PSYCHOLOGY DEPT. FC HOLDS PANEL DISCUSSION ON WORKPLACE WELL-BEING AND STUDETNS-LED ACTIVITIES TO MARK THE WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY

The Department of Psychology (Female Campus), Faculty of Social Sciences, International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), organized a panel discussion on “Workplace Well-Being” celebrating Mental Health Day on October 10, 2024.

According to details, focusing on raising awareness about mental health issues and promoting well-being in the workplace a panel discussion was held here at the Fatima Tuz Zohra Block Auditorium of Female Campus where students engaged with psychologists and experts during the event.

On this occasion, Dr. Sumayya Chughtai, Incharge Female Campus IIUI, shared valuable insights for the youth on handling workplace stress congratulated the organizing team of the event and lauded significant role of faculty and students.

Dr. Manzoor Khan Afridi, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences emphasized on the importance of fostering mental well-being in work communities for a healthier work environment.

The panelists included Dr. Nazia Iqbal, Chairperson of the Psychology Department; Prof. Dr. Manzoor Khan Afridi, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences; Dr. Aftab Hussain, Consultant Clinical Psychologist at Safe Care Trust International; Dr. Semra Salik, Founder and Director of Psych Care, Islamabad; Ms. Maryam Riaz, Clinical Psychologist at Hayat Rehab Clinic; Mr. Fazal Wahid, CEO of Lifeline Pvt Ltd, Islamabad; and Mr. Asad Ali Noor, CEO of Healing Door Rehab & Psychiatric Center, Islamabad. The discussion revolved around the theme of “Mental Health at the Workplace,” addressing various challenges and coping mechanisms for managing stress in professional environments.

Dr. Nazia Iqbal, Chairperson of the Psychology Department, and other faculty members, including Dr. Summaya Chughtai and Dr. Sadia Saleem Cheema also commended the students’ efforts for organizing the event sucessfully.

Faculty members Dr. Kehkashan Arouj, Dr. Musarrat Jabeen Khan, Ms. Maryam Khurshid, Dr. Amna Hassan, Ms. Kainat Waheed, Ms. Hafsa Riaz and a large number of students attended the event. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A between the students and the panelists.

Meanwhile, Department of Psychology marked World Mental Health Day organizing various students-led activities at female campus. The event focused on raising awareness about mental health and promoting well-being among students.

On the occasion, students organized stalls on topics like stress management, anger control, personality assessment, emotional well-being, and self-care. Through posters and presentations, participants highlighted the need to recognize mental health challenges and reduce stigma. Judges for the poster competition included Prof. Dr. Fouzia Janjua, Dr. Sobia Tabassum, and Ms. Attiya Abrar.

Celebrating Word Mental Health Day an awareness walk was also organized within the campus of the university in which a large number of faculty members and students participated in the awareness walk. The event concluded with a message emphasizing the importance of prioritizing mental health in educational institutions and workplaces.
