DEPARTMENT OF SOCIOLOGY HOLDS PROGRAM ON CHILD ABUSE 

Department of Sociology, International Islamic University Islamabad organized a seminar on Child Abuses”  at Faisal Masjid campus.

The chief guest on the occasion-Mr. Nadeem Afzal Chan, Special Assistant to Prime Minister of Pakistan on Political Affairs, Islamabad appreciated  efforts of IIUI  for working for the rights of children and child protection. He promised government support in this regard.

The seminar was attended by Faculty members and students of the Department of Sociology, people from embassies, ministries NGOs, media and civil society. Chairman Department of Sociology International Islamic University,  Dr. Hazir Ullah expressed his concern and voiced that the number of child abuse cases are increasing with each passing year.

Mr. Sohail Ahmed, Senior Program Officer Media, Sahil shared Sahil’s “Cruel Numbers 2018 Report” with the audience. Professor Dr.  M. Zafar Iqbal, Chairman Department Media and Communication, IIUI stressed on the role of media and explained how print and electronic media should portray child abuse cases. Prof. M. Zafar Iqbal urged media people to function as responsible media professional with a great sensitivity for the honor and repute of Pakistan. Executive Director Sahil Ms. Manizeh Bano shared a case study of child sexual abuse and highlighted how Sahil is fighting the legal cases of child sexual abuse to bring the culprit to court and provide justice to the victim.
