“Violence, Psychological Trauma, and possible acute and Post-traumatic interventions in general and particularly in Pakistani Society”

There is an alarming increase in the prevalence of mental illness due to a persistent wave of violence, political turmoil and frequent changes in the social fabric worldwide.  A range of psychiatric disorders such as depression, substance and alcohol use disorder, schizophrenia,  bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and suicides committed have been reported every year in both developed and developing countries .
Pakistan, one of the developing countries and the 9th most populous country in the world, has been experiencing mental health problems since its inception. However, in the last few decades mental illness has reached to an appalling situation due to devastating calamites like current violence in Pakistani society, suicides and deliberate self harm and disruption in the social structure.
So keeping in mind the current mental health problems in Pakistan, Psychology and Mental Health Forums under the auspices of Department of Psychology, faculty of Social Sciences has planned to organize an International conference at International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI). The purpose of this event is to provoke the intellectual and academic circle for the exploration of a profound understanding of mental health issues. Conference will focus on the consequences of violence and general psychiatric problems such as anxiety, depression, OCD, somatoform disorders, neurological disorders and addictions (which is a serious problem as well) prevailed in Pakistani society. The conference will also highlight the significant role of research in educational and academic institutions in the promotion of mental health nationally in line with the international organizations.
