Iqbal International Institute of Research & Dialogue, International Islamic 
University, Islamabad held a cultural gathering on “ IIU, its History, Development and Academic & Cultural Impact” with Justice (R) Khalil ur Rehman, Former Rector IIUI, where he shared his memorable experiences of his tenure as Rector IIUI.
The evening was hosted by Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President IIUI, and those who attended the programme included Dr. Muhammad Munir, Vice President Higher Studies and Research (HSR), Deans, Directors, Foreign faculty members and high officials of the university. Justice Khalil ur Rehman discussed the core objectives, developmental phases and out-reach of IIUI since the foundation of the university.
He further expressed his feelings and reflections of the time when IIU was expanding its wings and construction of its new campus was under-going. Justice Khalil also threw light on hardships, obstacles and hindrances which were faced by IIUI during that time.
While talking about the recognition and acknowledgement of IIUI in the world, he mentioned the honorary degrees which were conferred upon Mr. Mahathir Muhammad Former Prime Minister Malaysia, Prince Hasan bin Talal of Jordan and Mr. Nelson Mandela, Former President of South Africa in 2005. He also talked about the visits of Prime Minister of Singapore, Archbishop of Canterbury and High level Delegation of Thai Army to IIUI. He emphasized that this was the evidences of high esteem that IIUI enjoyed in the world.
Former Rector II
U expressed his hope that university is on right track progressing and he vowed to contribute his utmost for the development of the university. Justice Khalil said that the university has made immense contribution towards the human resource development not only for Pakistan but for the world at large. IIUI is alsothe symbol of hopes and aspirations of Muslim Ummah, added Justice Khalil.
Earlier, Dr. Al-Draiweesh thanked the former Rector IIUI for sparing his precious time and said that the views expressed by Justice Khalil ur Rehman show us a way forward for the development of IIUI. He was of the view that under the guidance of well-wishers of IIUI like Justice Khalil ur Rehman, the university will surely find new avenues of progress. At the end, the university souvenir was presented by Dr. Al-Draiweesh President IIUI to Justice Khalil ur Rehman Khan.
