The Shari‘ah Academy of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) concluded a 15-day Law Orientation Course for Ulama and Muftis from across Pakistan. The residential course aimed to familiarize religious scholars with Pakistan’s legal, constitutional, and judicial systems, alongside key areas of international law and contemporary societal issues.
Forty scholars representing various schools of thought participated. The curriculum covered topics including family, criminal, civil, and inheritance law, Islamic banking, international law, and the interaction between theology and jurisprudence. Sessions also addressed contemporary issues such as usury, abortion, media, and modernity.
Workshops on “Blasphemy Laws in Pakistan” and “Etiquettes of Disagreement” fostered critical discussion. Study visits to the Federal Sharia Court and Council of Islamic Ideology were also organized, along with a recreational trip to Murree.
The course featured contributions from noted scholars and legal experts, including Allama Raghib Naeemi, Justice (Rtd) Sardar Muhammad Naeem, Dr. Syed Muhammad Anwar, and Dr. Tahir Mansoori. Rector IIUI and HEC Chairman Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed addressed the closing session, urging scholars to promote unity and constructive engagement.
Certificates were awarded by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akram, Director General of the Academy, who thanked contributors and staff, with special mention of Sahibzada Qamar-ul-Haq and course coordinator Dr. Abdul Hameed. Participants praised the program and called for its regular continuation.
