DELEGATION OF ISLAMIC EDUCATION COLLEGE OF CHINA VISITS IIUI
A 12- member Chinese delegation of Xida Islamic Education College Honghe prefecture, Yunan province, headed by President of collage, Mohammad Hussain called on Professor Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al Draiweesh, President, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) on Thursday and discussed issues pertaining to mutual interests. Dr. Saeed ul Hassan Chishti, Project Director Institute of Professional Development was also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al Draiweesh said IIUI wishes to diversify its bilateral ties with Chinese educational institutions and in this regard MoUs will be signed for exchange of delegations of student and faculty members between the both countries. He said a large number of Chinese students getting education at IIUI in different disciplines including science subjects and Islamic Shariah and university is committed to provide them all possible facilities for providing them quality education.

He assured that problems of the Chinese students at IIUI will be solved on priority bases. Dr. Al Draiweesh said university is keenly focusing for providing quality education to its students and educate them according to contemporary requirements.

While thanking President IIUI, the delegation said their visit aims at expanding the inter university relations between two countries and they want to make a base for bilateral cooperation in the fields of education and research. Later, delegation visited the central library and various faculties of the university. President IIUI also presented the souvenirs to the members of delegation.

IIUI HOLDS SEMINAR ON “ARABIC LANGUAGE AND ITS NEED IN ISLAMIC SOCIETIES”
25th cultural week and silver jubilee celebrations of the International University, Islamabad (IIUI) are in full swing and in this regard a seminar titled ” Arabic Language and its need in Islamic Societies” was held by Faculty of Arabic Language of the university, here on Thursday. Senior teachers of the faculty including Adil Akrat, Muhammad Ali Ghori spoke on the subject while teachers and large number of students attended the seminar.

Speaking on the occasion, Adil Akrat said Arabic is the language of Quran and it is also a symbol of unity among the Muslim Ummah. He said we should promote research in Arabic language which will help our youth to explore about the Islamic language.

Mugammad Ali Ghori also addressed to seminar and stressed upon the need to promote Arabic language in Islamic societies which will bring the countries of Ummah closer. At the end, participants asked questions from the speakers regarding the topic.

IIUI HOLDS SEMINAR ON “TRENDS IN PHYSICS”
Department of Physics of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) in connection with 25th Cultural Week & Silver Jubilee Celebrations, organized a seminars on “Trends in Physics ” at Central Library of the university. Prof. Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed, Vice President (Academics) was the chief guest on the occasion while faculty members and large number of students attended the seminar.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed said that to excel in the field of science is one of the leading objectives of IIUI, seminars like this will help us to achieve our goals. He said such activities give opportunity to students to broaden their vision in the subject and explore the new ways of development in this discipline.

He appreciated the efforts of faculty members of Physics Dept. and urged them to keep expanding their interaction with other universities of the country. He thanked the guest speakers for specially coming in the seminar. Earlier Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed, University of Malakand, Dr. Syed Shahid Ali, Foreign Professor HEC, and Dr. Tajamul Husssain, Director National Centre for Physics (NCP) gave their presentation on important topics related to Physics. They stressed upon conducting more seminars regarding the topics of physics.

25TH CULTURAL ACTIVITIES STARTS AT FEMALE CAMPUS
First Lady Mrs. Nusrt Pervez Ashraf has said educated women of a nation lead it towards the destinations of prosperity and development and no society can achieve the goal of progress in the absence of role of women. She was addressing to inaugural ceremony of 25th Cultural Week and Silver Jubilee celebrations of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) in (Female) campus on Wednesday. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al Draiweesh, President IIUI, Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed, Vice President IIUI and Ambassadors of various Muslim countries were also present on the occasion.

She said it is our religion Islam which 1400 years earlier gave the due rights to women and allowed them to contribute for the betterment of society. Mrs. Nusrt Pervez said that today west pretends itself champion of women rights while it is Islam which honoured the women with respect centuries ago. She said organized nations achieve the height of glory and today’s organized ceremony and preparations of IIUI female cultural week reveal that we are an organized nation which is heading towards destination of success.

While congratulating the IIUI administration for successfully organizing the mega event, Nusrat Pervez said IIUI is a unique institution which brings the Muslim countries on a single plate form and gives opportunities to their students for promotion of their cultures. Earlier, in his welcome remarks President IIUI Ahmad Yousif Al Draiweesh said female students of IIUI deserve appreciation for their dynamic role in this Cultural Week and Silver Jubilee celebrations. He said it is a prerequisite for the development of society that women must be given opportunities to play their role in progress of society.

He said IIUI keenly focuses on education of women and in this regard separate campus for them is visible example. He said IIUI is biggest and unique institution in the country which has established not only separate campus for female but through educating Islamic values it also develops balanced and harmonious women personalities which may compete to the contemporary challenges. He urged Muslim Ummah that education of women must be their top priority because it is one of the leading solutions of contemporary problems faced by Muslims.

He added that the theme of this years’ Cultural Week is “Youth and National Leadership” and in this regard nobody can negate the importance of women, that is why IIUI always strive for quality education of its female students. He urged female students to devote themselves for education and develop their lives according to the teachings of Islam. He said presence of Ambassadors of more than 40 Muslim countries shows that Muslim Ummah is united and IIUI is thankful to the dignitaries for coming in the mega event of university.

Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed Vice President IIUI also addressed to the ceremony and said IIUI is proud of its female students, they have proved that women are real power of nation. He appreciated the role of female campus in successful organization of mega event and stressed up on the need of hard work to make the image of IIUI brighter.

Dr. Zaitoon Begum, Director (Female Campus) & Incharge Students Affairs, Dr. Munazza Yaqoob thanked the President IIUI and dignitaries for attending the ceremony and briefed the participants of ceremony about the activities of mega event. At the end, shields were presented to chief guest, President IIUI and Vice President IIUI.

Later, Dr Al Draiweesh inaugurated a photo exhibition titled “History of Islamic Arts & Culture in Subcontinent”. President IIUI also visited all the stalls at world cultural exhibition which were set up by the students of different countries. It is worth mentioning that the activity of the cultural week are in full swing and in this regard competitions of Robo Race & Flying –Striker, Gaming and Software, Book Fair and Bait Bazi contest took place in male campus while in the female campus sports galla also started on March 27.

   
IIUI HOLDS SEMINAR ON “CAUSES & PREVENTIONS OF EXTREMISM”
In connection with 25th Cultural Week & Silver Jubilee Celebrations, Faculty of Shariah & Law (FSL) of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) organized seminar on “Causes & Preventions of Extremism” at university yesterday. Dr. Zia ul Haq, Dean FSL presided over the ceremony while IIUI faculty members belonging Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Palestine also spoke on the occasion. Dr. Zafar Ullah Baigh, Dean Faculty of Islamic Studies, including large number of students attended the seminar.

Saudi teacher Dr. Ahmed Zamzami while addressing to the seminar identified meaning of extremism, its various dimensions especially elaborated about religious extremism. Palestinian teacher Dr. Abdullah Rizk explained phenomena of extremism in Muslim societies and its causes while Dr. Sohail Hassan of Islamic Research Institute (IRI) of the University explained the national and international obligations regarding prevention of extremism.

Dr. Muhammad Tahir Hakeem, Chairman Dept. of Shariah highlighted the role of universities to prevent the extremism. Participants showed keen interest in the subject and raised various queries to the speakers.

IIUI 25TH CULTURAL WEEK & SILVER JUBILEE ACTIVITIES IN FULL SWING
The 25th Annual Cultural Week and Silver Jubilee celebrations of International Islamic University (IIUI) are in full swing. In this connection in female campus of the university “Cultural Evening”, “Dress Show” will be held on March 28 (Thursday) while prize distribution ceremony (Female) will be held on March 5 in which wife of Ambassador of Saudi Arabia in Pakistan Mrs. Jouhra Abdullah Al-Arifi shall be the chief guest on the occasion. While in the male campus Seminars and Cultural Night will be held at March 28, 2013.

Department of Physics of the International Islamic University, Islamabad is organizing a series of seminars on “Trends in Physics”, on March 28, 2013 at 10:00 am, at Seminar Room, Central Library of the university. Prof. Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed, Vice President (Academics) shall be the chief guest on the occasion.

IIUI CULTURAL WEEK KICKS OFF
Ambassador of Indonesia in Pakistan, Burhan Mohammad has said International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) is one of the unique centers of learning in the world and it is an honour for me to be the chief guest of its splendid cultural event. He said IIUI is playing a vital role to bring the courtiers of Ummah together and in this regard efforts of university administration and faculties are admirable.

This he said while inaugurating the 25th Annual Cultural Week and Silver Jubilee celebrations of International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) on Tuesday. Burhan Mohammad said there is dire need of vast educational ties between Muslim countries because survival of developing countries now relies upon education. He also assured all possible support from Indonesia to IIUI.

Ambassador of Sudan in Pakistan, Al-Shafey Ahmed Mohammed, Prof. Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, Rector IIUI, Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President IIUI, Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed, Vice President (Academics) IIUI, Matloob Inqalabi, AJK Education Minister, Dr. Safeer Awan, Students Advisor (Male), diplomats and delegations from various countries were present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion in his welcome remarks, Prof. Dr. Masoom Yasinzai said that IIUI is playing a key role in promotion of education with a unique vision among 130 universities of the country. He said Muslim Ummah has a great power of youth and if we put them on right track according to our religious values and current needs then this power can change the world. He urged Muslim countries that education of youth should be their top priority. He said top priority of IIUI is to develop balanced and harmonious personalities which may compete to the contemporary challenges. “Preparing high quality professionals integrated with teachings of Islam is core objective of our university” IIUI Rector said.

Dr. Masoom said IIUI keenly focuses to create an environment according to teachings of Islam and contemporary needs and this unique objective lets the institution to develop skilled, professional personalities who own appropriate knowledge of Islamic values as well. He added that IIUI equally gives opportunities of learning and education to male and female students and particularly appreciates participation of the female students to give them proper chance for development of society. He thanked Muslim countries for their active participation in the event and urged them to keep taking interest in IIUI.

Earlier, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh while addressing the inaugural ceremony of cultural week said that IIUI is a prestigious center of knowledge with an objective to strengthen youth with power of education. While briefing about the mega event, Dr. Al Draiweesh said theme of this year’s cultural week is “Youth and National Leadership” and in this regard IIUI not only launched special activities in its campus but other universities of capital are also part of this mega event, where activities are continued. He said mega event equally granting opportunity to female students to prove their abilities and talent in all aspects of life.

He said IIUI is devoted to promote peace and brotherhood and its doors are open for all. “Along with Islamic education, IIUI is giving education in all fields including math, social sciences, science subjects and computer technology”. Dr. Al Draiweesh said. He stressed upon the students to refrain from violence and extremism. He said students should adopt the way of moderation as it leads to the right path, a path which is given by the Almighty. IIUI president said it is a positive sign by watching students of Muslim countries under one roof and together.

At the end of ceremony, shields were presented to the dignitaries of various countries.

   
   
25TH CULTURAL WEEK
The 25th Annual Cultural Week and Silver Jubilee celebrations of International Islamic University (IIUI) in female campus will start on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at 11:00 am. The students “Cultural Evening”, “Dress Show” in this connection will be held on March 28 while prize distribution ceremony (Female) will be held on March 5 in which wife of Ambassador of Saudi Arabia in Pakistan Mrs. Jouhra Abdullah Al-Arifi shall be the chief guest on the occasion.

IIUI CULTURAL WEEK & SILVER JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS TO START ON MARCH 26
25th Cultural Week, International Cultural Exhibition and Silver Jubilee celebrations of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) will start on March 26, 2013 at New Campus (Male), Sector H-10, Islamabad. H.E Burhan Muhammad, Ambassador of Indonesia in Pakistan being chief guest will inaugurate the ceremony while Prof. Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, Rector IIUI, shall preside over the said ceremony. Ambassadors of Islamic countries and other dignitaries will attend the inaugural session. Delegations of faculty members and students from various universities of the Saudi Arabia as well as Pakistan will participate in the event especially.

The theme of the 25th Cultural Week is “Youth and National Leadership”. The event aims to highlight lifestyle and traditions of different Islamic and Non-Islamic students of IIUI belonging to different countries. Students of above 42 countries are taking part in these activities. These students will bring out culture and traditions of their country with the help of dresses, poetry, painting, photography, cooking and literature. In particular, students from Saudi Arabia, Iran, United Arab Emirates, China, Afghanistan, Africa, SAARC countries and ASIAN countries will setup stalls to highlight their culture. The university has invited different brands and traders to advertise their products. Families from the twin cities are also invited to participate in the event.

These celebrations include seminars, lectures, conferences & competitions of Qirat, Naat, Debates, Essay writing, Arabic Calligraphy exhibition and book fair for male and female which have already been started in both campuses. The Grand Mushaira will be held on April 05, 2013, in which renowned poets of the twin cities will recite their poetry. The opening ceremony of the cultural week in the female campus will be held on March 27, 2013. Prize distribution ceremonies for male and females for position holders will be held on March 29 and April 05 respectively.

IIUI ANNUAL SPORTS GALA 2013 KICKS OFF
The 25th Annual Cultural Week of International Islamic University (IIUI) is being celebrated as the part of the university Silver Jubilee celebrations this year. Sports Gala of the university in this connection was inaugurated by Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President IIUI here on Monday.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of Sports Gala, Dr. Al-Draiweesh announced that football ground of the university will be established according to the international standards. He said by providing a platoform to our students will help them to represent their institution at international level. He said IIUI wants it’s every student as an example of success and university will take every possible measure to provide facilities to the students in this regard. “Success of cultural week is success of IIUI”, Dr. Al-Draiweesh said. He urged students and faculty members to devote their selves for success of the event and termed it as an image building opportunity for the institution.

He said we have an objective to produce the skilled and intelligent minds who will meet the international standards of the education in every part of life. He said efforts of the university administration and teachers are admirable in this regard. He advised the students to utilize their time and work with zeal and devotion for the betterment of IIUI and Pakistan. He said all students including Pakistani and foreign are his top priority and they will be dealt equally. He assured that scholarships will be provided to the bright students not only in IIUI but in international universities also. IIUI president said faculty members and students will always find him available whenever they will need guidance and cooperation. He also announced special trophies will be awarded to winning faculties of sports gala. He hoped this event will be memorable in the University of IIUI.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh offered special thanks to the delegation of the Imam Muhammad Bin Saud University, Saudi Arabia for participating in the cultural week. Earlier, in their welcome remarks Dean Faculty of Language and Literature Munawar Ahmed Gondal and Sport office, Manzoor Hussain Shah thanked the President IIUI for his keen interest in the cultural week activities and hoped this event will help to bring the students of different countries closer.

LECTURE SERIES ON SEERAH STARTS AT IRI
Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) has said that we should follow the actions and teachings of Holy Prophet (PBUH) as his life is an example for the Muslims. He was addressing to a lecture series on Seerat un Nabi, by Dr. Muhammad Yasin Mazhar Siddiqui, organized by Islamic Research Institute (IRI) of the university.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh welcomed that guest speaker Dr Yasin and hoped participants of the lecture will get answers of their unsolved questions. While talking about the contemporary problems faced by Ummah, he said we should get guidance from the life of Holy Prophet for the solution of our problems. He urged the participants of lecture to introduce the teachings of Holy Prophet (PBUH) to the world and preach His message of peace. He emphasized on the students who are working on Seerat un Nabi books that they should keep the importance of research, verification and authenticity in mind.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Muhammad Yasin Mazhar Siddiqui apprised the participants about the lives and works of the different authors of Seerat un Nabi. He discussed in detail about the evolution of Seerat and contemporary situation of it. He will deliver next lecture of the series on Tuesday at 2:30 pm at Fiasal masjid Campus.

It is pertinent to mention that Muhammad Yasin Mazhar Siddiqui is famous for his work on Seerat writing in Urdu, English and Arabic. He wrote more than 20 books and many research paper on the aforesaid topic. He is P.hd from Aligarh University, India where he has also served as head of department of Islamic knowledge.

FSL HOLDS SEMINAR ON “CONTENTS OF NIKAHNAMA”
In connection with 25th Cultural Week and Silver Jubilee celebration of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI), the Faculty of Shariah & Law of the University, has organized a seminar on “Contents of Nikahnama” for the students of university and especially for the students of Faculty of Shariah & Law. Anila Ateeq, Advocate Supreme Court of Pakistan, Mrs. Noreen Chattha, Advocate High Courts, Amina Banno, Advocate High Court, Samia Maqbool, Chairperson were the main speakers on the occasion while Dr. Muhammad Zia Ul Haq, Dean Faculty of Shariah & Law and Mrs. Naseem Razi, Assistant Professor were also present on the occasion.

Anila Ateeq, Advocate Supreme Court of Pakistan, highlighted importance of registration of Nikahnama. She further suggested that columns should be introduced showing the dowry received by bride along with list of articles and separate column showing the worth of bridal gifts along with list of items.

Mrs. Noreen Chattha, Advocate High Courts who has spent more than a decade in courts and have practical experience, spoke about lacunas in Nikahnama. She said considering the magnitude of the various issues gripping women in courts, Pakistan needs to amend contents of Nikahnama. She suggested to young girls to fill their Nikahanam themselves with proper CNIC number.

The second session was followed by the group of panelists. The panel discussion started by the moderator, Amina Banno, Advocate High Court. Twenty panelists initiated discussion and answered to students’ questions. Dean Faculty of Shariah & Law, Dr. Muhammed Zia Ul Haq and Chairperson, Samia Maqbool thanked the speakers for their valuable time and their contribution towards enlightening students with practical knowledge.

The seminar began with an introduction by the moderator, Sehrish Saba Raja. Mrs. Naseem Razi, Assistant Professor, who spoke to the audience about the provisions of Nikahnama in the light of Quran and Sunnah.

“SEMINAR ON WOMEN RIGHTS, UN RESOLUTION AND ISLAMIC SHARIAH”
In connection with 25th Cultural Week Activities and Silver Jubilee Celebrations Female Student of Activity Centre of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI ) has organized a Lecture on” Women Rights, UN resolution and Islamic Shariah “ in the Female Campus Auditorium of the university. Dr Prof. Zia UL Haq Dean Faculty of “Shariah and Law “ and Ms. Shaughta Umar , Incharge Dawah Centre for Woman (DCW) deliver the lectures on the subject.

Talking on the Women rights the speakers said that the men and women has the equal legal capacity without any gender discrimination. They further emphasized that there is dire need to work for the protection of Women rights and give her status in the society.

6 MEMBERS DELEGATION ARRIVES ISLAMABAD TO ATTEND 25TH CULTURAL WEEK ACTIVITIES
A six members delegation headed by Saeed Gheesan Ahmed Al-Shimrani from Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic Univeristy, Riyad, Saudi Arabia arrived Islamabad yesterday to participate in the 25th Annual Cultural Week & Silver Jubilee celebrations of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI). Other members of the delegation including Naif Saad Muhamed Al-Ghamidi, Majid Abdul Aziz Ali Al-Hamid, Muhamed Yahya Ali Al-Azizi, Hasam Salim Moeez Al-Sabiti and Mohamed Khalid Muhamed Al-Khalifa. The delegation will visit various faculties, sciences laboratories and libraries of the university. Remember that ambassadors of Islamic countries and other dignitaries are likely to attend these celebration.

VIVA VOCE IN RESPECT OF PROF. AHSAN UR REHMAN
The viva voce examination in respect of Prof. Ahsan ur Rehman, a PhD English scholar is scheduled to be held on 29.03.2013 at 03.00 p.m. vide Notification No.IIU-Exams/2013-5673 dated 25.03.2013, in the Seminar Room, Faculty of Shariah and Law, Faculty Block I, of the university. The title of his research is ‘Morpho Phonemic Patterns in the Prefixed Chapters of the Holy Qur’an: A Stylistic Approach’.

PHYSICS DEPARTMENT ORGANIZES SEMINAR ON “PLASMA CATALYSIS AND ITS APPLICATIONS”
The Department of Physics of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) has organized a seminar on “Plasma Catalysis and Its Applications” in the university. Dr. Z. I. Mujahid, who did his PhD from Queen University Belfast, UK and currently working in the University of Antwerp, Belgium was the guest speaker on the occasion while Dr. Sher Muhammad, Dean Faculty of Basic & Applied Sciences, Dr. Javaid I Saggu, Acting Chairperson Dept. of Physics, IIUI and Dr. Shaisata Shehzada, Dept. of Physics (Female) IIU including large number of students attended the seminar.

Dr. Z.I. Mujahid gave his lecture from the fundamental to advance level in the field of Plasma Catalysis. He told that plasma catalysis gives a simple solution for the hydrocarbon fuel conversion and environmental problems.

Students of BS, M. Sc, M.S & Ph. D showed their interest in the seminar by asking many questions to the speaker. Dr. Muhammad Sher thanked the speaker and presented a shield to him from the Faculty of Basic and Applied Sciences. At the end, Dr. Javed Iqbal Saggu thanked the speaker for his brief explanation of such a complicated scientific issue and said that this kind of events shall also be organize in futures.

Islamic Research Institute to hold khutbat e Seerat
The Islamic research institute of the International Islamic University is holding a series of lectures on Seerah writings by a renowned scholar Dr. Muhammad Yaseen Mazhar Siddiqui from Aligarh Muslim University, India from March 25 to 29, 2013. The lecture series shall be held at Faisal Masjid campus of the IIUI.

First Lecture shall be held on March 25, at 11 am, while lectures on 26, 27 and 29 March shall be held at 2:30 pm. The concluding lecture of this series shall be held on March 29, 2013 at 11 am at the same venue.

DR. JUMANI APPOINTED AS “EDITOR TO EDITORIAL BOARD OF THE ASIAN JOURNAL OF DISTANCE EDUCATION”
Professor Dr. Nabi Bux Jumani, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences of the International Islamic University, Islamabad has been Appointed as “Editor to the Editorial Board of the Asian journal of Distance Education”.

استقبل معالي الأستاذ الدكتور أحمد بن يوسف الدريويش رئيس الجامعة الإسلامية العالمية في إسلام آباد السيد زهانج يانجبا المستشار الثقافي الصيني يوم الأربعاء الموافق 21/3/2013م. تناول اللقاء مجمل العلاقات الثلاثية السعودية-الصينية- الباكستانية. قال معالي الدكتور الدريويش إن نحو 600 طالب وطالبة من الصين يدرسون حاليا في الجامعة مؤكدا على ضرورة تيسير أمور نحو (100) طالب وطالبة الذين لا يزالون ينتظرون في الصين للقدوم إلى الجامعة الإسلامية العالمية في إسلام آباد. وبحث الطرفان سبل التعاون ولاسيما إمكانية توقيع مذكرة تفاهم لتبادل زيارات الأساتذة والطلاب بين الجامعة الإسلامية العالمية والجامعات العريقة في الصين إلى جانب بحث إمكانية فتح قسم اللغة الصينية في الجامعة الإسلامية في أقرب فرصة ممكنة على أن يبدأ دبلوم اللغة الصينية مبدئيا وفي المرحلة الثانية يبدأ بكالوريوس اللغة الصينية. ومن المتوقع أنه سيأتي أستاذان صينيان زائران إلى الجامعة كجزء من المبادرة في هذا المضمار. وبدوره شكر المستشار الثقافي الصيني السيد زهانج بانجيا معالي رئيس الجامعة مؤكدا استعداده لتقديم كل التعاون الممكن للجامعة الإسلامية العالمية في إسلام آباد. هذا وقدم معالي رئيس الجامعة درعا تذكاريا للمستشار الثقافي الصيني مثمنا معاليه الدور الذي يقوم به الأخير في تعزيز التعاون الثقافي بين البلدين.

CHINESE CULTURAL COUNSELOR CALLS ON DR. AL-DRAIWEESH
Zhang Yiung Pao, Cultural Counselor of China in Pakistan called on Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) in his office yesterday. On his arrival Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif warmly welcomed the distinguished guest and exchanged views on matters of mutual interests and also discussed need for cooperation in the areas of research and education between IIUI and Universities of China and Saudi Arabia.

While talking on the occasion Dr. Al-Draiweesh said that about 600 male and female Chinese students are studying in this university and are getting quality education of Islamic as well as modern sciences. He said that IIUI gives equal importance to both Islamic and modern disciplines. He added that IIU pays special attention to train its students according to the teachings of Islam and discouraging negative trends such as violence and extremism.

He informed that IIU wants to establish “Chinese Language Department” in the university and initially one year diploma program of Chinese Language will be introduced and services of two senior teachers will also be hired from China, later on the said program will be upgraded up to graduation level.

Zhang Yiung Pao assured full cooperation regarding establishment of said department in the university. He said that IIUI is playing vital role to provide quality education and its scope is not just confined to Pakistan but whole Muslim Ummah is its beneficiary. Dr. Al-Draiweesh presented IIUI souvenir to the distinguished guest, on this occasion.

DR. AL-DRAIWEESH URGES MEDIA TO KEEP DISSEMINATING TRUE FACTS
Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) has said that higher educational institutions play vital role in bright future of nations and IIU is one of those prestigious institutions which are providing religious and contemporary education at a time. IIUI is not serving only Pakistan but whole Muslim Ummah. This was said while briefing the media persons regarding IIU objectives and achievements and upcoming Annual Cultural Week Activities, on Thursday. Prof. Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad, Vice President (Academics) IIUI, Dr. Munawar Iqbal Gondal, Dean Faculty of Language & Literature, IIUI including deans of different faculties and heads of various departments were also present on the occasion.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh said establishment of educational atmosphere, promotion of peace and brotherhood is our main priority. “IIU is committed to curb the menace of violence and extremism to make the environment of university free of sectarianism” he added. President IIUI said the study of students of 57 countries under one roof proves there is no room for discrimination in this university. He said university is mulling to establish a medical college and a huge hospital to provide best health facilities to the students and employees of IIUI. Dr. Al-Draiweesh said that IIU is keenly emphasizing on improvement of research which is the need of hour. He added that women are integral part of the society and IIUI gives core importance to its female students, building of separate campus for them is visible example.

He said IIUI is taking special measures to expand educational ties with foreign universities and recent MoU with Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University is part of these measures. He urged media to play its role for promotion of education and it should disseminate news based on facts. While briefing about the “Annual Cultural Week” activities of the university he said that journalists should give special coverage to these events because it is a source of bringing the international cultures together in which students of various countries will display their traditional & cultural heritage.

DR. AL-DRAIWEESH STRESSES ON KEEPING CHILDREN AWAY FROM NEGATIVE ATTITUDES
Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) has said children are future power and vital asset of Muslim Ummah, our success depends upon them therefore their training should be our first priority. He was addressing to the annual ceremony of IIUI School, Westridge Campus Rawalpindi at the Faisal Masjid Campus of the university. He said that we are committed to strengthen IIUI Schools so that this great asset of the Muslim Ummah will be trained according to the teachings of Islam. He urged teachers that they should pay special attention to make children successful in their lives not only as a good citizen but as good Muslim because the success of whole Muslim Ummah depends upon them.

Referring to the contemporary problems faced by the Muslim Ummah he said that it is our prime responsibility to keep the children away from the negative attitudes such as violence and extremism. He urged the teachers to promote characteristic of confidence in the children and for this, they should focus on co-curricular activities. He also announced that parents and teachers can share their problems and assured speedy resolution of problems.

YOUTH IS PLAYING VITAL ROLE TO RESOLVE CONTEMPORARY PROBLEMS FACED BY MUSLIM UMMAH; DR. AL-DRAIWEESH
In connection with 25th Cultural Week Activities, the International Islamic University, Islamabad has organized second seminar on “Protection of Youth from Intellectual Deviation” at Ibn-e-Khaldoon Block, of the university, Yesterday. Prof. Dr. Nabeel-al-Fouli, Faculty of Islamic Studies and Dr. Ikram ul Haq of Shariah Academy delivered lectures on the topic.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ikram ul Haq said that role of youth is very important in the progress and prosperity of the society and they should play their role to resolve the contemporary issues faced by the Muslim Ummah. He said that when a Muslim follows religion with sincerity, Allah helps him.

Dr. Nabeel-al-Fouli said youth should draw their attention to seek knowledge and must change their lives according to the teachings of Islam so that they may play their role to overcome the problems of the society. He said that lack of knowledge and imposing of views on other are the root cause of all social problems and this attitude is totally repugnant to Quran and Sunnah. He said that youth should study Islam in depth and by doing so they would be able to eradicate false propaganda against Islam. He said that continue study and company of senior teachers is essential to improve the knowledge about Islam. Dr. Nabeel-al-Fouli said that we should proud to be a Muslim because we are the Ummah which is chosen by Allah to Preach Islam.

FACULTY MEMBERS AND STUDENTS SHOW CONFIDENCE ON LEADERSHIP OF DR. AL-DRAIWEESH
Faculty members and students of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) in a joint statement have expressed their confidence in the leadership of Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh, the sitting President of IIUI and expressed the hope that the university will excel in the fields of education and research under his dynamic leadership. Before joining IIUI, Dr. Al-Draiweesh was serving in Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia as educationist and administrator in the university. He is known for his services in the field of education.

In a joint statement, it is stated that, establishment of educational and research based atmosphere is a key example of his interest in the progress of IIUI. Recent inauguration of long awaited building for Mechanical Engineering department, Central Mosque and residential colony for staff members are just a start towards providing facilities to staff and students of the university. Dr. Al-Draiweesh has already announced 300 scholarships for the brilliant students and prizes for the teachers with significant performance. Teachers & students of the university have welcome these steps and hoped this process will remain continue in the future.

According to the statement, appointment of Dr. Al-Draiweesh has open new ways of strong relations between IIU and universities of Saudi Arabia. Various delegations from different faculties and departments of IIUI have visited Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University recently to observe their educational system to get benefit from their experiences.

Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University has shown keen interest in providing financial assistant for appointment of senior faculty members in engineering, management sciences and other faculties out of whom 5 senior faculty members have been recently appointed at IIUI.

In the joint statement it is further stated that in order to make the atmosphere of university more academic the president IIUI has taken special steps for holding international level seminar and conferences in the university. Teachers, students and staff members of the university hoped that under the dynamic leadership and broad vision of Dr. Al-Draiweesh IIIU will achieve its targets successfully in short span time.

IIUI HOLDS SEMINAR ON “MODERATION AND ITS USES IN COMMUNITY BUILDING”
The 25th Annual Cultural Week of the International Islamic University is being celebrated as part of the university silver jubilee celebrations this year. A seminar was conducted in this connection on “Moderation and its Uses in Community Building” at the central library of the new campus of the university here on Tuesday. Dr. Tahir Mansoori, Director General Shariah Academy, IIUI was the chief guest on the occasion whereas Dr. Munawar Iqbal Gondal, Chairperson Dept. of English IIUI, faculty members and students attended the seminar.

Addressing to the seminar Dr. Mansoori said that the basic characteristics of Muslims are Justice and tolerance therefore, there is a need to respect others with soft attitude to eliminate the social problems of the society and educate others about Islam. While talking about the prevailing conditions of the society, Dr. Mansoori added that we should not impose our views upon others. He said that the solution for all this is to abolish the attitude of violence and develop positive dialogue in the society. Dr. Mansoori Urged the students to refrain from violence and avoid it while expressing their views to others. He added that Islam teaches us to help others and the history shows that those nations who adopted violence were destroyed. He stressed upon the need of research in the matters related to Islam.

Dr. Munawar Iqbal said that Islam is a religion of patience and tolerance and we should never ever impose our views forcibly on others but we should also listen to the view of others. He said that Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) always taught about peace and moderation and prohibited from extremism and violence.

HEC APPROVES RESEARCH PROJECT (AMOUNTING RS. 10 MILLION) OF DR. NAYLA JABEEN
Higher Education Commission (HEC), Islamabad has approved Dr. Nayla Jabeen’s research project amounting 10 million in the field of Biotechnology. She is working as Assistant Professor in the department of Biotechnology of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI). Biotechnology is an applied field and department of Biotechnology, seriously lacks funding for the research. Presently there is no single research project of even 1 million in the department. This project would serve as the pioneer and foundation of high quality research in the field of Biotechnology in the female campus of the university. It would also provide an opportunity to the female students who want to work in female oriented environment.

FSL STUDENTS VISIT THE RAWALPINDI HIGH COURT
The Faculty of Shariah & Law of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) has always endeavored to equip its students with all the requisite skills required to excel in the legal profession. As part of their vocational training, Ms. Shamreeza Riaz, Class Instructor and respected Dr. Samia Maqbool, Chairperson of the Department arranged visit to the Rawalpindi High Court for LLM and LLB second year students of the Law Department on March 15, 2013.

The study tour included a visit to the Research Centre, Library, Bar Room, and Offices of Bar Association. The graduating class visited Courtroom and witnessed the proceedings of different cases being heard by Justice Rauf Ahmad Sheikh, and Justice Ijaz Ahmed.

This visit allowed the students to get familiar with the court proceedings and to get firsthand information regarding the methodology employed by advocates in a court of law. After hearing the arguments presented by the eminent attorneys of Pakistan and observing the judicial expertise of the Honorable Justices, the young students were able to assess the level of commitment needed in this profession. In order to ensure that the students continue to be acquainted with the workings of the judicial system, Mr. Tofiq Asif, President High Court Bar Association Rawalpindi, Ms. Naila Gul, Library Secretary, Mr. Faisal Niazi, General Secretary, Miss Humaira Abbasi, Additional Secretary, welcomed and addressed the students. Senior lady lawyers Adv. Raheela Sobohi, Adv. Anila Atique, Adv. Shaista Atta Adv. Robina Sadozai and Adv. Sehrish Saba Raja shared their experiences with the students and advised them to follow code of conduct.

FEMALE CAMPUS CELEBRATES “INTERNATIONAL WOEMN’S DAY”
Department of Education organized International Womens’s Day in Fatima tu Zahra block auditorium of the Female Campus. Director Female Campus Dr. Zaitoon Begum was the Chief Guest of the occasion. Chairperson Department of Education Dr. Samina Malik inaugurated the event with her opening remarks and expressed her thoughts on the role of women in Islam. Students of education department expressed and highlighted the problems and difficulties of women by presenting skits, speeches, songs and poem. Incharge Dawah Center for Women Ms. Shagufta Umar described the history of International Women’s Day and shared with students about the rights of women in Islam. Director Female Campus Dr. Zaitoon Begum highly appreciated the efforts of the Chairperson, faculty member and students of Department of Education for organizing the wonderful event on International Women’s Day.

 

DR. AL-DRAIWEESH ADDRESSES TO THE STUDENTS OF IIUI
Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) has said that “ Pakistan is a great country and survival of Muslim Ummah depends upon its survival. He said that if Pakistan remains prosperous then Muslim Ummah will also remain prosperous, otherwise if Pakistan’s situation became unsatisfactory it will surely affect whole Muslim Ummah. He was addressed to a large gathering of students at Students Activity Center of the university.

He said that governments of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have a challenging job of Presidency of IIUI and I shall try my best to come over on the expectations both the Governments. He urged that our united efforts will be proved a milestone for the services of Muslim Ummah. He urged the students to work for promotions of education and development of county. He said that the students are great asset of the Muslim Ummah. He vowed to take every possible step to provide each and every facility to university students and teacher.

He said that his address is a resumption of a series of contacts with students. While speaking about the forth coming “ Annual Cultural Week” of the university he said its theme for this year is “Youth and Their Role for Muslim Ummah” and he hope the faculty members and students will play vital role to make this event successful.

Dr Al Draiweesh announced that one student will be provided the opportunity to perform Hajj while two students to Umrah, annually. At the end, Dr. Al-Draiweesh distributed prizes among the students by lucky draws. Earlier Dr. Al-Draiweesh warmly welcomed by the students when he reached on the stage.

AMBASSADOR OF SUDAN CALLS ON DR. AL-DRAIWEESH
The Ambassador of Sudan in Pakistan, H.E. Al-Shafie Ahmed Mohamed called on Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh , President, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) and discussed matters related to bilateral interest.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh said that good educational relation with Sudan is top priority of IIUI. He said IIUI is committed to provide quality education to the students of Islamic countries especially Sudan and university will continue its efforts in this regard. He added that IIUI is always trying to find new ways to expand educational relations with Islamic countries. The President IIUI hoped that the exchange of faculty members and student delegations between Sudan and IIUI will open new horizons in the field of education.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh and Al-Shafie Ahmed also exchanged views about establishing Arabic Language Center at IIUI with the help of Sudan’s Arabic language scholars. They also discussed the issues for scholarships for students of Sudan.

The Ambassador while appreciating the role of IIUI said that it is a remarkable source of quality education for the students of Islamic countries. He said IIUI is helping Sudan in the development of country by producing educated minds who come in university for quality education. IIUI APPOINTS NEWS PROVOST & DEPUTY PROVOST
Dr. Hafiz Abid Masood, Assistant Professor, (English) of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) has been appointed as Provost (Boys Hostels), IIUI while Dr. Muhammad Amin Makki, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Arabic has been appointed as Deputy Provost (Boys Hostels), IIUI. It is pertinent to mention here that Muhammad Ibrar Anver, Assistant Professor has relieved of his additional assignment of Provost (Boys Hostels), IIUI.

AMBASSADOR OF INDONESIA CALLS ON DR. AL-DRAIWEESH
Ambassador of Indonesia in Pakistan, H.E. Burhan Muhammad called on the Prof. Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) at his office and exchanged views about matters of mutual interest. Prof. Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman, Vice President (AF&P), IIUI was also present on the occasion. During the meeting president IIUI and Indonesian ambassador agreed upon expanding the cooperation in the fields of education, research and in this regard mutually workshops and seminars would be organized.

Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh said that Muslim Ummah is like a family and due to distance youth of Ummah is facing problems which can be solved with provision of quality education. He said that IIUI would continue providing best facilities to the Indonesian students and scholarships would be provided to the bright Indonesian students. Dr. Al-Draiweesh said that university will solve the problems of Indonesian students on priority basis.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh said that Indonesia has played vital role for the progress of Muslim Ummah and Indonesia has also served very best in the field of education and research. About the relationship of Pakistan and Indonesia he said that both the countries are bonded in religious and historical ties and playing vital role to promote Islamic teachings. He further said that IIU will strengthen cooperation in the fields of research and education with the Indonesian universities and in this regard exchange of students & senior faculty members should take place so that both sides may benefit from each others experiences and to serve Muslim Ummah.

While talking to the President IIUI, Burhan Muhammad said that number of Indonesian students are studying in this university because they know that IIUI is developing such a generation which is well aware of Islamic teachings and playing important role to promote Islam worldly. He said that IIUI is serving not only Pakistani people but it is the university of the Muslim Ummah and Muslims have lot of hopes from this university. He also wished to promote the cooperation between IIUI and Indonesian universities and promised for provision of senior teachers to IIUI. He also invited Dr. Al-Draiweesh to visit Indonesia. At the end souvenirs were presented to each other from both sides.

LINCOLN CORNER HOLDS WORKSHOP ON “EFFECTIVE WRITING OF STATEMENT OF PURPOSE”
Lincoln Corner, Central Library of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) has conducted a workshop on “Effective Writing of Statement of Purpose” in collaboration with USEFP for graduate and undergraduate level students of the university. Mr. Amer Malik and Mr. Faaiz Ijaz, Educational Advisers at USEFP were the resource persons on the occasion.

Both speakers highlighted the importance of statement of purpose in wining the academic scholarship degree programs. They also discussed the necessary information regarding the statement of purpose including structure, relevant content and appropriate tone. The students actively participated in the workshop and asked question regarding the criteria, deadlines and preparation for Fulbright scholarships. Ms. Sidra Shan, the Lincoln Corner Coordinator, opened the program and encouraged the audience to take advantage of the print and digital resources available in Lincoln Corner.

DR. AL-DRAIWEESH DELIVERS LECTURE ON “CONCEPT OF PSYCHOLOGY IN ISLAM”
Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) has said that strong believe on Allah frees man from servitude of humans beings and strong believers, believe that nobody can benefit or harm them except Allah due to which they remain safe from problems and psychological disorders. It was said by Dr. Al-Draiweesh while delivering a lecture on “Concept of Psychology in Islam” arranged by the Psychology Department of the university. Large number of faculty members and male & female students attended the lecture. He said that our forefathers were safe from psychological problems because they had strong believe in Allah and they spent their lives according to Quran & Sunnah but when the relations of the man became poor with Allah, he was indulged in psychological deceases and other social problems. While highlighting the importance of Masjid he said that a man who goes to offer five times prayer in Masjid remains safe from worries and anxieties because of his faith on Allah which frees him from wordy power. He follows Quran & Sunnah due to which his day to day affairs goes stead line. He urged psychology students to relate their studies with teachings of Quran as it would open new horizons in advancement of subject. He said that Quran is the way of salvation for us and if we want to get rid of our psychological problems then we will have to make a strong relation with Quran. He stated that we should contemplate on the teachings of Quran and we should compose our lives in the light of Quran and Sunnah.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh said that there is nothing wrong if we get benefit from non Muslim Psychological experts but we should not ignore basic teachings of Islam. He said that believe in Allah leads to patience and it brings balance in our lives. While referring to presence of violence in the society he said that behavior of lack of patience and extremism is due to unawareness of basic Islamic teachings. He said that Islam is religion of peace and it strongly discourage violence on Non-Muslims. He said apathy from Islam is root cause of our recent problems like violence.

Dr. Tahir Khalili, Head Dept. of Psychology of the university said that during his last visit of Saudi Arabia they have discussed the preparation of courses regarding Psychology and its relations with Islamic teachings with the Dept of Psychology of Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University, Saudi Arabia. He hoped that this will be very helpful in latest research and advancement in the field of psychology. Dr. Seema Gul, Dept of Psychology (Female), IIUI also addressed on the occasion.

Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh has said that Youth is considered as the asset of any nation who spent their precious time and money to get knowledge and serve the nation. He said that students from 40 different countries of the world are getting education in this university thus they are strengthening the Islamic brotherhood. He said that the doors of this university will always remain open for those who want to get education and knowledge.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh said that modern era is the era of science and technology and we cannot survive without getting sound knowledge in these discipline, therefore students should spent their valuable time in learning so that they may serve not only their countries but whole Muslim Ummah positively. He said the university has already announced prizes for the brilliant students and I also shall introduce prizes of Umrah for brilliant students from my own pocket.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh said that celebrations of “Annual Cultural Week” are about to come and these celebrations are helpful to highlight not only culture of Pakistan but culture of Muslim Ummah. He said that through these celebrations we shall get a chance to exchange our experiences.

Earlier Dr. Hafiz Muhammad Anwar introduced the department of Alumni and said that this department will work as a bridge between students and university to benefit from their potential.

Dr. Safeer Awan, Student Advisor (Male) also addressed on the occasion, and highlighted the upcoming 26th Cultural Week activities. He said that this time we are celebrating “Cultural Week” in a unique way and student must participate in these celebrations.

It is worth mentioning here that presently 1800 students (1350 male and 150 female) from 40 countries of the world are studying in this university.

SEMINAR ON SYSTEMS BIOLOGY OF IMMUNE NETWORKS
The Department of Bioinformatics & Biotechnology International Islamic University, Islamabad has organized a seminar on “Systems Biology of Immune Networks” in the Seminar Room of the Central Library, New Campus of the University. Dr. Muhammad Naseem, a Research Scientist at Department of Bio-Informatics, Biocenter, Wuerzburg, Germany was the Guest Speaker. Dr. M. Naseem has a PhD in Bioinformatics and his research work has been published in several international journals. Addressing to the seminar, Dr. Jabar Khattak, Chairman Department of Bio Informatics and Biotechnology said that such conferences shall be organized on monthly basis in collaboration with International Universities.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM FOR UNIVERSITY TEACHERS
The Department of Education has designed a Professional Development Program for University Teachers (PDPUT) which is intended for the professional development of University teachers through intensive in-service training. It aims to enhance pedagogical and research skills of the Higher Education Faculty of IIUI.

The composite course will comprise of 10 areas of:

  1. Teaching as a Profession
  2. Academic Planning and Management
  3. Curriculum Development
  4. Assessment and Evaluation
  5. Learners’ Psychology
  6. Andragogical Skills
  7. Communication Skills
  8. Research Methods and Skills
  9. Microteaching
  10. Professional Standards for Teachers in Pakistan.

A team of well-qualified and experienced trainers drawn from leading teacher-education institutions will contribute to this program. The duration of the program will be 26 working days (comprising of 3 sessions per day), starting from June 03, 2013 in Seminar Room, Fatima tuz Zahra Block (W.C) IIUI.

A group of 30 young Faculty Members of the International Islamic University will seek benefit from the modular based training which is of an interactive nature. This workshop aims at buffing the teaching skills of IIU’s faculty members so that through this interactive process, they may further contribute to faculty improvement and development within their own respective departments. The idea behind this workshop is to initiate a constructive chain of information and expertise dissemination within the thirty departments of the university.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh called on Ambassador of Egypt
Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) has said that Arab Republic of Egypt played important role to serve the Islam and Muslim Ummah and the faculty members of Egypt also contributed a lot to improve the quality of education in Pakistan especially at the International Islamic University, Islamabad. Dr. Draiweesh said this while meeting with the H.E. Said Mohamed El Said Hindam, Ambassador of Arab Republic of Egypt in Pakistan, at Islamabad and exchanged views about the matters of mutual interests. Dr. Al-Draiweesh also discussed the progress of IIUI in the field of education and research and lauded the role of the university.

IIUI holds meeting of steering committee
A meeting of the steering committee to review the arrangements of the fourth coming Intl. Conference on “Problems of Quran’s Translations in the Subcontinent” was held at International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI). Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President IIUI chaired the meeting while Prof. Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman, Vice President, IIUI, Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad, Vice President, Academics including heads of various sub-committees were also present on the occasion. The conference will be held on 29 & 30 April, 2013.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh said that this is very important conference and its arrangements should be exemplary so that the image of the university could be highlighted. He said that faculty members should prepare research papers on different subjects, in such a way that they became helpful to achieve the objectives of IIUI.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh Visits Various Faculties of IIUI
“International Islamic University is a leading university for providing quality education not only in Pakistan but all over the world and now it is the duty of its faculty members and students to maintain this status of the university”, it was said by Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIU), yesterday while he was talking to the students and faculty members of the university during his visit to various faculties of the university.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh also visited class rooms and laboratories of the Faculty of Engineering & Technology, Faculty of Basic & Applied Sciences and Faculty of Social Sciences, where he talked to the faculty members and students of the university regarding their difficulties and problems.

While highlighting the importance of education, he said that the most important thing for the students is to focus on their studies and university will provide them every possible facility in this regard. Talking to the faculty members he said that they should train students according to the Islamic teachings so that they may become a true muslim as well as good citizen. Faculty members and students informed the president about their difficulties on which President IIUI issued orders with immediate effects.

Earlier Dr. Al-Draiweesh inaugurated various construction projects in the new campus of the university and hoped that completion of these projects would increase the facilities available in the university.

Islam provides prestigious status to woman in the society; Dr. Al-Draiweesh
Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) has said that Islam has provided woman a prestigious status in the society and being a mother, sister, daughter and wife she is most respected for us. The female faculty members and workers of International Islamic University are as active as male staff of the university and they are playing their role with responsibility and sincerity not only within the campus but outside of the university and abroad. He was addressing in a meeting of the female faculty members and administrative staff of female campus of the university, yesterday.

While highlighting the importance of study, he said that sense of studentship should remain alive in the teachers so that they may equip themselves with latest research. He added that teachers are role models for the students and they should study Islam in depth so that the real face of Islam could be introduced and propaganda against Islam could be countered.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh said life of Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) is the best model for us which containing guidance for us about each and every matter of life. He said that being a Muslim and teacher we should play our role within and outside of the university because this is the demand of our position. He said being the workers of International Islamic University, it is our prime responsibility to spread teaching of Islam throughout the world. He announced that prizes would be awarded to best teachers on their performance as a teacher as well as a social worker.

Prof. Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman, Vice President (AF & P), Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad, Vice President Academics and Dr. Zaitoon Begum, Director Female Campus also addressed on the occasion.

Workshop on “Peace & Education” Concludes
Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) has said that besides trainings, seeking of knowledge of Psychology is also essential for the Ulema. He was addressing to the concluding ceremony of one month long training workshop on “Peace & Education” organized by the Dept. of Psychology of the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) of the university in collaboration with Organization of Peace and Education, Islamabad.

He said that we are working to establish an atmosphere of brotherhood among Muslim Ummah through this university so that the Ummah can face the challenges of modern age with collective thinking. Islam has gathered us at a single platform and being a Muslim it is our responsibility to promote the sense of unity among the various sects of the society and explore the ways and means of cooperation among them. He added that we should adopt the source of dialogue in this respect because our holy prophet (p.b.u.h) also adopted the same way with non-Muslims. He said that we should remove hatred and jealousy from our hearts and should preach Islam in real sense of the term. He lauded the unity of Islamic scholars of various sects at IIUI platform and said that this unity shows that we are moving toward the right direction.

Earlier Dr. Nabi Bux Jumani, Dean FSS, Dr. Tahir Khalili, Head Dept. of Psychology, IIUI and Syed Irshad also spoke on the subject. During this one month long workshop various lectures on the subject were delivered. At the end President IIUI distributed certificates and prizes among the participants of the workshop.

WORKSHOP ON “SUPERVISING RESEARCH”
The Lincoln Corner, Central Library of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) has organized a workshop on “Supervising Research” for the senior faculty members of the university, in collaboration with the US Embassy, the co-sponsor of the Lincoln Corner.

Ms. Caryn Anderson, Information Resource Officer, US Embassy & Former Research Manager, provided a framework for thinking about the integrated factors necessary for supervising high quality research. Deans from various faculties of the university and a large number of faculty members were present on the occasion. Ms. Caryn Anderson highlighted the importance of viewing supervision in four dimensions: as pedagogy, as management, as relationship building, and as leadership in the advancement of knowledge. She also discussed the role of rigor, passion, wisdom and humor in effective supervision.

Deans and faculty members of the university engaged Anderson and each other in discussion on practical issues like how to manage difficult students and how to improve basic research skills.
Earlier Ms. Sidra Shan, the Lincoln Corner Coordinator, opened the program and encouraged the audience to take advantage of the print and digital resources available in Lincoln Corner in many subject areas.

حصل معالي رئيس الجامعة الإسلامية العالمية في إسلام آباد عل المركز الأول في جائز التميز في خدمة الجامعة والتي تمنحها جامعة الإمام محمد بن سعود الإسلامية لأول مرة في تاريخها.

وفي هذه المناسبة أقيم حفل بهيج في مقر جامعة الإمام محمد بن سعود الإسلامية بالرياض رعاه معالي مدير الجامعة الأستاذ الدكتور/ سليمان بن عبد الله أبا الخيل وحضره وكلاء جامعة الإمام وعمداء الكليات والعمدات المساندة وأعضاء هيئة التدريس وعضوات هيئة التدريس ومدراء الإدارات فيها وعدد من الحضور من الطلاب والطالبات والمهتمين فضلا عن رجال الإعلام والصحافة.

Dr. Al- Draiweesh Avails Distinction From Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud, Islamic University

Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia awarded Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) with high performance award as an acknowledgement of services he rendered at Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University. Dr. Ahmad Yousif received the award during his last visit of Saudi Arabia during a ceremony at Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University. Dr. Sulaiman Abdullah Abalkhail, President, Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia presided over the ceremony while Dean of various faculties, Head of departments of Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University including a six member delegation of Dept. of Psychology of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) headed by Dr. Tahir Khalili were also present on the occasion.

Dr. Sulaiman Abdullah said that this is the first award of its kind in the history of Saudi Universities which is being awarded to Dr. Ahmad Yousif as a acknowledgement of his hard work and services rendered for the university and Muslim Ummah. He congratulated Dr. Al-Draiweesh on achieving this award and said that he truly deserves this award. Dr. Sulaiman hoped that this award shall further polish the capabilities of Dr. Al-Draiweesh as this kind of awards creates competition among peoples, which accelerated spirit of more work and it finally promote religion, Nation and Country.

Dr. Sulaiman Abdullah also lauded the efforts of Dr. Al-Draiweesh for Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University and appreciated his determination of bringing IIUI as leading international university.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh said that this is an honour for him that he has received this award from Dr. Sulaiman Abdullah who himself is a brilliant teacher, administrator and scholar. He said that Dr. Sulaiman has the best leadership qualities and he is leading Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University with unique strategy toward success. Dr. Al-Draiweesh said that it is honour for him that he is receiving this award from a university where he was a student then became teacher and finally an administrator.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh said that he wants to dedicate this award to the International Islamic University, Islamabad and to its every worker because IIUI situated in such a country whose citizen’s hearts are full of passion for Saudi Arabia.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh inaugurates Construction Projects and Tree Plantation Campaign
Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) inaugurated two academics blocks to expand the faculty of Engineering & Technology of the university. These blocks are reserved for the Mechanical Engineering Department of the faculty. The blocks will be built in 18 months with the cost of 10 millions rupees. In an another session he inaugurated projects of boundary wall and main gate of the university. The boundary wall will be constructed in 22 months with the cost of 27.5 million rupees while main gate will be constructed in three months with the cost of 7.5 million. Earlier Dr. Draiweesh inaugurated tree plantation campaign to plant hundreds of trees within the campus.

Talking on this occasion, Dr. Al-Draiweesh said that every possible effort shall be ensured to make this university a centre of excellence for the students. He lauded the efforts of academic and administrative staff members and said that with the help of these sincere, hard working and energetic staff members the university will achieve its objectives. He also lauded the role of Engr. Tahir Khan, Director Planning & Project and efforts of staff members of planning & project department to start construction projects.

Aleem Shakir the first PhD of English department of IIUI
Aleem Shakir, Student of Ph. D (English), International Islamic University, Islamabad has completed Ph. D (English) under the supervision of Dr. Ayaz Afsar, Faculty of Language & Literature of IIUI. Aleem Shakir is the very first Ph. D holder of the Department of English. He wrote his thesis on “Linguistic Variation Across Print Advertisements in Pakistani Media: A Multidimensional Analysis”. His theses was evaluated by foreign evaluators. Prof. Dr. Marina Bondi from University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy and Dr. Paul Thompson, University of Birmingham, Birmingham were the foreign evaluators.

 

 

 

IPD commences 2nd Batch of Officers Professional Development Course (OPDC)
Institute of Professional Development (IPD) of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IUI) is commencing 2nd Batch of Officers Professional Development Course (OPDC) from Tuesday, March 05, 2013. This is one month training course which will conclude on Thursday, April 04, 2013.

THREE DAYS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP IN DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
A 3 days extensive orientation and training workshop was organized in seminar room of female campus for faculty members of Department of Education by Teacher Education Project on offering of new program of B.Ed Hons (Elementary) Program in IIU.
This program aims at empowering teachers with the knowledge and skills needed for effective 21st century classroom practice. With approval from the Higher Education Commission (HEC), new four-year teaching degree program has started in Department of Education, International Islamic University Islamabad.

Workshop was conducted by Ms. Rana Husain, Director, Curriculum Teacher Education Project, HEC. The three days orientation professional development through the Teacher Education Project facilitated the faculty members (Male and Female) of IIUI to help them to use methods encouraged by the new curriculum, for fulfilling pre-service teacher education of 21st century. Group and individual activities were given by the resource person and activities related to assessment requirements of newly launched program were also worked out practically.

At the end of workshop Dr. Samina Malik, Associate Professor/ Chairperson, Department of Education thanked the resource person and the project management for organizing such a useful activity and presented IIUI Shield to the resource person. She also paid gratitude to Prof Dr. N. B. Jumani, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences for providing such professional development opportunities and projects to the faculty. She offered compliments to worthy President Dr. Ahmad Yousif A. Al-Draiweesh for his interest in the professional enhancement of teachers.

IIU holds Meeting of “25th Cultural Week & Silver Jubilee Celebrations 2013” Committee
The International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) organized meeting of committee of “25th Cultural Week and Silver Jubilee Celebrations 2013” yesterday, to review the arrangements of those events. Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President, IIUI presided over the meeting while all members of the committee were also present on the occasion. Dr. Safeer Awan, Chief Coordinator of the said Committee, briefed the meeting about the arrangements of the events.

Dr. Ahmad Yousif expressed his satisfaction regarding arrangements of Annual Cultural Week and Silver Jubilee celebrations 2013 and said that upcoming cultural week will be different from its previous sessions. He said that students, faculty members and intellectuals especially from foreign universities as well as from Pakistan shall participate in these events, therefore there is a need of proper arrangements for these celebrations. Dr. Al-Draiweesh said that every department of the university should play their role actively so that the name of Islamic University may introduce not only in Pakistan but all over the world.

HEC AWARDs GRANT OF RS. 10 MILLIONS TO ARABIC LANGUAGE CENTER of IIUI
Higher Education Commission (HEC), Islamabad has awarded a grant of rupees 10 million to the Arabic Language Centre of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) as recognition of its services for the promotion of Arabic language. The said centre was established in February 2009 in order to hold Short Courses of Arabic Language for general public and achieved a successful response from the people of different quarter of life. The grant has been given to it for the expansion and promotion of Short Arabic Language courses for the general public.

IIUI Delegation Visits Al Imam Muhammad Ibn-Saud Islamic University
A six members delegation headed by Dr Muhammad Tahir Khalily from psychology department of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) visited department of psychology Al Imam Muhammad Ibn-Saud Islamic University Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Other members of the delegation were Dr. Seema Gul, Incharge Psychology Dept. Female, IIUI, Mr. Mazhar Iqbal Bhutti , Assistant Professor, Rabia Mushtaq, Lecturer, Mahmoona Ismail, Lecturer and Mr. Shamsher Hayat Khan, Clinic Coordinator. The delegation was invited by the department of psychology of Al-Imam Muhammad Ibn-Saud Islamic University to the Second International Symposium. The symposium was attended by renowned psychologists from Middle East and the western word.

The delegation had important academic meetings with the department of psychology of the Al-Imam Muhammad Ibn-Saud Islamic University and both the parties explored areas of collaboration and were agreed to work on Joint International conferences on Psychology and mental health, Participation as an external examiners, Joint research activities and publications, Teaching Clinical Psychology , Islamization of Psychology and establishment of clinics.

The delegation also had a meeting with Prof. Muhammad A. Al-Tuwaijri, Dean faculty of Social Sciences, Al-Imam Muhammad Ibn-Saud Islamic University and apprised him about the collaborative activities between the two departments. The Dean has appreciated the efforts and has nominated a team of three senior faculty members of the department of psychology to visit IIUI and to devise a short course on the Islamization of Psychology.

The delegation congratulated Prof. Dr Ahmed Yousif A. Al-Draiweesh on the award of “best services and contribution to the University” confirmed by Prof. Dr. Suliman A. Aba Al-Khail Pro Chancellor IIUI. Later the delegation met with the pro Chancellor and thanked him for providing this opportunity.
