BIOLOGICAL DEPARTMENT, FBAS, IIUI HOLDS VIRTUAL WOKSHOP

A two days virtual workshop titled “An Insight into Biomedical Informatics” was organized by Biological Department, Faculty of Basic and Applied Sciences, FBAS, IIUI. It was aimed to provide computational training of tools / software’s from basic Biomedical Technology to Cutting Edge Technology.

Prof. Dr. Ayaz Afsar, Vice President (Academics), IIUI also attended the virtual sessions and welcomed the keynote speakers. Dr. Ayaz also appreciated the efforts of the department for organizing this workshop for students and researchers. On the occasion Vice President (Academics) highlighted the importance of high technology biomedical informatics research to prepare the students for careers of constructive services to society in academia, industry and health related fields.

Dr. Sobia Tabassum, Chairperson, Biological Department, FBAS, IIUI shared the perspective of workshop with an advance health care knowledge through the advancement of biomedical informatics. She urged the importance of highly focused sessions which will provide a research-oriented training in informatics and data science which can be integrated with exposure to real-world systems in clinical and research settings at our university, in our community, and around the world.

The experienced trainers, Dr. Sara Sarfaraz, Ph.D. University of Science and Technology of China,  Dr. Saira Amir, Ph.D COMSATS University Islamabad, Dr. Saba Manwar Ph.D. NUST Islamabad, Ms. Hira Mehreen, Comsats University, Islamabad, ALSO participated in two days sessions of the virtual workshop to produce meaningful results and quality research hands-on exercises which improved students’ technology adoption rates and their self-confidence in using advanced mining tools for next generation DNA sequencing (NGS), gene chip analysis, molecular modeling, drug designing, machine learning, artificial intelligence in life sciences.

The workshop ended with an interactive training session which was held between the guest speakers and more than 100 trainees. Chairperson Department thanked all the speakers and overwhelmed students who have participated in the tow days workshop.
