Department of Environmental Science (DES), Faculty of Basic & Applied Science, International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) has launched Massive Spring Season Plantation Campaign-2019, which was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al Draiweesh, President IIUI, by planting a Palm Tree in the lawn of Administration Block at New Campus of the University. Additional Deputy Commissioner General (ADCG), Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) was also present on this occasion.
Planting trees is a Sunnah of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) and its reward continues even after the death of the person who plants a tree, said President, IIUI.
Dr. Draiweesh urged the entire team of Department of Environmental Science and IIUI community to be active to plant indigenous fruit trees, flowering trees and other plants of medicinal and economic value. He also appreciated the enthusiasm about the current campaign “IIUI Clean & Green” of Department of Environmental Science and emphasized that all of us should participate in this mega campaign to make Clean and Green Pakistan.
President, IIUI said that today the world is facing environmental problem. Global warming, ozone depletion and pollution are burning issues. Solution to these problems lies in planting more trees while, trees and plants are the prime source of environmental purification and beautification.
Dr. Muhammad Ibrar Shinwari, Chairman, DES / Chairman, IIUI Clean & Green Campus, told that Quranic Garden work is also initiated by the Department of Environmental Science in collaboration with the Horticulture Department of the University near Alberoni Guest House at New Campus, which will be completed within two months. According to details, plants recommended for Massive Spring Season Plantation Campaign-2019 at New Campus are Amaltas, Anar, Beir, Bans, Bamboo, Dhak, Phulai, Ghaz, Khair, Cuthe tree, Chir Pine, Kao, Olive, Kachnar, Kajoor, Injeer, Jaman, Nashpati, Peer, Hul e Nishtar, Coral tree, Sheesham, Tali, Sohanjjna, Sukh Chain Sanatta, Amla, Bohr, Pipal, Dhaman, Angoor, Babrung and Chambeli.
Dr. Shinwari also told that plantation of invasive plant species must be avoided because they may create environmental / health problems in future while, location and order of plantation is also important technically for the survival of the plants.
The ceremony was attended by Vice Presidents, Director Generals, Deans, Directors, Students Advisors, Provosts, HoD’s Faculty Members, Administrative Officials and a large number of students.
