IIUI MARKS INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR BIODIVERSITY

A one day seminar with poster exhibition was organized to celebrate “international Day for Biodiversity” at Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, at the Auditorium, Fatima Block, International Islamic University, Islamabad. The theme of the event was “Threats to Biodiversity”.

The seminar was aimed at creating awareness among students regarding threats against biodiversity that has become a challenge due to increased deforestation and industrialization as a result of human activities. Students of the department designed and participated in poster competition according to theme.

On the occasion, welcome address was delivered by the Dean FBAS Dr. Arshad Zia. Speakers included Dr. Ali Nawaz, from Quaid-i-Azam University and Mr. Yasir Nisar from Walkabout films. A documentary on the Himalayan Brown Bears in Deosai plains was also displayed for the interest of the audience.

Prof. Dr. Manzoor Hussain Soomro, President, ECO Science Foundation was the Chief Guest of the event. Rector IIUI, Prof. Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, while addressing the audience emphasized on the importance of biodiversity and discussed different strategies to protect the nature. At the end, Dr. Asma Gul, Chairperson, Department of Bioinformatics and Biotechnology thanked Resource Persons for sharing thoughts and Chief Guest for gracing the occasion.
