IIUI Committee Reviews Proposals for Academic Events and Research Initiatives

The Travel Grant (TG) and Conference/Seminar/Workshop (CSW) Committee of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) met at the New Campus to review proposals for upcoming academic and research-oriented events. The session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Ahmed Shuja Syed, Vice President (Research & Extension), while the Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) facilitated the proceedings. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Amir, Director ORIC, briefed the participants on the agenda items and submitted proposals.

The committee reviewed departmental requests for conferences, seminars, workshops, guest lectures, and training sessions aimed at strengthening research collaboration. The proposals included a guest lecture on Mujaza-e-Fan Ki Hay Khoon-e-Jigar Se Namood, a workshop on digital pathways to company registration and legal innovation, and two AI-focused workshops on developing real-time intelligent systems using PYNQ technology.

The meeting also noted the merger of two proposed events— a seminar on Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and a symposium titled Asar-e-Hazir kay Tanazur mein Fikr-e-Iqbal ki Moeeniyat— which will now be held jointly by the Islamic Research Institute (IRI), the Department of Urdu, and the International Relations Department.

The committee further reviewed preparations for the upcoming conference titled “Caliban Speaks: International Conference on Re-centering Indigenous Thought in the Age of Neocolonialism and Technology,” planned at the Allama Iqbal Auditorium and currently awaiting HEC funding. Additional proposals from IRI were also approved.

Prof. Dr. Ahmed Shuja Syed emphasized the importance of ensuring that all events remain student-centric and aligned with the university’s policy. He guided organizers on thematic and financial aspects while encouraging meaningful student participation each semester. Budgetary and funding matters were discussed in detail, while chairpersons and faculty members presented updates on their planned academic activities.

The meeting was attended by Prof. Dr. Abdul Raheman, Vice President (Academics & Examinations); Prof. Dr. Muhammad Zia ul Haq, DG IRI / Dean FSL; Syed Zulfiqar Ahmed, Dean FMS; and senior faculty members submitting upcoming initiatives. ORIC staff also shared administrative updates.
