dean Faculty of Language and Literature Dr. Munawar Iqbal Gondal, HoD Urdu (Male) Dr. Tayeb Muneer.

Addressing the students on concluding day Dr. Al-Draiweesh appreciated the efforts and said the capacity of Urdu department would be enhanced to serve the Urdu. He said Urdu is also touching the level of International universality as the large number of Urdu speakers can be found in all the corners of the world. Dr. Al-Draiweesh advised the department to plan an international conference on Urdu Arabic relations. He said all possible support would be given for this purpose. He said both languages have very close relation, a big amount of vocabulary used in Urdu taken from Arabic. Chairperson Department of Urdu (Female) Dr. Najeebah Arif in her vote of thanks, paid profound gratitude to worthy President IIUI, guests and resource persons and participants. Dr. Sabahat Mushtaq was the coordinator of the workshop. In the workshop students were made aware about preparation of jobs’ interviews, professional development and grooming.

DEPUTY PM MAURITIUS CALLS ON DR. AL-DRAIWEESH
Deputy Prime Minister Mauritius Dr. Ahmed Rashid BeebeeJaun visited Faisal Mosque and called on Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh. Issues of mutual interest were discussed during the meeting.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh said that IIUI is committed to extend bilateral education ties with maximum countries of the world and cooperation in the field of education between IIUI and Mauritius would pave the way towards achieving the objective of providing quality education to the students of Muslim countries. He also briefed Dr. Ahmed Rashid about the cultural diversity at IIUI and apprised him about the future vision of the university.

Dr. Ahmed Rashid assured that Mauritius would provide all possible cooperation to IIUI in the field of education and vowed that exchange of faculties between his country’s educational institutions and IIUI would be discussed with the educational experts in his country. A university crest was also presented to Deputy Prime Minister Mauritius by the President IIUI.

IIUI, HHRD SIGN MOU ON PROMOTING ISLAMIC MICRO FINANCING
Shariah Advisory Cell, School of Islamic Banking & Finance of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) and Helping Hand for Relief and Development have signed an MoU for cooperation in the regard of strengthening the Islamic Micro financing sector in Pakistan.

The MoU was signed on Thursday morning at the office of the President IIUI, Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh. Country Head of HHRD Fazal ur Rehman, Program Head HHRD Syed Muhammad Arshad, Gulzar Ahmad Khwaja, Director General (AF&P), Director General Shariah Academy Dr. Tahir Mansoori and Assistant Professor IIIE Dr. Attiquzzafar Khan were also present on the occasion. Dr. Al-Draiweesh and Fazal ul Rehman signed the MoU on the behalf of IIUI and HHRD respectively.

Both IIUI and HHRD agreed that under their ESAR Microfinance program an ‘ Islamic Microfinance Resource Centre ‘ would be established which would work for publications and networking for promotion of Islamic Microfinance and internship programs for new professionals in the field of Islamic Banking and Finance.

IIUI; FACULTY OF ARABIC CELEBRATES ARABIC LANGUAGE DAY
Faculty of Arabic International Islamic University Islamabad organized a seminar in-connection with Arabic Language Day. President Prof Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh was chief guest on the occasion. While Dean Faculty of Arabic Dr. Muhammad Bashir, Dean Faculty of Shariah and Law Dr. Tahir Hakeem, Deputy Dean Faculty of Usuluddin Dr. Haroon ur Rasheed foreign faculty members including students attended the seminar.

In his address Dr. Al-Draiweesh delivered comprehensive lecture on the importance and worth of Arabic language. He said Arabic is the language in which Allah communicated to human being in Quranic form through Prophet (PBUH). He said Arabic could be the best source of unity and harmony of Muslim Ummah. President said due to universality in the nature of Arabic language can synchronize the Muslim society.

Al-Draiweesh said, as the Arabic is the language of Islam, necessary for Muslim to learn to make easy understanding of religion. Chairman Centre of Arabic Language Dr. Muhammad Ali Ghori, Dr. Abdul Manan Ahmed, In-Charge department of Translation and Interpretation Dr. Inam ul Haq Ghazi, Mr Osama Abu Helaleh also shared their views about the Arabic language.

Dr Bashir concluded the seminar and thanked the President and all the speakers, participants in the seminar. He said, it is the duty of Muslim to study and improve Arabic language to be able to understand the word and message of Allah and teaching of Prophet PBUH.

FACULTY AND STUDENTS OF DEPARTMENT OF TRANSLATION & INTERPRETATION IIUI VISITS THE SENATE OF PAKISTAN
A delegation comprising of Teachers and Students Headed by Dr. Inam-ul-Haq Ghazi, Incharge Dept. of Translation & Interpretation, International Islamic University, Islamabad visited the Senate of Pakistan. The delegation was received by the Director Interpreting Ms. Farzana and Deputy Director Protocol Ms. Shahana.

The Department of Interpreting, Senate of Pakistan arranged a briefing about its functions, working and achievements. The delegation also observed the proceedings of the Current Session of the Senate of Pakistan and visited the Interpreting Sections where, Director Interpreting explained the procedures & available technology for the interpreting services at Senate. The Senate of Pakistan also arranged a tea party for delegation.

OIC PARLIAMENT PURPOSE, COMMON FORCE AND TV CHANNEL TO ADDRESS THE ISSUES
A model session of Organization of Islamic Countries youth parliament, organized by Department of Politics and International Relations of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) in collaboration with the BRIDGE Institute of Policy Research urged that OIC should formulate peace keeping centre, work for image building of Muslim Ummah with use of media and devise a joint force to combat terrorism. The session was titled as “Muslim World in 21st Century: Challenges and Opportunities”. It was attended by Deputy Ambassador of Saudi Arabia Badar Ibrahim Alotabibi, Ambassador of Palestine Waleed Abu Ali, Press Councilor of Egyptian Embassy Hatem Muhammad Hasab Allah, Charge de affairs of Libyan embassy Abdul Wahid, President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh and various other delegates of the Muslim countries.

The session discussed topics on combating terrorism, image building of Ummah, Muslim countries in world and solidarity and joint Islamic Action. The participants urged OIC to create a mechanism of sharing intelligence and database to curb terrorism and a body to monitor corruption was suggested which would actively work for handling with the menace of corruption. It was recommended a joint TV channel must be formed to disseminate the message of peace among the world while conferences to find out ways for improvement in literacy rate of Islamic countries. The student teams, headed by their teachers, recommended in presentations that ethnic and sectarian problems must be addressed from the platform of OIC while formulating security and defence based community. Participants also stressed that bilateral conflicts of the Muslim countries should be resolved by making OIC more functional and the organization should work for the strength of political community. The session also discussed human rights issues and commission of OIC in this regard should expedite its efforts for the betterment of the situation.

Ambassador of Palestine Waleed Abu while addressing in the session said “We should provide our youth best educational opportunities, Palestinian Govt. would be found all available for sharing the experiences of its youth and children parliaments any time” Waleed Abu Ali said. He termed youth as ray of hope for the Muslim Ummah.

President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, being chief guest of the concluding ceremony of the session, said students are the precious asset of Muslim Ummah and IIUI is striving to provide a solid platform for quality education and nurturing minds equipped with contemporary skills and integrated with teachings of Islam. “Youth is future of Ummah, they should be committed to excel in science, technology and students of Muslim countries should emerge as highly skilled and talented personalities” he added. While recalling OIC meeting, President IIUI said it was a benchmark to gather Muslim countries at a platform for cause of Ummah; “such initiatives must be taken to forge unity among our ranks” he maintained. The ceremony was also attended by Chairman the BRIDGE Institute of Policy Research Abu Bakar Siddique, Dean Social Sciences Dr. Nabi Bux Jummani, Session coordinator Dr. Noor Fatima and a large number of the students of Department of Politics and International Relations.

Abubakar Sidique said on the occasion that purpose of the session was to identify problems faced by Muslim countries and address the contemporary issues while utilizing the platform of OIC.

In his vote of Thanks, Dr. Nabi Bux Jummani said politics and international relations are the salient fields to cope with the challenges of time we would have to put special focus on it. He assured that Faculty of Social Sciences would keep arranging such constructive activities in the future. Dr. Noor Fatima paid high gratitude to all the guests and IIUI administration on providing support for arrangement of the session. At the end Department of Politics and International Relations presented IIU Crest to Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh.

SECOND EDITION OF DR. GHAZI’S BOOK “ARABIC MADE EASY PART-1” PUBLISHED
The second edition of Dr. Inam ul Haq’s book “Arabic Made Easy” has been published. The book also been revised and updated with new material, important for candidates of competitive exams and it is also worth mentioning that, Arabic Made Easy is the first ever book in the market in this regard.

The Book contains Grammar, Urdu & English translations of Odes, Composition, MCQs, syntactic & Morphological explanations. The second edition of the Part-2 of the book is being printed & shall be available soon. The Academia has appreciated Dr Ghazi efforts in this pioneer work and hoped that the book would guide these candidates in an effective way.

11TH MEETING OF BASR HELD
The 11th meeting of the year 2013 of Board of Advance Studies and Research (BASR) of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh. Vice President (Academics) Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad and Director General (AF&P) Gulzar Ahmad Khwaja also attended the meeting. On this occasion, Dr. Al-Draiweesh directed the board members to make it sure that research must be conducted on new and contemporary topics and research should be impartial.

The board discussed and analyzed synopses of theses of Ph. D students from Faculty of Language & Literature and Faculty of Managements Sciences.

The board issued valuable instructions for further research work to the students. It was decided in the meeting that next session of the board would be held after two weeks.

CONTRIBUTION OF IIUI AT 6TH ASIAN PARLIAMENTARY ASSEMBLY LAUDED
On the direction of the President International Islamic University (IIU) Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh, the department of Translation & Interpretation of IIU sent a group of four interpreters (Arabic-English) lead by Dr. Inam-ul-Haq Ghazi, Head Dept. of Translation & Interpretation, Faculty of Arabic, IIU to provide simultaneous interpreting services in the 6th Asian Parliamentary Assembly held at Islamabad during 8-11 December, 2013. 31 Asian Countries participated in this mega event.

The contribution of the interpreters of IIUI was appreciated by the Arab delegates, South East Asian delegates & Director Interpreting Services, Senate of Pakistan. They also expressed their satisfaction over the quality of simultaneous interpreting which facilitated their communication in deliberations during meetings of various committees. It is important to mention that the Senate of Pakistan requested the President IIUI to provide the facility of simultaneous Interpreting for this important event held in Pakistan. The department has expressed thanks & gratitude to the President IIU for showing trust & hoped that this will encourage it for more developmental initiatives.

SAFRON MINISTER URGES TO FORMULATE ‘MUSLIM ECONOMIC BLOCK’ TO SOLVE UMMAH’S PROBLEMS
Dictatorship put Pakistan in the cage of war against terrorism, keeping in view compulsion of time, we would have to focus on core issues including stability of economy and dialogue on conflicted issues instead of deteriorating our ties with world powers, we have to devise a balanced and friendly to neighbours foreign policy.

This was the crux of the lecture delivered by Federal Minister for States and Frontier Regions Lt. Gen. (Rtd) Abdul Qadir Baloch at International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) on the topic “ Global Environment: Options, Challenges for Pakistan” which was attended by President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, Director General (AF&P) Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja, Dean Faculty of Social Science Dr. Nabi Bux Jummani, Deans of various faculties, Faculty members of Social Science and students of Politics and International Relations Department.

Abdul Qadir Baloch’s lecture was a significant glimpse of Pakistan foreign policy which also discussed problems being face by Ummah. He stressed on formulation of a ‘Muslim Economic Block’ to address the challenges of Muslim countries and utilize the resources to gain valuable position in the world.

He clarified that Present Govt. is striving for a peaceful Pakistan and friendly relations with Afghanistan and India; he also added that Pakistan was against interference in its internal matters while elaborating that Pakistan would never interfere in Afghanistan or any other country’s matters. While discussing Pakistan foreign policy on Kashmir issue, Minister for states and Frontier Regions said “use of force is not a solution of Kashmir issue, both countries should work for economic prosperity of the region, they should address the conflict on the table of dialogue”.

He said PMLN Govt. is facing problems created by the prior rulers and dictators; it has a resolve to strengthen youth as it is a base for prosperous Pakistan. Issues of power shortage, Railways betterment and many other problems are being dealt on priority basis. He urged the students to refrain from ethnic and extremist attitudes while urging them to put all their focus on making Pakistan a vibrant, prosperous state.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Al-Draiweesh said Pakistan is the heart of Ummah, any happening in the country affects the Muslim world. He added IIUI is working achievement of peace and promotion of dialogue in Pakistan and the lecture is a visible example. He urged that Holy Quran and Sunnah must be explored for guidance to solve problems and we should not interpret Quran in the shadow of self opinion. He also urged the students to refrain from extremism and violence and keenly focus on utilizing their knowledge for the development of country.

Dr. Nabi Bux Jummani, in his vote of thanks lauded the support of President IIUI for arranging the lecture; he also paid thanks to Minister for sparing time. He vowed that faculty would remain committed to promote peace and arrange such activities in future. At the end Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh presented university crest to Abdul Qadir Baloch.

Earlier, Abdul Qadir Baloch called on President IIUI where he was briefed about the present and future projects of the university. DG (AF&P) and Dean FSS were also present in the meeting.

IIUI ORGANIZED SEMINAR ON “POULTRY INDUSTRY IN PAKISTAN”
A one day seminar titled “Poultry Industry in Pakistan” organized by the Department of Bioinformatic and Biotechnology (Female) International Islamic University Islamabad, discussed the various aspects about the Poultry Industry, breeding and farming in Pakistan.

Dr. Gulraiz Ahmad, Head, Sadiq Feeds Ltd, Dr. Safdar Anjum Dean Veterinary and Animal Department, Arid Agricultural University Rawalpindi were the guest speakers. On the occasion they delivered brief lectures on the subject and cleared the misconceptions about poultry feeds regarding issues and Ostrich Biotechnology and modern trends in poultry farming. Dean Faculty of Basic & Applied Sciences IIUI Dr. Muhammad Sher, Head Department of Bioinformatics & Biotechnology (Male) Dr. Jabar Zaman Khattak, Chairperson Department of Bioinformatics & Biotechnology (Female) Dr. Naveeda Riaz including female faculty members and large number of female students also attended the lecture. Dr. Bushra Uzair was the coordinator of the seminar. A science quiz competition was also arranged on this occasion, which was won by BSBT-6 students.

DR. ABEGEBRIEL TO DELIVER LECTURE, SIGN MoU AT IIUI
Renowned Indonesian scholar Dr. H. Agus Maftuh Abegebriel will visit International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) on Friday (today), December 12, 2013 and deliver a lecture on “From Sacred Text to Sustainable Peace” at Shariah and Law faculty of the University.
He will meet President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh where an MoU for academic cooperation between IIUI and State Islamic University Sunan Kalijaga, Yogyakarta, Indonesia will also be signed.

Dr. Abegebriel is well known for his Islamic scholastic work and teaches at Faculty of Shariah and Law of State Islamic University Sunan Kalijaga, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. His lecture at IIUI, aims at the providing an opportunity for the faculty and students of the university to discuss and share their perspectives on the issues and challenges prevalent in the society.

IIUI HOLDS QIRAT & NAAT COMPETITION
The Qirat competition organized by Dawah Centre for Women International Islamic University Islamabad, 46 female students from different departments of the university participated in the competition. Director Female Campus Dr. Zaitoon Begum and Prof Jahan Aara Sajid from Govt F G College were chief guests on the occasion.

The judges’ responsibilities done by the Ex Vice Principal Read Foundation College for Women Kotli Mrs Riffat Mehmood, Qariya Farhat Perveen and Mrs Hajra Madni respectively. All the participants recited the verses from Holy Quran with absolute beauty. Nadia Ramzan clinched first position while Hafiza Sania declared second, Nimra Sultan stood third and Rizwana Azam and Hafiza Umm-e-Sulaim were awarded fourth position as combined.

Dr. Zaitoon paid high congratulations to position holders and encouraged all the participants while saying every Muslim has spiritual relation with Holy Quran. She also stressed upon the need to organize such more competitions in the context. Prof. Jahan Ara and Mrs. Robeena Khursheed also shared their views on the occasion. In-charge Dawah center for Women Shagufta Umer was the coordinator of the competition. The second round of this competition, which is Na’at Competition will be held today at DCW IIUI.

IIUI LAUNCHES ANTHROPOLOGY PROGRAMS
International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) is going to launch BS and M. Sc. programs of Anthropology in Spring 2014 and admissions for both programs are open. Academic Council IIUI has approved the launching of the new programs in Anthropology. These programs will be operated under the umbrella of Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS). Dr. Nabi Bux Jumani, Dean FSS will supervise and administrate the programs. Dr. Saif Abbasi, Assistant Professor on the male side while Dr. Nooren Seher, Assistant Professor will be incharge of the programs on female side respectively.

President IIU Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh expressed great delight over launching new academic programs and termed it as significant achievement for the IIUI.

50% OVERTIME OF IIUI EMPLOYEES INCREASED
President International Islamic University Islamabad Prof Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh has said a project of residential colony for university employees would start next year and overtime payment has also been increased up to 50 %. These announcements have been made by President IIUI on the occasion of oath taking ceremony of newly elected body of the University Staff Welfare Association (USWA). Director General (AF&P) Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja, President USWA, Ch. Nazeer Ahmed and large number of staff were also present on the occasion.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh, while lauding the hard work of the employees announced increase in allowance of employees who perform duties during holidays. He reiterated that the university would be committed to solve all the problems of the employees on priority bases and all available resources would be utilized. He added that IIUI playing significant role for development of Ummah as it is not only serving Pakistan but whole Islamic World also. “All university staff has equal worth to me and they should also be devoted to make IIUI prestigious institute”. He said.

Dr. Draiweesh stressed upon the employees to make IIUI a fort of Islam. President also paid high congratulations to newly elected body of USWA and its President Ch. Nazeer Ahmed and showed hope that they would put sincere effort for the cause of university. Speaking on the occasion Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja assured that problems presented by USWA Secretary General would be taken care with special preferences. He also lauded the role of Ch. Nazeer for the welfare of the university staff. In his remarks on the occasion Ch. Nazeer vowed that association keep playing positive role in the development of the university. He also assured that women employees would also be provided full opportunity to play their active role in the university. In his vote of thanks Sardar Hussain, General Secretary USWA highlighted the problems of the university employees. Earlier, Gulzar Ahmed took oath to newly elected body of USWA.

IIUI TO HOLD LECTURE ON “CLIMATE CHANGE LAW”
Lincoln Corner in collaboration with Students of Faculty of Sharia & Law is organizing lecture on “Climate Change Law” on December 12, 2013 at 11:30 a.m., at Seminar Hall of the Central Library of IIUI. Will McCue, Consular, U.S. Embassy Islamabad will deliver the lecture on proposed topic. Students of Faculty of Shariah & Law and Department of Environmental Sciences will attend the lecture.

IIUI; ESTABLISHES FIRST EVER DEPARTMENT OF TRANSLATION STUDIES IN PAKISTAN
The Board of Governors of IIUI has approved the establishment of the first ever Department of Translation Studies in Pakistan. The Department is named as Department of Translation & Interpretation. BOG also approved the creation of the Centre for Translation services under this department. This initiative depicts the vision of the President of IIU Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh, who has also announced, the establishment of Chair for Translation Studies at IIUI. The Department shall extend, in addition to existing BS T&I (English-Arabic), programs at MS &Ph. D levels. It will also introduce short courses such as Certificates & Diplomas in Translation & Interpreting. The promotion of multilingualism in accordance with the core objectives of International Islamic University would be improved and achieved as well.

The Center for Translation Services has been created to cater for the needs of the university & other institutions pertaining to the translation & interpreting services in languages such as Arabic, English, Urdu, Persian& Chinese. It shall provide quality services in translation of books, reports, manuals & documents etc.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh, has thanked the worthy Chairman & members of BOG on the approval of this initiative. He also appreciated the role and sincere efforts of Dr. Inam ul Haq Ghazi to make this happen. President lauded Dr. Inam ul Haq on his contributions in the field of translation and interpretation and wish him best of luck.

INTERFAITH DIALOGUE IS THE KEY OF HARMONY
A one day lecture with the title “US-Islam and Pakistan” organized by the Critical Thinking Forum (Female) and Iqbal International Institute of Research and Dialogue International Islamic University Islamabad discussed the relations among America, Islam and Pakistan. A well known scholar, diplomat and former Ambassador Akbar Salahudin Ahmed graced as worthy guest speaker. Peter Brennan Director of Strategic Communication U.S Embassy Islamabad, Vice President IIUI Dr. Mumtaz were the guest of honor, while Director Female Campus Dr. Zaitoon Begum, faculty members and large number of students also attended the lecture.

Akbar S Ahmed delivered very thought provoking lecture and shared his own experiences while being in U.S. pre and post 9/11 incident. He said the 9/11 happening triggered lot of hate and misconceptions on both sides and created vast gulf that resulted hard rift between Islam and Christianity. Akbar urged the students to explore the right way to address the issues and misconceptions as the Islam- U.S. relations deteriorated just because of misunderstanding and misinterpretation of both sides’ discourse. He said “interfaith dialogue and harmony is the key to bridge the gap and solve out all these biased narratives which exist”. He termed the young students, future of the Muslim nation; need to play their active role regarding interfaith dialogue to cap the hurdles. Akbar also stressed the student to find the answers of the questions exist in their minds pertaining to interfaith relations.

He said we should come out of the dilemma that West or U.S. is the champion of the women rights. He said Islam awarded rights to women at that time when none of the contemporary civilizations even thought over it. Akbar said hundreds and thousands of Pakistani living in America and contributing positively. Peter Brennan in his address emphasized on dialogue of civilization which is really a need of the time and important to bring the societies close to each others. He said stereotype thinking and prejudice can be overcome by setting a milieu on understanding which is the essence of dialogue. Dr. Mumtaz also shared his experience and views and said a strong voice is needed to articulate interfaith understanding which is guarantee of harmony. He said harmony leads towards avenue of progress and prosperity. Chairperson Department of English Dr. Munaza Yaqoob paid gratitude to worthy guests on sparing precious time and vowed to organize such lectures to enhance students’ capacity of understanding.


IIUI HOLDS SEMINAR ON BIO DEGRADABLE PLASTIC
A seminar on Biodegradable Plastic was organized by Department of Bioinformatics & Biotechnology at Female Campus. The seminar was chaired by Dr. Zabita Khan Shinwari Head of Department of Biotechnology at Quaid e Azam University. While Dr. Zaitoon Begum, Director Female Head Department of BIBT (Male) Dr. Jabar Zaman Khattak were guest of honor at the occasion. The seminar was also attended by the students of Fatimah Jinnah University and Bahria University Islamabad.

The guest speaker delivered a profound lecture on scope of Industrial Biotechnology and discussed various aspects of Bio Plastic and Biotechnology. He made participant aware about new trends, avenues and advancement of bio engineering, being carried on in the world. Dr. Zabita also threw light on the development, progress of bio genetics in Pakistan and mentioned the targets which have been achieved. He said, in Pakistan the demand and efficiency of using biotechnology being increased day by day and Pakistan stands on ranking 10th among the countries which produce Genetically Modify Crops in the world.

He also mentioned the importance of biotechnology in the field of bio medicines and bio control. Earlier chairperson Department of BIBT Dr. Naveeda Riaz paid warm welcome to the guest speaker on sparing precious time for IIUI and briefed about the achievements of the department. The seminar was arranged under the supervision of Dr. Bushra Uzair. A model making competition was also arranged in which students of different universities also participated.

TURKISH EDUCATIONISTS VISITS IIUI
A seventeen member Turkish educationist delegation led by Dr. Mehmet Kara Advisor for Human Rights and Freedom Turkey visited International Islamic University Islamabad and met with President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh
and discussed the matters of mutual interest and new initiatives pertaining to education on both sides. On the occasion Vice President Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed, DG Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja and all dean directors were also present.

In his welcome note Dr. Al-Draiweesh very warm welcomed and expressed immense pleasure on their visit at IIUI. He briefed them about the achieved targets, goals, planned education projects and future endeavours. President also expressed interest regarding exchange of delegation comprising students and teacher to enhance the cooperation among the universities of both the countries. He said this effort will not only beneficial for the students and teachers; it will also strengthen the ties of bilateral relations of states level. Dr. Al-Draiweesh also showed keen interest to have split degree program with the cooperation of Turkish universities.

Dr. Kara expressed his views saying, there is dire need to work on integrity and solidarity of Muslim Ummah. He said the exchange of delegations of students and teachers will prove mile stone to achieve the target of unity among Muslim Ummah. Dr. Kara also emphasized to have joint education activities and ventures including combine research projects. He assured all possible coordination and cooperation to strengthen the educations ties. Dr. Kara highly thanked to receive warm welcome in IIUI. On the occasion in his vote of thanks Dr. Mumtaz appreciated the efforts and struggles of Turkish people for the cause of Muslim Ummah especially for Palestinians. He endorsed the proposal of exchanging the delegations and purposed MoU with Turkish universities. He also invoked the idea of Turkish Language centre established in IIUI.

At the end Gulzar Ahmad Khwaja presented brief introductory presentation regarding IIUI to the delegation. Later on the delegation also visited IIUI New Campus, Faisal Masjid Campus and Dawah Academy respectively. The visits of Turikish delegation was arranged by Khubaib foundation of Pakistan.

PRESIDENT IIUI DR. AHMAD YOUSIF AL-DRAIWEESH AWARDED UNIVERSITY CREST TO DR. NYLA JABEEN ON ESTABLISHING FIRST BIO TECHNOLOGY LAB AT IIUI
Dr Nyla Jabeen Assistant Professor Department of Bio Information & Bio Technology (BIBT) International Islamic University Islamabad brought the fame to the institution by clinching the Higher Education Commission (HEC) grant of Ten Million rupees. The grant has been awarded on initiating the first best research proposal for Higher Education Commission funding and establishing the first Women’s Research Laboratory on” Applied Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (ABGE)” in BIBT Female Campus IIUI.

President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh paid high congratulation on her success. He also appreciated the efforts and devotion of Dr. Nyla’s outstanding contribution regarding research activities to enhance the capacity of research work in University. Dr. Al-Draiweesh invoked this initiative will create new opportunities for the students to explore the new avenues in the field of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering.

President also lauded the role of Dr. Nyla and hoped her endeavors will be even higher to achieve unmatched destination in the future. Dr. Al-Draiweesh presented university crest to Dr. Nyla Jabeen on her success on the occasion of One Day workshop on Science behind Biofertillizers which was organized by the Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics (Female) IIU, Islamabad.

FEMALE STUDENTS HAVE GREAT POTENTIAL TO LEAD THE NATION TOWARDS PROSPERITY; DR. AHMAD YOUSIF AL-DRAIWEESH
The new Trends of Bio fertilizer and Bio technology including the role of microbes in the modern science, the utility and potential in Pakistan was discussed in a one day workshop with the title “Science behind Bio-Fertilizer: Role of Microbe in leading Bio-Fertilizer from Imagination to Realty”, organized by the department of Bio Information & Bio Technology (Female) of International Islamic University Islamabad. President IIUI Prof Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh graced the workshop as chief guest.

Dr Muhammad Aslam, Dr. Tariq Sultan, Dr. Zulifqar from National Agriculture Research Centre (NARC) Islamabad were guest speakers while Dean Faculty of Basic and Applied Sciences IIUI Dr Muhammad Sher, Head of Department BIBT (Male) Dr Jabar Zaman Khattak, Head of Department (Female) Dr Naveeda Riaz and large number of students attended the workshop. In his address Dr. Al-Draiweesh said talented young female students are the assets of the nation, they must devote themselves in the field of science, technology to achieve the high position among the nations.

He believed that our students have great potential and talent to explore the new horizons and avenues for development of Muslim Ummah. He said these workshops are the key to get update knowledge regarding introduction of new technology, advancement and innovations being continue in the world. President urged the student to take the benefit from such workshops and seek the motivation from learned scholars and scientists and solutions of the queries regarding their research. Dr Al-Draiweesh invoked the students stick with the market trends and demands while conducting their research projects being considered them a part of market.

He went on that female energetic students have great potential to lead the nation towards prosperity. The university is focusing on to provide the opportunities and the students are supposed to explore themselves. President paid high gratitude to worthy guest speakers on sparing their precious time for IIUI. He also appreciated the efforts of Dr. Jabar Zaman Kahttak and Dr. Naveeda Riaz on organizing such beneficial and academic activity to strengthen the foundation knowledge of the students. Dr. Bushra Uzaid was the coordinator of the workshop. In the workshop the students also put forth their creative models and gave presentations on them.

PRP TEAM CALLS ON DR. AL-DRAIWEESH
A Pakistan Reading Project (PRP) team visited International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), met with President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh and discussed matters of providing scholarships to the students and assisting them in academic exchange program in the world.

Director General (AF & P) Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja, Dr. Nabi Bux Jumani, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, IIUI and Chairperson Education Department (Female Campus) Dr. Samina Malik were also present in the meeting.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh apprised the team about the recent educational projects and future plans of the university. He hoped cooperation among IIUI and PRP will help to improve standards of higher education. The team vowed to equip the students with skills which are essential for success in higher education and in the workplace. University shields were presented to the team member by the President IIUI. PRP is the project launched by US AID of worth $160 million which is aimed at boosting the reading skills of 3.2 million Pakistani students.

10TH MEETING OF BASR HELD
The 10th meeting of the year 2013 of Board of Advance Studies and Research (BASR) of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh. Vice President (Academics) Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad and Director General (AF&P) Gulzar Ahmad Khwaja also attended the meeting. On this occasion, Dr. Al-Draiweesh directed the board members to make it sure that research must be conducted on new and contemporary topics and research should be impartial.

The board discussed and analyzed synopses of theses of Ph. D students from Faculties of Usul Uddin and Language & Literature. The board issued valuable instructions for further research work to the students. It was decided in the meeting that next session of the board would be held after two weeks.

IIUI HOLDS NATIONAL WORKSHOP ON “ADVANCED ELECTRONICS: DEVICE DESIGN AND PROCESS CHARACTERIZATION”
A two-day national workshop to explore development in advanced electronics and bring specific expertise to this field, organized by Faculty of Engineering and Technology of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), started at Faisal Mosque Campus of the university on Monday which witnessed renowned scientists and technology researchers.

Pro Vice Chancellor ISRA University Islamabad Prof. Altaf Ali Shaikh was the chief guest of the inaugural session of the “National Workshop on Advanced Electronics: Device Design and Process Characterization” while it was presided over by Rector IIUI Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, Director General (AF&P) Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja and Dean FET Dr. Aqdas Naveed Malik also attended the session.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Altaf lauded the initiative of FET and also appreciated the role of HEC for providing support to universities for arranging such workshops on advanced technology research. He termed the workshop as tremendous opportunity for the young researchers and urged them to work on innovative ideas which may lead to the prosperity and development of country.

Rector IIUI, Dr Masoom Yasinzai said advancement in science and technology is pre-requisite in the present era for development of nation. “We have to focus on basic and engineering sciences to compete the modern challenges,” He added. Rector IIUI vowed to provide best educational facilities to IIUI students while saying that advancement in technology is prime focus of the university.

President IIUI, Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh said Pakistan owns best engineers and doctors while saying Pakistan a talented nation. “We have to utilize our abilities and resources to compete with contemporary challenges and the field of science and technology should be our prime focus” he added. Dr. Al-Draiweesh said IIUI is committed to complete projects pertaining to technology advancement and university would provide every possible support to its researchers in this regard. He urged faculty members to get united for development of the institution and Muslim Umma.

Dean FET Dr. Aqdas, in his welcome address said workshop is aimed at exploring speedy changes pertaining to electronic engineering and the gathering would provide platform to learn about the changes and advancements.” Nation associates hopes with scientists and we have to pay something constructive, the workshop is part of that struggle” he maintained. He also thanked IIUI top management for support to arrange the workshop.

Earlier, Principal Investigator and Advisor to IIUI Engineering programs Dr. Ahmed Shuja Syed gave a brief introduction of the workshop. The participants were guided regarding Advanced Electronic Design & Fabrication, Research and Development in flexible and reconfigurable and power adaptive power amplifiers for wireless communication, High Frequency Phototransistor for Optoelectronic Applications, Design and Fabrication of High Speed and Low Power ADCs and various other important topics on the first day of the workshop. The workshop would conclude on Tuesday.

A WORKSHOP ON PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM FOR UNIVERSITY TEACHERS: BY DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION (FC) IIUI
The department of Education (Female Campus), International Islamic University, Islamabad organized 3-day workshop with the title of “Academic Planning and Management” at Central Library of the university. Malik Nadeem Hassan who is Management Consultant at Maple Management Services was the resource person of this workshop.

He briefed the participant about the managing the organizational systems, structures and process. Dr, Nadeem also made it easy for participants to understand the project and institutional management. Dr Samina Malik, Chairperson Department of Education (Female) IIUI accentuated the need of continuous professional development of faculty members. She alleged that lack of proper management may lead to inefficiency of individuals and their institutions. She also said this workshop has tried to build up planning and management competencies of 30 young male and female faculty members of the university. It was the second workshop of series of Professional Development Program for University Teachers (PDPUT). The next workshop of this series will be organized on “Curriculum Development” in the month of December, 2013.

SHARIAH ACADEMY TO HOLD INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON “THE ROLE OF MODERATION IN THE STABILITY OF SOCIETY”
Shariah Academy, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) will hold an International Conference on “The Role of Moderation in the Stability of Society” from January 21-23, 2014, at Allama Iqbal Auditorium, Faisal Masjid Campus of the university. This International Conference is being organized in pursuance of the directive of President IIUI, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh.

Renowned high profile scholars from abroad including Mufti Ahmad Bin Hamd al Khalili, Grand Mufti of Jordon, Dr. Muhammad Tullabi, Chief Editor “Al-Toheed”, Morocco, Dr. Muhammad Al-Khaliala, Secretary Dept. of Ifta, Jordon, Dr. Muhammad Khateeb, Dean Faculty of Shariah, University of Oman, Oman, Dr. Saaduddin Usmani, Foreign Minister Morocco and Mr. Marvan al Fahori, General Secretary, International Forum for Moderation, Jordon will participate in the conference. Beside above, eminent scholars from the country will also present their papers in the conference.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN CONFERENCE AT IIUI
MUSLIM COUNTRIES URGED TO DEVISE STRATEGIES FOR WOMEN EMPOWERMENT
International women conference, organized at International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), declared its resolve in setting priorities and developing strategies for women empowerment within the framework of Islamic paradigm.

This was the crux of the recommendations, presented at concluding session of a two day conference on “Emerging Role of Women in Muslim Societies: Opportunities and Challenges,” held at Quaid-i-Azam Auditorium, Faisal Mosque.

The concluding session was presided over by Rector IIUI Dr. Masoom Yasinzai while Secretary Law and Justice Barrister Zafarullah Khan was the chief guest. Founding member International Muslim Women Union, Sudan Dr. Suad Al Fateh Al Badawai, Pro Chancellor Riphah International University Hassan Muhammad Khan, Vice President IIUI (academics) Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed, Chairperson International Muslim Women Union Dr. Kausar Firdous and Director female campus IIUI Dr. Zaitoon Begum also attended the ceremony. Women Activists from Sudan, Egypt, Indonesia, Russia, Hungary and all across the world also attended the ceremony.

Participants declared strong commitment and faith in Islam as a complete code of life imparting guidance in all aspects of life including women issues. They called upon Muslim governments for establishing women and family development ministries instead of only women development ministries and also stressed upon them to curb the dominance of western paradigm while terming it contradictory to Islamic values. The conference also called upon academia of Muslim countries to develop and implement compulsory family focused curriculum and urged to come forward to abolish all of local discriminatory customs and traditions against women.

Barrister Zafarullah khan, while speaking on the occasion said there is no gender discrimination in Islamic paradigm and endorsed the recommendations of the conference. He added we associate fake values with Islam which result in violation of economic, social and other fundamental rights of women adding that Islam does not abhor female education. He emphasized on legislation for women rights and implementation of Islamic paradigm. “We must master the spirit of time, we must change the time” he added while urging to take measures for active women participation in society.

Dr. Hassan Muhammad Khan, in his remarks urged for establishing societies which should recognize the role of women. He was of the view that Muslim countries should judge the contemporary challenges and devise strategies to cope with those. He also lauded the efforts of the organizers for arranging an important conference.

Dr. Masoom Yasinzai’s speech was inspiring for the participants in which he announced that IIUI was mulling over establishing a medical women collage for making the Pakistani women empowered. He added IIUI is already implementing the recommendations of the conference and separate campus for 14,000 female students of the Muslim countries is a visible example. “No sane society can deny the role of women in its progress, women can play vital role in economic and societal development” he maintained. He urged the media for appropriate portrayal of women within the limits granted by Islam.

Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed, in his speech at concluding session said IIUI is an equal opportunity provider and provides a milieu of interfaith harmony while negating the sectarianism and gender discrimination. “We are committed for women empowerment” he said while lauding the active participation of Muslim women in the conference. Dr Kouser Firdaus, who presented the recommendations, said they called upon govts to legislate flexible working hours for women with provision of day-care, ensure three-month maternity leave and allow them to compete for government jobs till the age of 40.

“Educational Opportunities and Preferences” and “Women at Work” were the themes of the second day of the conference. During various sessions on the second day of the conference wife of ambassador of Saudi Arabic in Pakistan Johra Abdullah al –Areefi and Federal Secretary of Women Development, Ex Vice President IIUI Parween Qadir Agha were the chief guests while Dr. Ameena Nasir Former Director Female Campus IIU and Ms. Asia Nasir, Member National Assembly of Pakistan were guests of honour. Dr. Samia Raheel Qazi, President Asian Region International Muslim Women Union and Dr. Mazahir Mohammad Ahmed Osman, Secretary General International Muslim Women Union, Sudan presided over the sessions.

IIUI TO HOLD TWO DAY WORKSHOP ON “ADVANCE ELECTRONICS: DEVICE DESIGN AND PROCESS CHARACTERIZATION”
Department of Electronics Engineering of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) is organizing two day workshop on “Advance Electronics: Device Design and Process Characterization” in the university. The inaugural ceremony of the conference will be held Today (Monday), December 02, 2013 at 10:00 a.m., at Quaid-e-Azam Auditorium of the Faisal Masjid Campus of the university. The conference will conclude on Tuesday.
