PROGRAMMES

The Critical Thinking Forum, in collaboration with the Iqbal Institute of Research and Dialogue, arranged a discussion session with the renowned scholar Dr. Akbar S. Ahmed on the 9th of December, 2013 at the International Islamic University, Islamabad. Akbar S. Ahmed, in his speech, focused on the importance of the dialogue of civilization as opposed to the previously held prominent idea of the clash of civilization. The whole speech revolved around the idea that if a nation wants to progress, its focus should be on understanding through dialogue.

BOOK LAUNCH

The Critical Thinking Forum (CTF), in collaboration with IRD, organized the launch Muslim Women Writers of the Subcontinent (1870-1950)edited by Dr. Munazza Yaqoob and Ms. Sofia Hussainon 1stApril, 2015. The panel included Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed (Executive Director, IRD), Dr. Munawar Iqbal Gondal (Dean FLL),Dr. Munazza Yaqoob (Founder & Director, CTF),Dr.NajeebaArif, (Students’ Advisor and Chairperson Department of Urdu, FmaleCampus), and Dr. Aziz Ibnul Hasan (Asst. Prof. Department of Urdu, IIUI).

A book titled Muslim Women Writers of the Sub-Continent (1870-1950) edited by Dr. MunazzaYaqoob (Department of English, IIUI & Incharge Critical Thinking Forum) and Ms. Sofia Hussain (Department of English, IIUI) was launched at International Islamic University, Islamabad on Wednesday April 01, 2015. The ceremony was attended by faculty members, the members of the Critical Thinking Forum and a large number of students. The panel comprised renowned scholars; Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad, Dr. Najeeba Arif, Dr. Aziz Ibn-ul-Hassan, and Dr. Munawar Iqbal Gondal. Dr. Munazza welcomed the guests and gave a brief introduction of the book. She said that the book would help readers to trace the roots of their socio-cultural identity and develop a connection of their past with the present.The speakers appreciated the efforts of the authors for their contribution in the field and regarded the book as a valuable record of the literary and cultural history of the Subcontinent.

Launch of the book Education. Inequalities and Freedom: A Socio-political Critique by Shahid Siddiqui was organised by CTF on December 19, 2012. Speakers for the event were Dr. Samina Amin Qadir, Ms. Afshan Huma, Dr. Munnaza Yaqoob, Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad, Ms. Noor Amna Malik.

SITTING WITH PROFESSOR AFROZ TAJ AND MR.JOHN CALDWELL
On March 08, 2011 a session with Professor Afroz Taj and John Caldwell of the Department of Asian Studies, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, USA was arranged.  Students of Department of English participated in the discussion by Mr. Taj and Mr. Caldwell by tracing out history of drama in sub-continent and history of Pakistani music from Sufi mystical music to the modern Rock forms of Music.
