DR. MUSSARAT JABEEN PRESENTS RESEARCH PAPER AT 18TH EUROPEAN CONFERENCE ON DEVELOPMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY

 

Dr. Mussarat Jabeen Khan, serving as Lecturer at Department of Psychology Female Campus International Islamic University Islamabad presented her paper titled, “Implementation of SMILES Program on the Children of Depressive Parents in Pakistan” in the 18th European Conference on Developmental Psychology at University of Utrecht, Netherlands. Higher Education Commission Pakistan approved her proposal and travel grant to make her convenient to participate in the conference.

Commission (HEC). She presented the application of SMILES Program on the children of depressive parents in Pakistan. Simplifying Mental Illness plus Life Enhancement Skills (SMILES) is an Australian intervention plan for the children of mentally ill parents. It comprised of assessment material and treatment material.

Dr. Mussarat has translated, adapted and implemented this management plan first time in Pakistan on the children of depressive parents. In her paper she further traced the relationship between parental depression and behavioral problems among children. Her research results indicate that in families where mothers are suffering from depression their children have more behavioral problems than families where fathers are suffering from depression. SMILES Program was also found effective for the children of depressive parents in Pakistan. Teaching community has appreciated her effort and wished her best luck for future research endeavors
