SEMINAR EXPLORES IMPACT OF EXTREME WEATHER EVENTS AND CLIMATE CHANGE IN PAKISTAN

ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE DEPARTMENT AT FEMALE CAMPUS ORGANIZES SEMINAR

The Department of Environmental Science of Faculty of Sciences at Female Campus organized a seminar titled “Extreme Weather Events and Climate Change in Perspective of Pakistan”. The seminar was held in the Fatima Block Auditorium of Female Campus of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI).

The objective of conducting this seminar was to deepen students understanding of the growing challenges posed by climate change in Pakistan.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Irfan Khan, Dean Faculty of Sciences, IIUI joined the program and shared his insights on policies regarding extreme weather events in Pakistan. Dr. Irfan discussed journey of Faculty of Sciences and its initiatives for the green and clean Pakistan on this occasion.

Dr. Shaukat Ali, an International speaker associated with World Climate Research Program, WCRP, (Coordinated Regional Climate Downscaling Experiment) CORDEX Central Asia, discussed extreme events in Pakistan from science to policy and express his views regarding world climate research program during the seminar. He also highlighted environmental issues of Pakistan.

Dr. Shoaib Ahmed, focused on governance issues related to extreme weather events in Pakistan. Mr. Syed Abu Ahmad Akif, a Former member of Pakistan Administration Service, shared his experiences on “Governance challenges in meeting Climate Change issues in Pakistan”.

Dr. Syeda Maria Ali, In-Charge of the Department of Environmental Science, provided an overview of the faculty’s accomplishments on this occasion.

Dr. Sarah Amir, representing the Department of Environmental Science, expressed gratitude to the guests, speakers, faculty members and students.

The event also marked the 2nd anniversary of the Gym Youth Club, celebrated with a cake-cutting ceremony attended by faculty members and a large number of university students from various departments of the Female Campus.
