RELIGIOUS MINISTER CALLS FOR POSITIVE USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA AGAINST DRUGS USE

Noor-ul-Haq Qadri, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Inter-faith Harmony urged academia and Islamic scholars to utilize social media for awareness and eradication of the menace of narcotics.

He was addressing here at International Islamic University (IIU) in a seminar and a walk activity was organized in connection with a week-long anti-drugs campaign of IIUI and to commemorate the World Mental Health Day.

The Religious Affairs Minister said that Aima can play a vital role in eradicating sinful attitudes in the society. He also stressed upon the media to aware people about dangerous results of use of drugs. He also elaborated role of Mosque in Muslim society.

The event was also addressed by Ghulam Qadir, Deputy Director General Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) who said that strict punishments are necessary to curb the use of narcotics. He added that drug addicts must be treated as patients instead of criminals and medical rehabilitation should be provided. He also emphasized upon awareness campaigns for drug usage discouragement.  He told that ANF would soon launch an application with the name of ‘ Zindagi’ which will be a detailed one regarding narcotics side-effects and rehabilitation process.

Speaking on the occasion, IIUI President Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh discussed mental health issues in the society and solution in the light of Islamic teachings. He said Islam stresses on healthy body and healthy mind. He also discussed the use of technology and its negative effects on mental health.

The event was addressed by Dr Tahir Khalily , Vice President IIUI and a clinical psychologist who briefed about IIUI’s efforts for mental health issues.  The event was also addressed by Dr. Sohail Hssan, DG Dawah, Dr. Tariq Javed , Students Advsior and Dr. Hafiz Muhammad Anwar.

The event was also attended by course participants of Islamic training program who were Aima of the armed forces. Earlier, Religious Minister, Deputy DG ANF and IIUI President also lead a walk on anti-drug campaign.
