SPECIAL MEETING TO DISCUSS CORONAVIRUS OUTBREAK HELD

A special meeting  to discuss the  International Islamic University Islamabad’s (IIUI) response to the global pandemic and outbreak of fatal coronavirus was held here at Faisal Masjid Campus.
 The meeting was chaired by IIUI Rector Dr Masoom yasinzai and President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh. It was also attended by Vice Presidents, Directors General, Deans, Hods, senior faculty members and relevant officers.
The meeting discussed  all possible circumstances including continuation of the academic activities amid outbreak and possible closure (if announced as per government’s decision).  The participants also discussed steps to prevent and combat the spread of the coronavirus in IIUI.
The Rector apprised about the latest meeting of VCs in the wake of outbreak and  accordingly called to make feasibility report for required infrastructure, availablity and preparation for video Lectures, Online choices of teaching and measures for  Distance learning.
He said the university will follow steps and instructions of government and would accordingly comply to the circumstances.
IIU President called for joint efforts, well deliberated strategy and preparations to face any sort of situation. He said protection of students is top priority and alternative solutions are being mulled to face any emergency situation.
In the meeting, matter of purchasing Infrared temperature measuring devices and measures to seek technical support of HEC in DLE were also discussed. In the wake of prevailing situation, IIUI Vice President Dr. Muhammad Tahir Khalily told that all the activities such as meetings of statuary bodies and conferences were postponed.
On the occasion, It was agreed that avoiding crowd and raising awarness were the ultimate solutions and top priorities. IIUI leadership noted that faculty must be given capacity building sessions for internet based teaching and evaluation. They maintained that avoiding panic policy should be observed at university campuses.
Situation of IIUI hostels and quarantine for international students (in case of emergency) were also part of discussion in this high level meeting.
The meeting ended with a commitment to strengthen the LMS system, capacity building and engagement of Faculty. It was also decided that university will follow govt instructions about closing the campuses and activities will continue in routine till further orders/decision.
