A seminar on launching an educational awareness campaign in remote areas under the Prime Minister’s Literacy Enhancement Program, “Each One, Teach One (EOTO),” was held on 8th December 2025 at the Department of Teacher Education, Faculty of Education, International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI). The event was organized by BS Education students under the supervision of Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, In-charge Programs, Department of Teacher Education, and Dr. Muhammad Nasir Khan.
Speakers highlighted key strategies for promoting literacy in underserved regions, including tele-schools, mobile schools, camel libraries, door-to-door campaigns, open school days, and collaborative efforts with local administrations. Participants were briefed on the core objectives of the EOTO initiative—eradicating illiteracy, empowering individuals with essential life skills, fostering a culture of learning and social responsibility, and mobilizing educated citizens to teach illiterate individuals for community development and national progress. The speakers underscored that the campaign aligns with the Prime Minister’s directives on the national “Education Emergency” and supports the Roshan Pakistan – National Literacy Drive.
Addressing the seminar, Dr. Azhar Mehmood, In-charge Programs, Faculty of Education, emphasized the importance of multi-dimensional efforts to curb illiteracy and increase school enrollment. He also shared his active involvement in the EOTO program at IIUI and encouraged students to play a meaningful role in literacy enhancement initiatives.
Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal discussed the significance of educational awareness in an Islamic framework, while Dr. Muhammad Nasir Khan elaborated on the responsibilities of university students in uplifting the national literacy rate. He noted that a distinctive feature of the EOTO program is the engagement of students from Grade 9 to PhD levels across both public and private sectors as literacy teachers. The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Dr. Zafar Iqbal, appreciating the participants for their interest and contributions.
