U.S. Delegation Visits IIUI Libraries

A three-member U.S. delegation visited the Central Library and Dr. Hamidullah Library at the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI).

The delegation included Dr. Gwendolyn S. Kirk, South Asia and Southeast Asian Librarian of Indiana University Bloomington; Dr. Ellen Ambrosone, South Asian Studies Librarian at Princeton University Library; and Dr. James F. Pierce, South Asian Studies Librarian at the University of Pennsylvania.

The delegation was received by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Amir, Director of the Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization (ORIC), and Dr. Muhammad Zulqarnain Akhtar, Chief Librarian, along with senior library officers at the Central Library.

During the visit, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Amir, on behalf of the President of IIUI, provided an overview of the university, while Dr. Muhammad Zulqarnain Akhtar briefed the guests about the IIUI Library System, its extensive resources, and services.

The delegation toured various sections of the Central Library, including the Iqbal Corner, Sirah Section, IT Lab, Video Conference Room, UN-IRC, Reference Collection, Theses Collection, and the library’s collection on South Asia.

Later, the delegation visited the Dr. Hamidullah Library at the Faisal Masjid Campus. Dr. Muhammad Zulqarnain Akhtar, Chief Librarian, and Dr. Muhammad Sajid Mirza, Principal Librarian, provided a detailed introduction to the library’s facilities. The delegation also explored different sections of the library.

The U.S. delegation expressed admiration for IIUI’s library infrastructure and the services offered to its patrons. They showed particular interest in the diverse and rich library resources available at IIUI.
