Department of Law at the Faculty of Shariah and Law (FSL) of International Islamic University (IIU)in collaboration with Oxford University Press Pakistan organized launching ceremony of Dr. Shahbaz Ahmad Cheema and Dr. Zubair Abbasi’s book on Family Laws in Pakistan.
Among the panelists were Dr. Shaheen Sardar Ali, Dr. Muhammad Munir, Dr. Muhammad Mushtaq and Dr. Hafiz Aziz ur Rehman and the authors.
Both the authors are IIUI Alumni who opined that they realized the lack of appropriate and up-to-date teaching material to train future legal scholars and practitioners of Family Law in Pakistan. They told that available books, written during the British colonial period in India, were not only archaic but also unsuitable for law students of the 21st century. The authors added that ‘revised’ and ‘updated’ versions of these books include a mere listing of head-notes of case-law under various sub-topics, without analysis and commentary.
The event was attended by faculty members, renowned personalities of the legal fraternity and a large number of students.
