The holy prophet (P.B.U.H) reserved the rights of all living creatures for the first time in the history of human beings. Conference on “The Literary Present and the Postcolonial Condition” concluded at IIUI
Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman, Acting President of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) has said that I am sure that this assembly of scholars would have given due critical thought to the theory of Islamization of Knowledge presented by the famous postcolonial Muslim thinker Ismail Raji al-Farouqi as well as to the ideas of postcolonial Arab thinker Edward said and others, while charting out the future guidelines for conducting research and producing various genres of meaningful literary works in the postcolonial era and in order to avoid in their literary research and works beating the drums cleverly presented by the colonizers and neo-colonizers.He was addressing to the concluding ceremony of the three day international conference on “ Literary Present and Postcolonial Condition” organized by the Department of English, International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) in collaboration with Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan. Faculty members of the university and large number of male and female students attended the concluding ceremony of the conference. Renowned scholars from Pakistan, India, Nigeria, England, Canada and North America presented their research papers during the various sessions of the conference.

Dr. Sajid ur Rehman draw the attention of the participants and scholars to an important point in this regards that history is a jumble of information pitched in by the writers of various viewpoints, friends and foes alike. In the face of the onslaught of the vested propaganda with distortion of the facts and more importantly disconnect with the languages of our intellectual history and cultural heritage there some who have the tendency to look at our heroes from the viewpoint of the colonizers and / or the neo-colonizers. It is only a misfortune. He questioned that do the scholars and syllabi of the US, UK, Germany, France and other nations evaluate their heroes from view point of the others? In such situation the foremost responsibility of our scholars and researchers here is to guide our young scholars by constructing through their painstaking research what was destructed and destroyed by the colonizers; the literature, the system of the education and social welfare as well as the system spiritual and civilisational reform, both for Muslims and non-Muslims. All this information is scattered in the annals of History, travelogues and literature of various kinds recorded in Arabic, Persian and other local languages.

Dr. Sajid Said that it is the responsibility of our department of English literature and similarly the other departments to take advantage of the presence of scholars of various disciplines in this international seat of learning, and not only commission multidisciplinary MS and PhD dissertations under the co-supervisions of the scholars of various specializations to explore the rich literary and intellectual heritage of the Muslims in the subcontinent but also turn the focus of their own research to this filed.

He said that language being the medium of communication and inculcation of the ideas, concepts, ideals and values plays a very vital role in this regard. Before the British domination, Persian was the official language of the Subcontinent. Persian, a language having rich tradition of Islamic learning, culture and civilization had a deep rooted influence on the society through its various genres of poetry and prose.

Dr. Sajid ur Rehman said that when British became the rulers of Subcontinent and they changed official language from Persian to English, the scenario was changed. The change of language created yearning for speaking English rather yearning for speaking English more fluently than the English themselves. This longing for speaking and writing English through its literature paved the way for English values. Dr. Sajid ur Rehman further said that this is the responsibility of English speaking and English literate Muslims to enrich the world with Islamic norms, values, culture and civilization.

He said that I feel proud that our faculty members of the English department are trying their best in playing their part in this regard. Islam is the pioneers of human equality; Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad
Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad, Vice President (Academics), International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) has said that Islam is the pioneers of human equality and we should follow the teaching of Islam in every field of life but we have a system inherited from British which based on discrimination and which evaluated the role of persons on the basis of his socio economic position in the society. This system is working in our society in its worth form. He was addressing to the participants of a Training Program organized for the officers of the IIUI here on Wednesday. He said that in a system different individuals are assigned duties in accordance with their capabilities and each person’s role is equally important. Importance of the person does not depend upon nature of work. He further added that human’s dignity should not be evaluated on the basis of grade and designation, this attitude eliminates the spirit of mutual respects. Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad advised the IIUI officers to adopt the principle of consultation, take keen interest in personal problems of employees, by doing so, your office will become a home where every one will respect each other, which will increase your performance and productivity.

The withdrawal of American forces from Afghanistan will bring far reaching changes in the region; Dr. Dietrich Reetz
The Establishment of broad based government must be ensured before the withdrawal of America; Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad
Iqbal International Institute For Research & Dialogue (IRD) arranged a lecture of Dr. Dietrich Reetz, Director of the Project “Crossroads Asia” at Zentrum Moderner Orient, Berlin on “Back to the Future: Regional compulsions and opportunities after US/Nato withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2014” on Monday 5-11-2012 in the Seminar Room, Main Library (Ibn-e-Sina Library Complex), New Campus, IIUI.Dr. Dietrich Reetz discussed the possible change and shift in the situation in the region and the opportunities and challenges after the withdrawal. He said that it is a common perception that withdrawal of international forces is inevitable and immanent from Afghanistan and Pakistan is not willing to make concessions to U.S. on the other hand the insurgents are also not willing to make any concession to Pakistan and Afghanistan. The neighbors of Afghanistan such as India, China, Iran, Russia are anxious about the future of the region and feel that they have to put their foot down. India is strengthening his relations with Afghanistan to maintain and keep the leverage and China is reconsidering the equidistance to India and Pakistan. While commenting on U.S. Pak relations he said U.S. sees no alternative to good relations with Pakistan but there is a feeling of dissatisfaction on both ends and therefore they are no chances of downgrading but also not elevating.

While discussing Central Asia he said that it can never be ignored due to its importance as energy sector and transport corridor. He also discussed the importance of CADA-1000 energy project and Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India Pipeline project known as TAPI and its outcome and effect on different levels. He also pointed the Chinese and Russian influence and ground theatre for cooperation with India, rapprochement over energy and shanghai cooperation zone.

While discussing Iran he said economical opportunities can create new environments for removing political hurdles. He stated that there is a need of positive input by Iran in Central Asia, Afghanistan considering the shia communities of the wider region will be very useful for the regional peace.

Importance of India- Pakistan and their love-hate relation was also discussed. He said that they are very relative to each other and there are no hegemonic ambitions but both are continuously facing nationalistic, religious, right questioning problems and they should try to work on developing environment of compromise. Returning back to Pakistan he said wider Central Asia is aware of its enmity with India and he also assumed that China won’t confront India openly due to its wide and large economical interests with India

In his concluding remarks Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed Executive Director general IRD said that India has genuine reason in taking interest in Afghanistan but the establishment should ensure peace and stability after withdrawal because if it is not done than chaos, civil war and instability will occur with its consequences such as drugs, weapons, refugees and it will be like playing with fire once again. He said that there is no doubt that Pakistan has some genuine strategic interests with Afghanistan. Pakistan will never appreciate a country having history of hostility with Pakistan but it should also not dictate Afghanistan and Kabul on its internal matters and affairs and let them take their decisions and device their strategies by considering their own circumstances and preferences. He said that I doubt that America will completely withdraw in 2014 as American media shared doubt have already said very clearly that it’s not a deadline given by a divine authority! He also quoted the observation of a German diplomat who mentioned a base being constructed in Afghanistan at the cost of 700-800 million dollars and said that they are not going to leave in the near future and they may stay there for the next half century.
