TWO-DAY INTERNATIONAL INTERDISCIPLINARY CONFERENCE
WOMEN UNIVERSITIES AS AGENT OF CHANGE

Date: 26th -27th November 2010

Faisal Masjid Campus, International Islamic University Islamabad

The Female Campus of the International Islamic University, Islamabad announces an international interdisciplinary conference on the role of women universities in the empowerment of women.
Conference Objectives:
This multidisciplinary conference seeks to explore the potential of Women Universities to bolster and strengthen women, a segment of society that has traditionally been marginalized. In view of an increasing realization of the indispensable role of education in the promotion of meaningful social change, this conference seeks to bring together researchers to discuss how women universities can serve as a centre-stage and launching pad for a programme to interrogate and redress gender inequality, to reduce the gender gap, to formulate a pedagogy which instills critical selfhood and consciousness in women and to promote higher education and skill development in women.

The inception of a separate Female Campus in IIUI was rooted in a vision to provide women with an avenue for development, advancement and empowerment. Thus in a groundbreaking initiative, IIUI established the Female Campus with its own academic, research and administrative setup, providing employment opportunities to skilled female professionals and also opening avenues of education to women from all strata of society, particularly the conservative segment for whom the co-education setup was not acceptable. In its silver jubilee year, one of the many achievements of IIUI being celebrated is the setting up of the Female Campus. In the light of the success of this venture, the present conference seeks to explore the possibilities of similar initiatives and their potential to transform and alter the current state of women.
