DEPARTMENTS OF SOCIOLOGY MARKS INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

 The Department of Sociology Faulty of Social Sciences International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) in collaboration with NGO World observed International Women’s Day at campus.

The Theme of the seminar was “better the gender balance better the social world”. Mr. Sajjad Nayar-the key note speaker- stressed on the students to be gender sensitive and promote gender equality in their respective circles. He referred to the day to day life examples of gender inequalities and stressed how to overcome such issues.

Dr. Hazir Ullah-Chairman Sociology (Male) highlighted that gender roles are not biological but socially constructed. Dr. Hazir advised the students to study women status in Islam and compare it with the Western notion of gender equality. He furthered that this will enable us to have a clear understanding of women in our society.

Dr. Rabia-In-charge Sociology (Female) highlighted important aspects women status in Pakistani society. She said that women’s Day is a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of Pakistan and Pakistani community.

Earlier,Dr. Farhan Naved Yousaf- Assistant Professor Sociology welcomed the key note speaker and all the participants.
