PSYCHOLOGY DEPARTMENT ORGANIZES WORKSHOP ON CYBER LAW AWARENESS

The Department of Psychology, Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS), International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) has organized a 3 days training workshop for students on Prevention Cyber bullying Perpetration and Victimization among Adolescents: Cyber Law Awareness, Internet self-efficacy and Online Lifestyle in Perspective”. For this three days workshop, Dr Humaira Jami and Dr. Sobia Masood were invited as resource persons to deliver this training workshop.

Dr. Nazia Iqbal, Chairperson Psychology Department in her welcome remarks introduced the resource persons among participants who were the students of BS 2nd Semester. Dr. Humaira Jami is an Assistant professor at National Institute of Psychology (NIP), Quaid-e-Azam University Islamabad (QAU). Her main interests are in Social Psychology and Developmental Psychopathology. Dr. Sobia Masood is as well serving as an Assistant Professor in NIP, QAU. She has done her PhD from Warwick University, UK. Her area of interests is in Gender Related Issues, Health, and Organizational Psychology.

The Resource persons gave an overview of Cyber bullying and how it can be harmful for the lives of individuals. On day I of the workshop they explained Risky online Behaviors and its different forms. Then they engaged the participants in different activities in which one was storytelling and deducing their consequences. After that a problem tree was made by participants and then final discussion was made.

On Day 2 first activity was an opening up session in which a brief overview was given by participants and after that safe and ethical use of an internet was explained and different techniques were introduced to avoid Phishing, scams and fake news. Different activities were performed by participants and then they were also taught how well being can be enhanced through positive use of internet.

On day 3 sessions, information regarding crimes and law was provided. Why reporting of harassment important was also explained to the participants. At the end of the session discussion was made among participants.

Dr. Amna Mahmood, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, IIUI joined the closing ceremony of workshop, where she formally thanked the resource persons and highlighted the importance of such overwhelming information regarding cyber bullying and cyber crimes. At the end Dr. Amna presented certificates to the participants and organizers.
