IIUI HOLDS INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON FOOD SAFETY AND REGULATIONS

participants International symposium on food safety and regulations  at female campus opined that contaminated food can cause long term health problems multi-spectral and multidisciplinary approach is required to maintain food safety.

The symposium was organized by Student Advisor office (Female Campus) in collaboration with Pakistan Society of microbiology and Dhadaboy Institute of Higher Education Commission Pakistan.

It was attended by over 150 students. The event was concluded by Prof Dr Farkhanda Zia, Vice President Female Campus and Prof. Dr Arshad Zia, Dean Faculty of Basic and Applied Sciences. Symposium organizers included Dr Nyla Jabeen student Advisor Female Campus, Dr Bushra Uzair, Ms Sadaf Anwaar, Dr Sobia Tabassum, Dr Naveeda Riaz, Dr Bushra Hafeez and Dr Sarah Gul.

Dr. Kamran Shoukat Food safety/laboratory Manager, Ferndale Foodserith UK, delivered a talk on food safety and regulation. He described numerous pathogens that affect the food manufacturing industry. He mentioned food safety effect economy and society on whole saying that everybody has to play a role in keeping food safe as more than 200 diseases spread through food, and globalization has made food safety more complex and essential.

Professor Dr Asif Ahmad, Director of Department of Food Technology delivered a very compressive overview of, biological, physical and chemicals hazards associated with foods.

Symposium experts Dr. Asif Ahmad and Dr. Kamran Shoukat recommended that food safety is need of every individual so individual level efforts are needed while implementation of science-based system and reorganization of federal food safety efforts is required.  Dean FBAS requested Director, Department of Food Technology PMAS to provide short term training courses to improve the  food at  cafeterias of International Islamic University which was happily accepted.

Meanwhile, Former Professor Dr. Salvator Massa food microbiologist from Foggia University, Italy also delivered his talk  at international Islamic university on the next day of symposium.
