ACCOLADES FOR IIUI: FACULTY MEMBERS ATTAIN HEC’S BEST RESEARCH PAPER AWARD

Two faculty members of the International Islamic University were awarded the Best Research Paper award (2015/16) in Humanities by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. The paper titled “Deconstructive Pedagogy and Ideological Demystification in Post-Colonial Pakistan” was published in an eminent journal published by Routledge: Taylor and Frances Group called Curriculum Inquiry. It was co-authored by Asma Mansoor of the Department of English with Dr. Samina Malik, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences.

The journal has an impact Factor 0.812. The paper is an interdisciplinary exploration that focuses on using deconstructive pedagogy to demystify and subvert the ideological conditioning of Pakistani students that is done through the English literary syllabi taught at the Masters level in Pakistani universities. The paper focuses on activating a deconstructive teaching methodology that unveils the different hegemonic processes involved in the constitution of docile political subjects. They challenge any authoritative interpretation of canonical texts, creating new meanings by activating the play of trace and difference in the re-readings of these texts within post-colonial Pakistan
