Prof. Dr. Ahmed Shuja Syed, President of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), chaired a meeting of the IIU Journals and Publications Steering Committee (IJSC) held at the university’s New Campus. The meeting, organized by the Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization (ORIC), took place in the Council Hall of the Administration Block on Tuesday.
Dr. Shuja emphasized the need to facilitate editorial boards of all IIUI journals in aligning journal publications with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) policy. The committee reviewed the status of active and dormant journals and proposed recommendations to refine the university’s policies on its journals.
He further directed ORIC to compile a comprehensive report on all university journals by coordinating with the relevant faculties and units. He also urged scheduling a capacity-building workshop for editorial board members with experts from the HEC to improve compliance with publication standards.
During the meeting, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Amir, Director ORIC and secretary of the session, presented minutes from prior sub-committee meetings. Members discussed launching new journals and addressing financial challenges faced by editorial boards.
The meeting was attended by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Zia Ul Haq, Director General of the Islamic Research Institute (IRI), Prof. Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed, Dean of the Faculty of Sciences; Prof. Dr. Fouzia Janjua, Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Literature, Prof. Dr. Manzoor Khan Afridi, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Dr. Babar Hussain, In-Charge (IIIE) and Dr. Zaheer Ahmed, Deputy Director ORIC.
