DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES ORGANISES A WORKSHOP ON CELL AND TISSUE CULTURE TECHNIQUES

Applied Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering Laboratories (ABGE), Department of Biological Sciences of International Islamic university Islamabad at Female Campus organised a workshop on Cell and Tissue Culture techniques.

Mrs Abida Raja, Member Punjab Assembly and Chairperson Standing Committee for the Population welfare inaugurated the workshop and visited the Applied Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering Laboratories. Dr Nyla Jabeen, Assistant Professor and Founding Head Applied Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering Laboratories was the organizer of the workshop. Mrs Abida Raja appreciated the efforts of students and Dr Nyla Jabeen. Dr Nyla Jabeen briefed the Honourable guest that cell and tissue culture is a key to overcome the consequences of climatic change on scientific basis.

Since the technique is used to culture the plants under laboratory conditions so continuous training of students to cell culture techniques will produce the future entrepreneurs and conservation of important threatened plants will be possible.

The laboratories working under the umbrella of ABGE are Cell Culture Lab, Advanced Molecular Biology Lab and Bio pharming Research lab. These labs were inaugurated by worthy Rector Prof Dr Masoom Yasinzai in November 2014 and are being supported by the research projects from the Higher Education Commission and Pakistan Science Foundation. Many Ph.D, M.Phil and BS students have completed their research in these laboratories.
