IIUI Seminar Highlights Pathways to Gender-Responsive Justice

The Department of Sociology at the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) organized a seminar titled “UNITE for Gender-Responsive Justice: Careers in Police, Judiciary, Prosecution & Bar” in collaboration with Mojaz Foundation and UN Women Pakistan.

Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor Dr. Manzoor Khan Afridi appreciated the initiative of the department and partner organizations. He underscored the need for fostering a gender-just society where women participate confidently in professions traditionally seen as male-dominated, including police services, judiciary, prosecution, and the bar.

Speakers Syeda Asma Naqvi, DSP National Highways and Motorway Police, Ms. Sadia Iqbal and Adnan Hakeem from Mojaz Foundation, Dr. Babar Akram, Chairman Department of Sociology, Dr. Rabia Ali, Incharge Female Campus (Sociology), Dr. Amber Ferdoos, Assistant Professor, and Dr. Saira Batool, Assistant Professor and focal person of the event, shared insights on the structural and social challenges faced by women pursuing careers in these fields. They discussed practical approaches to improving access, institutional support and awareness.

The sessions also addressed the rising trend of digital violence, noting that its impact is significant among youth due to increased internet engagement. Speakers emphasized the role of academia in equipping students with awareness, critical thinking and resilience to promote a more equitable society.

The seminar included poster presentations and documentaries prepared by Sociology students. Entries were evaluated by judges and cash prizes were awarded to the winners.
