IIUI HOLDS LECTURE ON THYROID HEALTH AWARENESS
International Islamic University (female campus) holds a lecture on the topic “Thyroid and Health awareness” with the collaboration of Kulsoom International Hospital Islamabad, in connection with international thyroid day. Dr. Nighat Bilal guest speaker from Kulsoom International Hospital delivered a comprehensive lecture on the above said topic. Dr. Zaitoon Begum Director female campus IIUI, Dr Asma Gul, Chairperson Department of environmental sciences and large number of students were also present on the occasion.

In her lecture Dr. Nighat explained the function, causes and effects of the thyroid in human body. She told the students that the decreasing level of Iodine in the diet leading to insufficient Thyroid Harmon results in lower the IQ levels in children. “If the thyroid is immensely enlarged, there is high risk that the surrounding organ may also be affected”. She added. Guest speaker Dr Nighat also awaked the students that those who have thyroid in their family history, every member must check his or her thyroid at least one’s in a life. Dr Nighat also threw the light on the diseases that are, because of the thyroid like Goiter, Hypothyroidism, Hyperthyroidism, Thyroid Nodules and Thyroid Cancer.

In her address Dr Zaitoon thanked to the respective guest speaker and said that IIUI always focus to arrange informatory lectures, seminar etc, the purpose and objective to organize such kind of lecture is to create a better social, moral and medical understanding among students. After the lecture students also asked questions related to thyroid problems. Earlier, Dr Asma Gul welcomed the distinguished guest speaker and apprised the audience about their contribution. At the end of the lecture Dr. Zaitoon Begum and Dr. Asma Gul presented the Souvenir to guest speaker Dr. Nighat Bilal.

M. RAFIQ TAHIR NOMINATED AS MEMBER OF SELECTION BOARD
Rector, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) has nominated Mr. Muhammad Rafiq Tahir, Joint Educational Advisor, Ministry of Capital Administration & Development as member of Selection Board for two years.

6TH MEETING OF BASR HELD
The 6th meeting of the year 2013 of Board of Advance Studies and Research (BASR) of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh. Vice President IIUI Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman also attended the meeting. On this occasion, Dr. Al-Draiweesh directed the board members to make it sure that research must be conducted on new and contemporary topics.

The board discussed and analyzed synopses of theses of Ph. D students from department of Shariah & Law. The board issued valuable instructions for further research work to the students. It was decided in the meeting that next session of the board would discuss thesis of students of social sciences.

 

 

 

IIUI OFFERS 9TH ADVANCED CORRESPONDENCE COURSE IN USUL-AL-FIQH
Shariah Academy of International Islamic University has offered its 9th advanced correspondence course in Usul-al-Fiqh. The purpose of this course is to provide specialized study of Islamic jurisprudence to the legal fraternity such as members of judiciary, practicing lawyers, students of law colleges and the common graduates as well.

The course is of one year duration and based upon the scholarly works of notable writers. The course fee is Rs.1800/ and 50% concession is offered to the students of law colleges, members of judiciary and defense personnel. Admission form and details of the course can be downloaded from the website of the university. Last date of submission of application is 14 June 2013.

IIUI PLANS ENCOURAGE NEW ADMISSIONS AND TO FACILITATE STUDENTS UP TO MAXIMUM
Prof. Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) urged management and faculty staff to make admission process easy for new comers and enhance the number of admission by facilitating them up to maximum level. He also emphasized to start one window operation for admission but should great care that IIUI would not compromise on merit. President IIUI expressed these views on occasion of IIUI admission committee meeting for the admission Fall-2013. Vice President (AF&P) Prof. Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman, deans and heads of departments also attended the meeting.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh said that the Islamic University would not compromise on its quality; our every program should be approved on the academic council and it must be according to the standard of HEC. President also constituted a committee to address the reservations, opinions and suggestions for new admissions Fall-2013 raised by the committee members.

AAMIR SHAHZAD AWARDED PARTICIPATION IN INTL. CONFERENCE ON LIBRARY SCIENCES BY STICHTING IFLA FOUNDATION
Mr. Aamir Shahzad, Assistant Manager Information Resource Centre (IRC) Central Library, International Islamic University Islamabad has been awarded participation in international Conference on library sciences granted by the Stichting IFLA Foundation. He is to attend IFLA World Library and Information Congress, 79th IFLA General Conference and Assembly from 17-23 August 2013, Singapore. 10 Library information sciences professionals from all over the world were awarded. Of course, it is great honor and pride not only for the Islamic University but the community of Library and Information Science in Pakistan also.

 

 

 

IIUI PLANNING TO ESTABLISH SEPARATE FACULTY FOR IT: DR. AL- DRAIWEESH
Information technology has become a prerequisite for development in this global world, keeping the fact in view International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) keenly focusing to equip its students with advance knowledge of IT; IIUI has plan to establish a separate faculty for information technology. President IIUI expressed these views while addressing to prize distribution ceremony of “WOWZAPP Hackathon- Windows and app development competition” organized by Department of Computer Science & Software Engineering here on Friday. These competitions were organized by Microsoft Pakistan at national level in December 2012. Ceremony was also attended by Dean Faculty of Basic and Applied Sciences, Dr. Muhammad Sher, Microsoft officials and students of computer science.

“Pakistani youth has great potential and talent, it can contribute a lot in progress of Muslims Ummah and IIUI would keep providing opportunities to strengthen Pakistani youth” Dr. Al-Draiweesh said. He lauded the WOWZAPP competition and termed it a positive step towards vast cooperation between IIUI and Microsoft. He added that not only students of IT but other disciplines should be included in the future programs, where officials should introduce them with basics of the new change in field of IT. He urged the students to observe transformations in IT and research on contemporary topics. Earlier Dr. Muhammad Sher in his address on the occasion said that Pakistani youth has guts to rule the world and their talent in field of IT is quite visible to the world. He assured the students that Dept of Computer Sciences would keep arranging such programs in collaboration with Microsoft and other National & International organizations.

At the end, prizes were distributed among the winners of the competition while special gift from Microsoft was also presented to Dr. Al-Draiweesh.

Meanwhile, Dr. Al-Draiweesh also visited the Faculty of Arabic in female campus where a competition of calligraphy was organized by the faculty. Dr. Al-Draiweesh lauded the art work of the students and rewarded them 20,000 rupees for their brilliant effort while Faculty of Arabic also rewarded the winner students with prizes. Director female campus, Dr. Zaitoon Begum and teacher of calligraphy Dr. Moid Fahdil were also present on the occasion. Competition was based on two important Khatoot of calligraphy, Khat e Ruqa and Khat e Koofi. At the end, a piece of calligraphy was presented to Dr. Al-Draiweesh by the students.

 

 

ISLAMIC ECONOMIC SYSTEM IS A GUARANTOR OF SOCIAL JUSTICE AND ECONOMIC STABILITY; DR. MUMTAZ AHMAD
Islamic economics proved itself and secured good rank in contemporary economic systems. Today all the world fame economic institutes including IMF, World Bank are bound to conduct research on Islamic banking, economics and finance. These views were expressed by the Vice president (academics) IIUI Prof. Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed on the seminar titled “The concept and implementation of Islamic banking and finance” organized by the faculty of management sciences (female) at old campus of the University. Dean faculty of management sciences Dr. Bashir Khan, executive vice president Meezan Bank, renowned economist and author Anwar Abbasi, Abu Bakar, Tasneem Fatima and Samina Chugtai also addressed to the seminar.

Dr. Mumtaz said that world was not ready to accept the reality of Islamic economics just four decade before, rather it was categorized as subject of Islamic study. He further said that Islamic economic system proved the worth and paved a way in the centre line of world economic system. Dr. Mumtaz said “today every country has Islamic financing in its economic system and Islamic economic system is a guarantor of social justice, economic stability and it’s highly against the capitalistic system”. Dr Bashir said that Islam is complete code of life, and we have most authentic and reliable source of knowledge in the form of Holy Quran and Sunnah. These sources warn us about the interest system that is highly poisonous for humanity, so it’s dire need of the time to introduce Islamic banking and financing. He said these kinds of seminars are very helpful to create the awareness and remove all the doubts pertaining to Islamic economic system from the mind of youth. At the end of seminar Dr. Mumtaz awarded shields among guest speakers and students.

IIUI HOLDS PROGRAM ON CULTURAL DIVERSITY
Lincoln Corner, Central library of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) organized a proactive program on Cultural Diversity. The program was organized to mark the observance of World Cultural Diversity Day. During the program, Robert Raines, Deputy Cultural Attaché U.S. Embassy, Islamabad engaged a group of students and faculty members in practical exercises on thinking out of box, respecting difference of opinions and team building skills. Students from Somalia, China, Afghanistan and Pakistan participated in the program.

 

 

 

 

YOUTH REAL ASSET AND POWER OF MUSLIM UMMAH: UAE ENVOY
Ambassador of United Arab Emirates to Pakistan Essa Abdullah Al-Basha Al-Noaimi has said that youth is real asset and power of Muslim Ummah and Institutions like International Islamic University (IIUI) can play vital role to prepare this youth for their decisive role in the progress and prosperity of their respective countries.

He was addressing to a ceremony, held in honor of IIUI graduates of UAE today. Rector IIUI Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, Director Academics Shagufta Haroon and heads of various faculties and departments of the university were also present on the occasion.

Abdullah Al-Basha said that Pakistan is great nation and UAE always enjoyed excellent relation with Pakistan. He vowed that efforts for broadening the relations between both countries would continue. While congratulating the students on graduation he advised them to work for betterment of Muslim Ummah. UAE Ambassador lauded the efforts of IIUI for promotion of education and termed the recent cultural week of the university as an omen of unity among The Muslim countries. Dr. Masoom Yasinzai in his address said that it was an occasion of immense pleasure that Arab Students passed their degrees in regional Pakistani languages. “Today life is competitive, only a devoted, hardworking and committed to profession person can excel in the field, we expect same characteristics to be applied by IIUI graduates” He said. He termed the graduation of UAE students from IIUI as an addition in strong PAK-UAE ties.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh also spoke on the occasion and said that doors of IIUI always remain open for the seekers of knowledge; foreign students would be welcomed as IIUI always strives for establishing strong ties with Muslim countries. He stressed on the students to apply Islam in practical life and disseminate the message of peace and harmony which they learnt at IIUI.

Earlier, graduate students shared their experiences of degrees and delivered speeches in regional Pakistani languages. At the end of the ceremony, students were awarded shields while exchange of souvenirs also took place from both sides.

DEPARTMENT OF SOCIOLOGY OF INTERNATIONAL ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY ISLAMABAD HOLD EYE CAMP
Foresight should also be brighten, enlighten and broader as our eyesight, because Eye is one of the precious blessings of Allah to human being,. These views were expressed by the President IIUI Prof. Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh. He was addressing to students and staff members at the occasion of inaugural of the free eye camp. It was organized by the joint efforts of the Department of Sociology IIUI and Al-Shifa International eye trust hospital at male campus of the University. In his address President IIUI highly appreciated the step, taken by the students and paid high gratitude to the team of Al-Shifa led by Dr. Najam Anjum. Dr Al- Draiweesh while lauding the event said that these kinds of activities are the vital examples that IIUI is heading towards achieving of its core objectives of the University.

He put stress on the other departments that, they should follow the same suit and expand their social activities along with the education. He further said ”we can create an environment of understanding and good-will among the departments by organizing these healthy events with mutual endeavors”. Earlier Dr. Saif Abbasi head department of sociology thanked president for sparing his precious time and encouraged them on organizing eye camp. More than three hundred students and staff members took benefit from the free eye camp.

DEPARTMENT OF BIOINFORMATICS & BIOTECHNOLOGY (FEMALE) WINS “GO GREEN IDEAS COMPETITION”
Three member team including Aqsa Waqar, Tayyaba Rehman, and Faryal Ali from Department of Bioinformatics & Biotechnology, IIUI secured first position in “Go Green ideas Competition”. Five renowned universities’ teams participated in the competition including from UET, and HITEC. The purpose of the competition was to bring forth the ideas ogling in the minds of the young people, for the welfare and betterment of the earth. Each team was to give a presentation on a topic for 10 minutes. Topic was to be selected from following categories. 1) Carbon neutrality 2) Waste management. 3) Deforestation. Focus of IIU team was on Waste management and their idea was “Composting of food scraps at home”. With the grace of Allah IIUI team “won” the competition defeating UET being the runner up team. Team members were awarded with a shield and certificates.

DR. AL-DRAIWEESH URGES FOR UNITY AND BROTHERHOOD AMONG MUSLIMS
Unity and brotherhood lead the societies towards success and prosperity while sectarianism and rigidity ruin the societies, Islam teaches about welfare and peace, Muslims should get united for the progress of Ummah because it is need of hour.

These views were expressed by President International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh in his address at a dinner with members of Faculty of Basic and Applied Sciences (FBAS). Vice President IIUI Sahibzada Sajid-ur-Rehman, Dean FBAS Dr. Muhammad Sher and heads of various departments of the university were also present on the occasion.

Stressing upon the need of devotion for the progress of university Dr. Al-Draiweesh said that one should not impose his views forcibly on others but one should always adopt an attitude of tolerance and patience. “Image building and progress of IIUI must be our top priority, we should forget our personal differences to make it an unprecedented institution” President IIUI said. He urged the teachers to promote the characteristic of research among the students and advised them to relate their research with Quran and Sunnah. “Muslims should discourage extremism and violence as it is need of hour, they should study Quan and Sunnah and get benefit of this treasure given to them by Allah Almighty” he added. He assured of every possible support for the creative projects and steps for development of university whereas he also said that solution of the problems of staff is top priority of university.

Participants of the dinner thanked Dr. Al-Draiweesh for sparing time with them and lauded his efforts for the development of the university.

IIUI HOLDS 5TH MEETING OF BASR
The 5th meeting of the year 2013 of Board of Advance Studies and Research of IIUI held on Tuesday. President of IIUI Prof. Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh chaired the meeting.
On this occasion President Dr. Al-Draiweesh said that faculty should make it sure to facilitate the students, so they may be able to produce credible research work on contemporary issues. Respective board discussed and analyzed seven synopsis of thesis of PhD students from department of Shariah & Law and Social Sciences of IIUI. The board issued valuable instructions for further research work to the students. It also approved the minutes and agenda discussed in 4th meeting of BASR of IIUI.

 

 

 

 

DR. GHAZI REPRESENTS IIUI IN KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA
Head Department of Translation and Interpretation of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), Dr. Inam Ul Haq Ghazi visited KSA where he represented IIUI and presented a paper in the Forum of universities and institutions related to the service of Arabic language in the Gulf Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf held Riyadh. He was invited for this visit by Ministry of Higher Education KSA and King Abdullah International Centre for the service of Arabic language Riyadh.

The topic of Dr. Ghazi’s paper was: “Objectives of Learning Arabic; a case study of Pakistani professionals”. In this two-day Forum he apprised the participants about contribution of IIUI in teaching Arabic language. He also visited King Saud University, Riyadh where he met Dean Institute of Arabic Teaching to Non-Native Speakers and discussed possibilities of cooperation between KSU and IIUI. On the Instructions of President IIU, Dr. Ghazi also visited Imam Muhammad Ibn-e-Saud University, Riyadh Saudi Arabia, where he exchanged proposals for mutual projects with Dean Faculty of Languages and Translation and Dean Institute of Arabic language, this exchange of proposals was a part of already signed MOU between both the universities. President IIU Prof Dr. Al-Draiweesh has expressed his pleasure and appreciated Dr. Ghazi for his academic contribution in the Forum and for representing IIU during the event.

IIU TO HOLD ONE DAY EYE CAMPS TODAY
Department of Sociology of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) in collaboration with Department of Human Rights and Minorities Affairs, Govt of Punjab & Al-Shifa Eye Trust is organizing one Day Eye Camp at Faculty Block 01 of the university Today (Wednesday), May 22, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President IIUI shall inaugurate the eye camp.

IIU TO HOLD SEMINAR ON “ISLAMIC BANKING & FINANCE: CONCEPT & APPLICATION” TODAY
Faculty of Managements Sciences (Female Campus) of the International Islamic University, Islamabad is organizing seminar on “Islamic Banking & Finance: Concept & Application” today (Wednesday), May 22, 2013 at 09:00 A.M at Quaid-e-Azam Auditorium, Faisal Masjid Campus of the university. Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad, Vice President (Academics), IIUI shall be the chief guest on the occasion.

USEFP ORGANIZES FREE WORKSHOP FOR GRE
United States Education Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) organized a free workshop for GRE at IIUI. During the workshop, participants were given awareness about importance GRE. USEFP also conducted a free of cost Mock test (similar to GRE) for selected candidates among the GRE participants. This test was conducted by USEFP in all important stations in Pakistan in which students of IIUI clinched top positions.

Education ultimate solution of contemporary problems: Dr. Al-Draiweesh
Education is a vital guarantee for the progress and prosperity of nations, and it has ultimate solution of contemporary problems. International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) is keenly focusing on quality education and promotion of knowledge which is prerequisite for the development of society. There is dire need to introduce new aspects of education in universities and to take initiatives for looking new avenues in this field. These views were expressed by Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh , President IIUI while addressing to a seminar titled “ National Professional Standards for Teachers in Pakistan” organized by Department of Education (female) in female campus of the university. Dean faculty of social sciences Dr. Nabi Bux Jumani, Chairperson Department of education, Dr. Samina Malik and large number of teachers and students were also present on the occasion.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh said that highly skilled and professional teachers are utmost need for the Muslim Ummah, as they could play an important role for its development and prosperity. He further said” we are focusing and striving to achieve the purpose to produce highly professional and skilled graduates integrated with teaching of Islam who could be able to face the contemporary challenges”. President explained that our top priority is quality education not just number production. On this occasion he also presented a plan to convert education department into a separate faculty. He said university was also mulling over exchange of students between IIUI and good ranked universities of Saudi Arabia, in this regard, he asked the concerned staff to constitute a committee for selection of talented students and teachers. He was of the view that women always have integral role in the prosperity and development of the country, therefore IIUI managed to give an equal importance to its female students. He urged the students to give core importance to research as it is a need of the hour. He said contemporary challenges must be dealt according to the teachings of Quran and Sunnah.

Dr. Jummani, in his address said that Education Department of IIUI was one of the top position departments of Pakistan which provides training to the teachers. He lauded the active role of the teachers of the department and assured them of every possible support. Earlier, Dr. Samina Malik also addressed to the seminar and apprised the participants about the history and achievements of the department.

IIUI ORGANIZES 4TH ANNUAL OPEN HOUSE, STUDENTS PRESENT INNOVATIVE PROJECTS

Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) organized 4th annual Open House here on Thursday which was attended by the Professionals from Industry, organizations, institutions and academies. Students presented their innovative projects on the occasion. Event, in both male and female campuses of the university was duly appreciated.

Closing ceremony of the open house was attended by Dr. Anees Ahmed Vice Chancellor RIPHAH International University Islamabad, Dr. Masoom Yasinzai Rector IIUI, Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh President IIUI, Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman Vice President IIUI, Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed Vice President ( academics) IIUI and a large number of students.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Anees Ahmed being chief guest said that Pakistan posses a valuable potential of knowledge, we must equip our youth with solid research. “We should encourage solid research and discourage plagiarism; this would certainly improve our criteria of education” he maintained. He lauded the projects presented by young students and urged them to give equal importance to theory and practical application of their degree subjects.

Speech of Dr. Masoom Yasinzai was a source of creating a milieu of devotion for knowledge among the students; he congratulated the students on organizing successful Open House. He said science and technology plays vital role in the progress of developing countries that is why IIUI keenly focuses on further improving its engineering faculty. “IIUI students of engineering getting education integrated with teachings of Islam, this would prepare personalities better than others and will help them to fight with the contemporary challenges in a better way” IIUI Reactor said. He stressed upon the students to devote their selves for knowledge and assured them of every possible support from IIUI in the regard of creative and unique projects.

Later, shield was presented by Dr. Al-Draiweesh to Dr. Anees Ahmed while certificates and shields were also distributed among the students who clinched positions in the competition of stalls. Earlier, Rector and President IIUI along with Vice Presidents of the university visited the stalls arranged by the students and appreciated the efforts and creativity of the students.

Meanwhile, closing ceremony of the 4th annual open house held at Female Campus of the university was joined by Ijaz Ahmed Mukhtar Chairman, Khan Research Laboratories as chief guest while Dr .Zaitoon Begum Director, Female Campus and Ms .Saba Hameed, Chairperson FET were also present on the occasion. Ijaz Ahmed Mukhtar termed the event a milestone towards the development of science sand technology in Pakistani universities.

DR. AL-DRAIWEESH URGES MUSLIMS TO GET UNITED FOR PROMOTION OF EDUCATION
Pakistan has a pivotal role in the development of Muslim Ummah and posses a high potential of talent and intellectuals, we should work together with devotion for the promotion of knowledge, we should take benefit of knowledge provided by of Muslim scientists. These views were expressed by Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al Draiweesh, President, International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) as a chief guest of concluding ceremony of “Workshop on Physics Laboratory Equipments in the Universities & Post Graduate Colleges”. Dr. Nazir Ahmed Sangi Vice Chancellor (AIOU), Dr. Waqar Adil Syed, Chairman, Department of Physics IIUI, Dr. Zia ul Haq, Dean Faculty of Shariah and Law, Deans and heads of various departments of AIOU including participants of the workshop were present on the occasion.

Dr Al-Draiweesh said that we should keenly focus on promotion of education without discrimination, in which women must be given equal prerogative to gain knowledge. “Islam is a special blessing of Allah on Muslims, it is a source of linkage and cooperation between Muslim countries, they should get united and focus on improvement of educational criteria”, President IIUI said. He stressed upon the Muslims scholars that they should discourage sectarianism and extremism and urged for dissemination of educational research. He termed educational cooperation as a bridge towards development of Ummah. Dr. Al-Draiweesh lauded the workshop and hoped such activities would continue in future. He added that importance of science subjects was a contemporary requirement and all the universities should work together for advancements of science subjects in the country.

Dr. Nazir Ahmed Sangi, in his speech on the occasion said that educational promotion was a top priority of AIOU and cooperation in this regard would be welcomed by his university. “Illiteracy is one of the main hurdles in the development of Muslims, which can be dealt with promotion of education and mutual cooperation among the countries of Muslim Ummah” Dr. Sangi said. He also apprised the participants of ceremony about the recent projects of education launched by AIOU. Dr. Sangi lauded the role of IIUI and its President Dr. Al Draiweesh, for the cooperation in the field of educational promotion. At the end, Dr. Nazir Sangi presented souvenir to Dr. Al-Draiweesh while certificates were also distributed among the participants of the workshop.

Department of Education of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) is organizing a Seminar on “National Professional Standards For Teachers in Pakistan” Today (Friday), May 17, 2013 at 01:45 PM. PRESIDENT IIUI DIRECTS TO ENHANCE RESEARCH CRITERIA IN VARSITY
President International Islamic University, Islamabad Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh on Wednesday paid a visit to Usuluddin faculties of male and female campuses and gave directions to the concerned staff regarding academic and administrative matters of faculty. Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed Vice President (academics) was also present with Dr. Al-Draiweesh.

While talking to the faculty members in the male campus, Dr. Al-Draiweesh directed to enhance the research work in the university. He urged the staff members to arrange interactive activities in the regard of research; he added that it would help the students to get familiar with contemporary requirements in the field of research. The President IIUI lauded the efforts of Former Dean of Faculty of Usuluddin, Dr. Zafarullah Baig and awarded him a shield and certificate for his services to the faculty.

Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed also spoke on the occasion; he said we should work hard to achieve the core objectives of IIUI. Later, Dr. Al-Draiweesh along with Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed also visited the Usuluddin Faculty in female campus. President met with the employees during an interactive session and assured the faculty members that their problems would be solved at priority bases.

IIUI STUDENTS SHINE IN ALL PAKISTAN “SOFTWARE & ENGINEERING” COMPETITION
Students of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) have performed tremendously in the all Pakistan “Software & Engineering” competition organized by RACHNA College, Gujranwala. IIUI students participated in various competitions where they claimed first position in photography and two 2nd positions in computer game categories while an IIUI student also clinched the title of best student ambassador.

Faraz Javed, Umar Wajid, M. Waqas, Danyal Ali and Ch. Shehzad of Faculty of Basic and Applied Sciences who were among the winners, have dedicated their success to the university. IIUI TO HOLD WORKSHOP ON “IMPLEMENTATION OF WTO AGREEMENTS IN PAKISTAN”
A one-day workshop titled “Implementation of World Trade Organization (WTO) Agreement in Pakistan” will be organized by Faculty of Shariah and Law (Female ) of the International Islamic university Islamabad (IIUI) on May 15 (Wednesday) in Fatima tu Zahra Block of Female Campus, at 10:00 AM. Faiz ullah Khilji from Dispute Settlement Body, WTO (Geneva) will be the chief guest on the occasion. The workshop aims at enhancing the knowledge of future academicians and practicing lawyers. Dr. Hamud ur Rehman, Director, National Tarriff Commission, Salman Farooq, Advocate Supreme Court of Pakistan and Tipu Sultan, Consultant, International Trade Law, Trade Development Authority of Pakistan will be the resource persons of the workshop.

IIIE RESEARCHERS WIN RESEARCH AWARDS FOR INTERNATIONAL ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY ISLAMABAD

Dr. Pervez Zamurrad Janjua, Foreign Professor and Dr. Atiq-ur-Rehman, Assistant Professor, International Institute of Islamic Economics, have won two prestigious research awards for International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI).
The first research award, amounting PKR 36016877-, has been approved by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan under National Research Program for Universities (NRPU). The grant is awarded to estimate indicators of skill mismatch in the selected cities (provincial capitals) of Pakistan.
The second research award, amounting US$20000/-, has been approved by the Planning Commission of Pakistan under Pakistan Strategy Support Program in collaboration with USAID and International Food Policy Research Institute. The grant is awarded to estimate labor market skill mismatch in selected professions of twin cities (federal capital) of Pakistan.
The expected benefits of the research projects are summarized below:

  1. The proposed study will promote research activities on behalf of IIUI.
  2. The study will enable us to engage our MS/PhD scholars in applied research
  3. The students will get guidelines about choice of their career from the output of study
  4. The educational institutions will get the benefit of streamlining their educational projects in accordance with national needs
  5. The state authority responsible for higher education will be supported to steer the academic activities to the priority areas
  6. The government will be able to reduce the problems associated with unemployment.
DR. AL-DRAIWEESH INVITES VCs OF PAK UNIVERSITIES TO VISIT IIU
President International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) Dr Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh participated in a ceremony of signing an MoU between Azerbaijan embassy and Inter University Consortium for Social Sciences where he discussed matters pertaining to educational promotion with vice chancellors of different universities. The ceremony was held in Higher Education Commission (HEC), Islamabad, in which Ambassador of Azerbaijan, Chairman HEC Dr. Javed Laghari and Vice Chancellors of various universities participated while Rector IIUI Dr. Masoom Yasin Zai was also present on the occasion.

During his address in the ceremony, Dr. Al-Draiweesh said HEC is playing a vital role for providing platforms to universities about mutual cooperation in the field of higher education. He showed the desire that IIUI should also be included in the consortium. President IIUI invited the participant VCs of the universities to visit IIUI and added that university will welcome every step in the regard of enhancement of bilateral cooperation in the field of education. According to MoU, Azerbaijan will provide scholarships to 36 students to 12 Pakistani universities. Establishment of Heydar Aliyev Chairs & Azerbaijan Study centres in member universities, is also part of MoU.

IIUI HOLDS LECTURE ON “ISLAM AND AMERICA TODAY: FROM 9/11 TO BOSTON BOMBINGS”
Majority of the Americans has incomplete knowledge of Islam and Muslims which is one of the main hurdles that create a gap between the Muslim world and the USA but in spite of negative propaganda an estimated thirty-thousand Americans convert into Islam every year.

These views were expressed by Marriam Ahmed who converted to Islam and working as Assistant Director Programs and Operations in the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs at Georgetown University, America. She was the guest speaker of a lecture titled “Islam and America Today: From 9/11 to Boston Bombings” organized by International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) at the female campus on Wednesday. The lecture was attended by the Director of female campus Dr Zaitoon Begum, Chair Person Department of Politics and International Relations Dr Noor Fatima, large number of the students and by the husband of Marriam, Umar Ahmed , a human rights lawyer in the US.

Marriam Ahmed was of the view that Pakistan and America share constitutional and democratic values and stressed upon the need of bridging the gap, by introducing the common values of both countries which are not widely known on both sides and through disseminating the actual message of Islam. “It is urgent for America to comprehend Islam, not only for the sake of its ideals like compassion, knowledge, peace, and interfaith harmony, but in order to achieve peace and understanding with the approximately 7 million American Muslims, 1.5 billion Muslims worldwide, and 57 Muslim states” Marriam said. She stressed that people in both the US and Pakistan, including in the government, media, academia, and public, must work to understand each other through inter-religious and intercultural initiatives. She also noted that Pakistani immigrants in the USA play vital role in its progress and serve as bridge builders between the two nations. While talking about IIUI, she said that university truly represents the true diversity of the global village and it can provide a platform for promotion of interfaith harmony in line with the best of the liberal education tradition and Islamic ideals and practices.

The lecture witnessed an interactive session of questions and answers, in which Marriam Ahmed and her husband Umar Ahmed answered important queries from the participant students. Umar Ahmed said that inappropriate media portrayal of sensitive issues creates hurdles in the way of friendly relations between US and the Muslim world and urged the young students to contribute to the debate in a positive way through writing and using social media, and taking part in student exchanges.

Earlier, Dr Noor Fatima welcomed the distinguished guest and apprised the audience about the works and contributions of Marriam Ahmed in the field of interfaith harmony. Dr. Zaitoon Begum, in her vote of thanks appreciated the lecture and termed it a step towards bridging the gap between Muslim world and America. At the end, followers were presented to distinguished guest on the behalf of the university.

International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) organized Prize Distribution Ceremony of Annual Sports 2013 at Female Campus of the university. Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President IIUI as chief guest presided over the ceremony while, Director female campus of IIUI Dr. Zaitoon Baghim, Student Advisor female Dr. Munza Yaqoob, faculty members of different departments and large number of students were also present on the occasion. In his address, President, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh said that IIU always committed to facilitate female students by all the means in respect for all curricular, co curricular and sports activities. He said that apart from the books, healthy sports activities are necessary for the nourishment of human body and mind as well.

He appreciated the active and large number of participation of the students in annual sports gala. He ensured the students to consider upon the demands of female campus regarding, the availability of sports instructors, instruments, and all necessary sports equipments for different games. Dr. Draiweesh advised the students” being Muslim women you should ensure your possible efforts to make your life according to the golden tenets of Islam”. President also applauded the struggles of the organizer of the sports gala to make it successful; he also thanked to give such honor as chief guest.

On the occasion, in her address Director female campus Dr. Zaitoon thanked to worthy President to spare some precious time to grace the ceremony. She further said “in addition to formal education of books, activities like cultural sports, athletics are the very foundation to enhance the hidden capabilities of the students”. She stressed the students upon the need to take part in healthy activities of sports actively.

Earlier Dr. Munazza Yaqoob briefed the participants about the whole activities of Sports Competition in detail. At the end, President of IIUI Dr. Ahmed Draiweesh distributed prizes among the position holders, apart from the prizes of team events, individual medals were also distributed among the best players. Faiza Rehman student of BS from faculty of Usuluddin IIUI secured the distinction of best athlete of the year 2013.

IIUI HOLDS SEMINAR ON “INTELLECTUAL DIMENSIONS OF HAZRAT SULTAN BAHOO & INTERNATIONAL PEACE”
Chairman Muslim Institute Sahibzada Sultan Ahmed Ali has said human beings have trapped themselves in destruction by creating lethal weapons and differences among each other and solution of this problem is in adopting the teachings of Sufis. These views he expressed while addressing a seminar titled “ Intellectual Dimensions of Hazrat Sultan Bahoo and International Peace” which was jointly organized by Iqbal International Institute for Research & Dialogue International Islamic University (IIUI) and Muslim Institute on Tuesday at Faisal Mosque campus of the university. Federal Secretary, Ministry of National Heritage and Integration Gul Muhammad Rind, Vice President IIUI (academic) Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed, renowned scholars from all over the country and a large number of students were also present on the occasion.

Sahibzada Sultan Ahmed said that Hazrat Sultan Bahoo taught about humanity and purgation of soul and added that message of Sultan Bahoo was promotion of peace. He said Hazrat Sultan Bahoo introduced people with the ways of servicing society.

Dr Mumtaz Ahmed, in his address said that sufis of sub-continent have vital contribution in introducing people with social justice, human rights and purification of soul, they preached to promote peace and discourage intolerance. While referring to current situation of country he said “Peace is our urgent need, for peace justice is the perquisite and for promotion of both features we should adopt the message of Hazrat Bahoo and other respected sufis, which is message of peace, humanity, equality and love He hoped the seminar would open new horizons for the promotion of peace.

Dr Gul Muhammad Rind also spoke on the occasion and paid tribute to Sufis for their services for Islam. He urged the youth to preach the message of peace in the world in the light of the teachings of Sufis. Dr Abdul Basit Mujahid, Mussarat Yousuf and Jameel Qalandar delivered precious lectures on the topic which were duly appreciated by the audience.

DR AL-DRAIWEESH URGES TO TAKE GUIDANCE FROM HOLY QURAN IN PSYCHOLOGY
Implementation of Islamic teachings in practical life is best cure of psychological diseases and Quran is a vital source of guidance in this regard, psychologists should explore the aspects related to subject, discussed in the Holy Book. These views were expressed by President International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh at the concluding ceremony of four-day workshop on “ Qualitative Research in Psychology” organized by Psychology department of IIUI. Resource Person of the workshop Dr. Ghazala Rehman, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences Dr. Nabi Bux Jumani, Head department of Psychology, Dr. Muhammad Tahir Khalili, Acting Chairperson (Female) Dr. Seema Gul and large number of students attended the ceremony.

Dr Al-Draiweesh said that psychological diseases are one of the rapid growing problems faced by human beings, that is why universities globally paying special attention to strengthen their departments of Psychology, same is the objective of IIUI and current workshop is a step towards making its psychology department an advanced one. He was of the view that students should equip themselves with modern and Islamic knowledge which would lead them towards the highest peak of profession. The president stressed on the need for arranging such workshops with consistency in future. He said university would continue taking steps for providing a milieu of research to the students.

Dr. Ghazala Rehman, a renowned researcher and clinical psychologist who was the guest speaker, also spoke on the occasion and termed this workshop as a foundation of advancement in the field of qualitative research in psychology in Pakistan. She said youth are future of country and passion of the participants is an omen of bright future. Dr. Nabi Baux Jummani in his speech said that there is dire need of qualitative research in Asia and added that participants of the workshop were lucky to avail the opportunity. He vowed that such workshops by Faculty of Social Sciences would be arranged in future with consistency.

Dr Tahir Khalili and Dr Seema Gul in their speeches, thanked the president for taking keen interest in the research based activities of the university. At the end, shield to Dr. Ghazala Rehman and certificates to the participants of the workshops were presented.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR HEC CALLS ON DR. AL-DRAIWEESH
President International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) Dr Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh and Executive Director Higher Education Commission (HEC) Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed (HEC) on Friday, in their meeting at IIUI, discussed matters pertaining to promotion of education and agreed to formulate a consortium of vice chancellors of Islamic Universities for strong educational ties among countries of Ummah. In order to materialize this proposal HEC will call a meeting of the Vice Chancellors of the Muslim Universities in near future. On the Occasion, The President IIUI gave a brief introduction of university to HEC Executive Director and apprised about the development and future vision of IIUI. He said IIUI needs cooperation in promotion of quality education and production of highly skilled personalities. He said Imam Muhammad Bin Saud University, Saudi Arabia always extends its cooperation with IIUI and added that a special committee has been formed which keenly focuses on the requirements and progress of university.

Dr Mukhtar Ahmed, while lauding the role of IIUI said “IIUI is one of the leading quality institutions in Pakistan and it has a potential of becoming a high quality international university”. He said HEC would provide every possible cooperation to IIUI in order to achieve its worthy objectives. He admired the role of Dr-Al-Draiweesh for his struggle to make IIUI a real international institute.

2-DAY INTL. CONFERENCE ON PROBLEMS OF QURAN’S TRANSLATION IN THE SUBCONTINENT” CONCLUDES
A Two Day International Conference on “Problems of Quran’s Translation in the Subcontinent” organized by International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) concluded at Faisal Masjid Campus of university, in which national and international scholars agreed on the point that an international institution for Quranic translation should be established which would work in different languages and arrange a network for discussion among the various Islamic scholars. Saudi Cultural Attaché to Pakistan Hazza Al-Ghamidi was the chief guest of the concluding ceremony while it was presided over by President IIUI Dr Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh. Ambassador of Bosnia to Pakistan, Armin Limo, Iranian Deputy Cultural Counsellor to Pakistan, Ali Dosti, Director General of academies of university and deans of various faculties attended the ceremony. Large number of male and female students was also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Hazza Al-Ghamidi said that IIUI was established on the basis of piety and brotherhood and now it is center of attention for whole world. He lauded the progress and contribution of the university in education and termed it as one of the leading quality educational centers in the world. While expressing his views about the conference he said conference on an important and a sacred topic is an appreciable step and its recommendations and discussions would pave the way for accurate and exact translation of the Quranic verses. He stressed on the need for holding such conferences in future.

President IIUI Dr-Al-Draiweesh in his address said that recommendations will be practically applied and IIUI would keep contributing in the field of translation of Quran in the light of recommendation of the conference. While thanking international scholars for participating in conference he said their participation provided an opportunity to students to broaden their vision in particular field. He said Islam is religion of peace and students being the asset of Muslim Ummah should disseminate it to the world. He urged the Islamic scholars and students to play their role for image building of Muslims.

Earlier, Dr Sohail Hassan Deputy Director General of IRI, IIUI presented the recommendations of the conference which included that Islamic countries should establish a center for Quranic translation and a department of same nature should be launched in the university. The participants recommended that conferences on the same topic should be organized in future and courses should be offered on research level regarding the principles of translation. It was also recommended that students must be given opportunity to take classes of Quranic translation in their degrees.

At the end, exchange of souvenirs took place and shields were given to the participant scholars of the conference. Scholars from Algeria, India, Morocco, Egypt, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and across the country participated in the two-day conference and delivered their lecturers and took part in discussions during the conference.

PRESIDENT IIUI CALLS ON MINISTER FOR HRD & OVERSEAS PAKISTANIS
President International Islamic university (IIUI) Dr Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh called on Care Taker (C/T) Federal Minister for Human Resource Development and Overseas Pakistanis, Feroz Jamal Shah Kakakhel on Thursday and discussed issues pertaining to mutual interests.

The President IIUI and C/T Federal Minister both agreed to sign an MoU about providing technical education to the employees of the ministry. Speaking on the occasion, Dr-Al-Draiweesh said IIUI would provide every possible educational support to the employees of the Ministry. He said university would provide special attention to the students of Baluchistan in the regard of technical education. The President IIUI also briefed the Minister about the objectives and development of the university.

C/T Minister Feroz Jamal Shah lauded the role of IIUI in promotion of education and desired that IIU School for overseas Pakistanis in Saudi Arabia should be established, on which president assured him every possible support from his side. The C/T Federal Minster said Pakistan feels always proud of its close relations with Saudi Arabia. President IIUI invited C/T Minister to visit the university that he accepted.
