DR. AL-DRAIWEESH TERMS STUDENTS FUTURE OF UMMAH; PM LAPTOP SCHEME, 3816 LAPTOPS DISTRIBUTED AMONG IIUI STUDENTS

President International Islamic University Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh said students are the precious asset of Muslim Ummah, a prosperous future is associated with them. He was addressing the students on the occasion of distribution Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme. Director General (AF&P) Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja, Director Academics Shagufta Haroon and other officials also attended the ceremony. Al-Draiweesh while congratulating the laptop holders paid high thank to Government of Pakistan, Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Muhammad Nawaz Shrif and Higher Education Commission on contribution and positive steps taken for the betterment of students and higher education.

He said, empowerment of students with latest technology is highly appreciated step which will facilitate students in their research work. Dr. Al-Draiweesh termed Pakistani students full of talent, abilities and are best of in their profession. He further said that Pakistanis are considered best professional in the world; they are serving in every field of life with dignity and honor. Dr. Al-Draiweesh wished to facilitate every student on maximum level and to provide excellent educational environment in campus. He also advised students to stay away from pessimist thinking, and always discourage negative attitude of extremism and fanaticism. While briefing, Ghulzar Ahmed Khwaja said, in the first round of Prime Minister’s laptop scheme distribution, 3816 laptops have been awarded to MS PhD students of Islamic University.

IIUI: NA TOLD, AUTHORITIES WERE NOT INVOLVED, ISRAELI CULTURAL STALL ISSUE, CH. M ASHRAF MNA

Ch. Muhammad Ashraf senior parliamentarian and Member National Assembly told while calling attention notes in the National Assembly that no such involvement of IIUI authorities has been found in so called display of Israeli cultural stall at Models United Nation event last yesterday. He went on saying that he personally visited International Islamic University where he met President Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh got first hand information about the event. He made Assembly clear that some students tried to establish cultural stall without the permission of university but it was immediately stopped of authorities. He on floor of the house, ascertained that it was not preplanned and authorities particularly its Rector and President were neither informed nor were involved in giving permission of this event. However, in his speech on the floor Ch. Muhammad lauded the efforts and contributions of IIUI for the promotion of Islamic education and services of Islam not only for Pakistan and but for whole Muslim Ummah.

President IIUI announces 50k dollars for student hostels

Islamabad: President International Islamic University Islamabad Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh has announced that 50-thousand dollars have been allocated for the maintenance of the student hostels while maintenance work in Faisal Mosque campus would commence soon with the cooperation of Saudi Arabian government.
He was addressing to the general body meeting of Academic Staff Association (ASA) of the university. The meeting was also attended by Vice President Higher Studies and Research Dr. Tahir Mansoori, Director General AF&P Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja, President ASA Atique Zafar, Vice President ASA Dr. Muhammad Akram, Vice President (female) Ghazala Ghalib, General Secretary Dr. Syed Hasnain Abbas Naqvi, Finance Secretary Haseeb Sajjad and other ASA officials.
Dr. Al-Draiweesh said that a cafeteria for the academicians is near to its completion while projects of central mosque, teachers’ residential colony and a cultural centre are on top of the list in future plans. He added that university is working on tits objective of internationalization and letters to the heads of many international organization have been sent to expand bilateral ties.
Speaking on the occasion, Attique Zafar felicitated Rector IIUI and President IIUI on their appointments. He also apprised regarding the problems and demands which were raised from the forum of ASA. He said teachers are the real asset of the university and they can provide best minds top the society.
In response, President IIUI formed a committee comprising of Mr. Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja and Dr. Tahir Mansoori.

IIUI: Islamic trading program for female teachers concludes at DCW

A ten-day teachers training Islamic program for female teachers concluded here at Dawah Centre for Women. The program was attended by the 20 female teachers of Baluchistan, Sindh, Azad Kashmir and Punjab.
Participants were given lectures on various important subjects by the renowned personalities while visits to the various places of Islamabad were also scheduled.
The concluding ceremony was presided by Deputy Director General Islamic Research Institute Dr. Sohail Hassan, Deputy Director General Dawah Academy Dr. Imtiaz Zafar, Incharge DCW Shagufta Omar, coordinator program Faryal ambreen and the participant teachers.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sohail said this program would be proved as vital addition in the knowledge of teachers. He said Prophet (PBUH) himself was a teacher and now practicing his teachings would make us successful. He said teachers are the real asset who can make a constructive society.
Dr. Imtiaz Zafar, in his remarks felicitated DCW sttaf on organizing a successful program. He hoped that the teachers would practice knowledge in the practical life.
Shagufta Omar thanked the chief guests and gave details of the program and apprised regarding all the academic activities.
At the end, course completion certificates were awarded to the participants.

CONFERENCE ON ISLAM AND WEST CONCLUDES AT IIUI;
ISLAM ENDORSES DIALOGUE WITH NON MUSLIMS, MOULANA SHERANI

Islam sets parameters, guidelines of dialogue and exchange of thoughts with non Muslims. The constructive formation of an ideology brought up on the bases of strong set of beliefs. These views were expressed by Muolana Muhammad Khan Sherani Chairman Council of Islamic Ideology Pakistan on concluding ceremony of two day national conference titled” Islam and West; Mutual Understandings, Needs and Demands“ organized by Iqbal International Institute of Research and Dialogue (IIIRD) International Islamic University Islamabad with the collaboration with Council of Islamic Ideology Pakistan. On the occasion Executive Director IIIRD Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed, renowned Scholars, Writers of good fame including deans, directors, chairpersons of different departments and large number of students from university and madaaras from twin cities were present.
Moulana Sherani argued” We offer refined and prosper system to West, which is according to the nature of man that is only Islam, as there is no constraint, if adopted for human being“. While referring to UN report which describes more than eighty percent of world population is God believers Moulana said Islam endorses dialogue with all on similarities found in religions as the conscious, argues and Ijtehad are main pillars of dialogue. Chairman CII urged the gap between Shriah experts and Contemporary study experts should be bridged and close interaction is key of unity. Moulana Sherani put a question to Western think tanks what harms West feel from Islamic political system; it should be discussed in dialogue along with different aspects of humanism. Dr. Mumtaz in his concluding remarks, thanked to all the guests who participated in the conference with dedication to make it successful. He said quality of research papers presented in different sessions enlightened the participants in real sense which also set a guide lines. The conference had also different interactive sessions in which number of Scholars, Ulemas including Professor Qibla Ayaz, Mr. Mateen Ahmed Sahah, Mr. Khursheed Nadeem, Professor Dr. Muhammad AlGhazali, Moulana Zahid ur Rashidi, Moulana Ammar Khan Nasir, Moulna Mufti Muhammad Zahid, Moulana Mufti Muhammad Saeed Khan, Moulana Qazi Muhammad Haroon and others from across the country presented their research papers that covered different aspects of Islam and West. At the end, Dr. Mumtaz and Moulana Sherani distributed conference shields among participants and organizers.

IIUI PRESS RELEASE
Faculty of Management Sciences (Female Campus), International Islamic University Islamabad was holding Women Model United Nations 2014 where a few students arranged a stall for Israel without the knowledge and permission of the University authorities. IIUI strongly condemns the incident and no sooner did they come to know about the matter than the programme was cancelled without any further delay. The authorities have also issued the orders of strict disciplinary action against those responsible for the act. University intends to clarify that the exhibition was not the part of the permitted programme while, on the other hand, a number of resolutions were passed against the Israeli brutalities in Palestine during the first day proceedings of Women Model United Nations. Israel’s oppressive regime and cruel attacks against Gazans were condemned in clear terms in those resolutions. One of the resolutions suggests the cancellation of Israel’s membership of the United Nations.

The University also wants to clarify that it considers the Palestine issue as the issue concerning the whole of Muslim Ummah and the University’s stance on the issue is same as the stance of Government of Pakistan and the rest of the Muslim world. A number of Palestinian students have graduated from IIUI and many of them are still studying here. A Palestinian student was the participant in the said programme and she, along with her other group members, highlighted the Israeli atrocities against the Palestinians.

In the meeting of higher authorities of IIUI on Sunday, the orders of the suspension of those responsible for the incident have been issued. A high powered committee has also been constituted to probe the matter in detail and in the light of the recommendations of the said committee the future strategy would be evolved to deal with such matters. The university administration would like to further explain, the President IIUI, Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh did not visit any cultural exhibition at the sideline of the program and the stall exhibiting Israeli cultural was arranged without his permission and knowledge.

PRESIDENT IIUI CALLS ON SARDAR MUHAMMAD YOUSAF

President International Islamic University Islamabad Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh called on Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Sardar Muhammad Yousaf where matters pertaining to religious education and role of educational institutions in the society for maintaining peace and stability in the society were discussed in the meeting.

Sardar Muhammad Youasaf said that organized Hajj arrangements and successful flight operations were achievements for the government and Saudi Arabia’s cooperation in this regard was no doubt appreciable.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh said educational institutions play significant role to curb the challenge of violence and IIUI is committed for the cause by nurturing young minds while providing quality education integrated with teachings of Islam. He reiterated his resolve that IIUI would keep playing its role for creating a milieu of peace in the country.

He also lauded the arrangements made by the ministry for facilitating the pilgrims during Hajj. He said due to the efforts of Sardar Muhammad Yousaf, this year arrangements and steps were admirable.

ISLAM IS RELIGION OF PEACE HAS NO ROOM FOR TERRORISM. ABDUL QADIR BALOCH

Federal Minister Abdul Qadir Baloch said Islam for centuries has been religion of peace, tolerance and has no room for terrorism, fanaticism and extremism. Islam and Muslims have nothing with current spell of terrorism and intolerance in the world. World is not ready to accept Pakistan nuclear program. These views were expressed, while addressing on two day national conference titled ”Islam and West; Mutual Understandings, Needs and Demands“ organized by Iqbal International Institute of Research and Dialogue (IIIRD) International Islamic University Islamabad with the cooperation of Council of Islamic Ideology Pakistan.

On the occasion, President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, Chairman Council of Islamic Ideology Muolana Muhammad Khan Sherani, Executive Director IIIRD Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed including deans, directors, chairpersons of different departments and large number of students from university and madaaras from twin cities were present. The conference had different discussion sessions in which number of renowned Scholars, Ulemas from across the country presented their research papers covered different aspects of Islam and West.

Federal Minister said Islamic teachings are very clear, which has no room for terrorism, extremism in any form and with planned conspiracy, extremism and prejudiced sort of attitude being associated with Islam. He said, historian are witnessed that Muslims ruled over West and Europe for centuries and left unprecedented legacy of prosperity and peace.” A strong propaganda against Islam and Muslims has initiated to divide and make them weak“Abdul Qadir said while stressing on Ulemas’ role for unity and harmony among all the sects. Federal Minister said Ulema should set sectarian differences aside and show full religious harmony to counter western propaganda against Islam. Muolana Muhamad Khan Sherani said peace is dependent on dialogue and mutual understanding than fight. He further was the view that a comprehensive dialogue between Islam and West is need of the hour to seek inclusive system for humanity, proposing that Islam is the only religion which has capacity to address all the matters of life. He also set some basic points for debate, dialogue and research between Islam and West.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh while thanking all the guests and audience said Islam is only religion which offers universal values that can be adopted by every religion without any amendment. He said Islamic University offers conducive and peaceful environment of study to students, discourage the attitude of violence and extremism. Dr. Al-Draiweesh further said, Islam has nothing with terrorism, extremism and such negative concept which against the humanity. In his welcome note, Dr. Mumtaz paid great tribute to all the guests and participants and congratulated to organizers on success of the conference while vowing to organize such more events in this nature.

BOT, FINANCE & PLANNING COMMITTEE MEMBERS VISIT IIUI

Members of the Board of Trustees and Finance & Planning Committee visited International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) where they met with Rector IIUI Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, President IIUI Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh, Director Generals, Deans and Directors.

The members include Mr. Qaiser Shiekh, MNA, Member BoT, IIUI, Mr. Mehboob Ellahi, Member BoT, IIUI, Mr. Mahmood Ellahi, Member, Finance & Planning Committee, IIUI. The members were given a detailed briefing by Director General AF&P Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja regarding the IIUI and its units while a briefing was also given on going projects in the university.

Speaking in the meeting, Mr. Mehboob Ellahi stressed for frequent meetings of board members. Dr. Masoom Yasiznai said on the occasions that university is working on vital issues such as Polio eradication, he also informed regarding a recent activity in Baluchistan by the Iqbal Research Institute of the university. He also gave a detailed overview of the newly launched Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Basic Sciences at IIUI. Dr. Al-Draiweesh said university administration is lucky to have members of such great caliber and administration would keep seeking guidance from them.

In the detailed briefing regarding IIUI, Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja told that university is having almost 2,000 foreign students from more than 40 countries of the world.

IIUI TO REMAIN CLOSED ON NOVEMBER 3-4

The International Islamic University, Islamabad and its constituent units would remain closed on November 3-4.
According to an officer order approved by the President IIUI, in connection with Ashura on 9th & 10th Moharram-ul-Haram 1436 (AH) the university would remain closed.

NATION UNITED FOR KASHMIR CAUSE: PERVAIZ RASHID

Federal Minister for Information Pervaiz Rashid said on Monday that Pakistani nation is united for Kashmir Cause and Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) government has always taken a principled stand on Kashmir issue.

This he said while addressing a program titled “27 October Black Day: Indian Invasion & Planned Attempt to Flood Kashmir” held at International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) with the collaboration of Department of Politics & IR and Youth Forum for Kashmir.

“We believe that the issue be resolved in accordance with the UN resolutions keeping in view the aspirations of the Kashmiri people,” the minister said. He added Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif effectively presented Pakistan’s stance at the recent 69th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session. Pervaiz Rashid reminded the world community about the promises made with the Kashmiris for resolving the issue under the United Nations Security Council resolutions.

Talking on Line of Control violations, Minister said that such happenings from the Indian side would effect the peace in the region. He urged the nation and youth to put aside personal difference and asked to stand united for the solution of disputes such as Kashmir.

He vowed that govt would keep bringing the Kashmir issue on international forums while he termed its solution as vital for the betterment of region.

Speaking in the program, Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf’s Information secretary Shireen Mazari said Kashmir is an international dispute which demands a clear cut policy from the government. She was of the view that sacrifices of the Kashmiris would never be forgotten. She also condemned the violation of human rights in Kashmir. Dr. Shahid Masood, famous TV analysts urged for the principled stance on the dispute while saying that it was a decisive moment to devise clear policies on such issues.

Iltaf Hussain Wani, a veteran Kashmir Freedom Fighter said India is not allowing external aid while 1.5 million families in the occupied Kashmir have been effected from the recent floods. He also lauded the Pakistan Army’s befitting response to Indian aggression on LoC.

In his presidential address to the program, Dr. Muhammad Bashir Khan, Vice President Academics, IIUI, said Kashmir is a significant dispute and Kahmiris must be given the prerogative of self determination. He vowed that IIUI would keep supporting Kashmiris in the freedom movement. Dr. Tahir Mansoori, Vice President higher studies and research said that we would have to change our attitudes regarding Kashmir dispute. He added that the issue should not be neglected. The program was also addressed by Head Department of P&IR Dr. Manzoor Khan Afridi, Head P&IR (female) Dr. Noor Fatima, Dr. Saif Abbasi and other IIUI scholars.

FOREIGN SCHOLARS VISIT IIUI, CALL ON PRESIDENT IIUI

A group of foreign scholars visited International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), called on President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh and met with Vice President Academics and Deans.

The delegation was headed by Dr. Mahmood Al Mubarak, Director Centre for International Legal Studies Saudi Arabia while other members include Mr Shah Muhammad Waliullah, Islamic media personality in Bangladesh, Mr Mohammad Shoaib Ministry of religious education, Kabul, Afghanistan, Mr Murtaza Dawlat Muhammad, Afghanistan, Prof. Khadim Mbacke, Dakkar, Senegal (TBC).

In the meeting with President IIUI, the delegates were apprised by the President IIUI regarding the university and he also informed them about the academies, faculties and the research work being held at university.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh said that recent conference on humanitarian law organized by IIUI and ICRC is a visible example of the university’s vision of internationalization. He said IIUI doors are wide open for the mutual cooperation with all the countries while IIUI would keep providing a milieu of peace to students of Muslim Ummah and it would keep playing its role in dissemination of Islam’s message of peace. The delegates thanked President IIUI for the warm hospitality and termed the recent conference as a vital step for the service of mankind. Later, a luncheon was hosted by the President IIUI in the honour of the guest scholar.

Earlier, the guests were received by the Vice President Academics Dr. Mohammad Bashir Khan, Dean Faculty of Shariah and Law Dr. Muhammad Tahir Hakeem, Deputy Dean Islamic Studies Dr. Haroon ur Rasheed and Dean faculty of language and literature Dr. Munawar Iqbal Godal.

Dr. Bahir, while apprising them regarding the university said IIUI is heading towards the destination of success with a great pace as it has been working the objective of internationalization. He said IIUI is a hub of multi-cultural environment where students of above 40 countries are studying while almost 50 foreign faculty members are also teaching at university.

TWO DAY CONFERENCE CONCLUDES: IHL, ISLAMIC LAW ON SAME ROUTE OF HUMANITARIAN SERVICES; VIOLATION OF THESE LAWS IMPACT ADVERSELY

A call for ensuring respect of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) provisions and for taking appropriate measures to put an end to breach thereof and prosecution of perpetrators; A call upon Muslim scholars and experts in Islamic Law to take into account to further examine IHL rules, in comparison with relevant norms of Islamic Law. It is also of paramount importance to pursue contemporary development. These were the key recommendations made by the two day international conference on “Humanitarian Action in the World of today-Challenges and Perspectives in the Light of Shariah and Humanitarian law”. It is pertinent to mention here that the moot was jointly organized by International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) & The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Pakistan.

The conference further recommended that highlighting the values of humanitarian principles included in Islamic Law and IHL, notably, humanity and distinction between combatant and noncombatants as well as civilian properties and military objectives. It is equally important to stress that the violation of these principles impact adversely the humanitarian services as a whole and harm protected categories. The last day of the conference witnessed different comprehensive sessions which discussed” Rules for the preservation of humanity in Islamic Law and Humanitarian Law, Direct participation to hostilities & protection of civilians during wars: Humanitarian Law and Islamic Law perspectives, Safety of Medical Personnel and facilities under Islamic Law and IHL, Challenges for Medical Personnel in Conflict Zones, Neutral and independent humanitarian action.

The concluding session jointly chaired by the President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh and Mr. Ronald Ofteringer, while all the four sessions of last day chaired by Mufti Muhammad Rafi Usmani, Head Dar-ul-Uloom Korangi, Karachi, Maulana Abdul Malik, President Rabit-Tul-Madaaris Al-Islamiyah, Pakistan, Hojjatolislam Ahmed Moballeghi, Hawzeh Ilmiyyah, Qom Iran, Dr. Aly Ahmed Mohammad Mishal former president, federation of Islamic Medical Associations and Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed Executive Director Iqbal International Institute of Research and Dialogue IIUI respectively. In the conference, it was focused that Shariah and IHL offer same route to protect and preserve the humanitarian actions and services; teachings of Islam are clear message of humanism which provides full cover to Muslim and non Muslim without any discriminations. The participants agreed on the fact, neutrality and impartiality are vital elements of humanitarian services, which needs to be taken great care, as the neutrality is one of biggest challenges. They also maintained a strong relationship and coordination among charity organizations are necessary factors while countering the element of partiality.

The participants demanded the rescue workers are undoubted great people; they are on every level should be encouraged and fully supported to make their moral high. It is to be highly required to spread awareness of humanitarian action, principles and foundations of this action through publications, brochures and social media. Participants also urged follow up of the recommendations of the conference to make it practical, terming it need of the hour. At the end, in concluding remarks President IIUI Dr. Al-Draiweesh and Reto Stocker Head of Delegation ICRC Pakistan paid tribute to all participants wholeheartedly whose efforts made the conference successful.

PRESIDENT IIUI CALLS ON CHAIRMAN HEC

President International Islamic University Islamabad Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh called on Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) and discussed issues of common interests.

Dr. Mukhtar said all efforts and endeavours for betterment of education will bring fruits only with the cooperation and sincere support of wise educationists. He lauded the role of IIUI for the promotion of education. He hoped that soon university would make its prominent place among the ranks of leading universities of the world. Dr. Mukhtar also felicitated President IIUI for the appointment of Dr. Masoom Yasinzai as IIU Rector.

Speaking on the occasion President IIUI said University is keen for providing quality education to the students of Muslim Ummah in the lights of Islamic teachings. He also apprised him regarding the ongoing educational activities in the university. President IIUI also felicitated Dr. Mukhtar on performing Hajj.

At the end, universities crest was present by Dr. Al-Draiweesh to Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed.

PRESIDENT IIUI REVIEWS CONSTRUCTION WORK AT NEW CAMPUS

President International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh visited the site of teaching staff cafeteria and reviewed the construction work.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh directed to expedite the work and stressed that the building should be completed in minimum period. He said that IIUI administration is keen for the university development. He also directed all the concerned officials to work with unity to complete all developmental works of university. He added the teachers of university are precious asset of the institution and it’s our top priority to provide facilities to the teaching staff.

  

FRANCOIS BUGNION CALLS ON DR. AL-DRAIWEESH

Member International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Francois Bugnion called on President International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh at his office.

In the meeting, issues of mutual interests were discussed while both the personalities vowed to enhance bilateral cooperation. Speaking on the occasion, Francois Bugnion said Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are playing vital role in service of mankind. He apprised the President IIUI regarding ICRC activities and relief works in Pakistan.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh said human service is one of the top priorities of university. He said Islam is religion of peace and IIUI would keep working for dissemination of this message. President IIUI also assured that cooperation with ICRC would be continued in future.

At the end, Dr. Al-Draiweesh also presented university crest to Francois Bugnion.

MOOT ON HUMANITARIAN LAW KICKS OFF, PARTICIPANTS URGE FOR TERMINATION OF WAR CRIMES

Islam has great contribution to the humanitarian law; most of its concepts have been introduced by Muslims while extremism and violation of the humanitarian laws have become the leading challenges of the hour which must be dealt with constructive dialogue and active involvement of international criminal court.

These were the views of the participants of a two-day International Conference titled “Humanitarian Action in the World of today-Challenges and Perspectives in the Light of Shariah and Humanitarian law” which commenced here on Wednesday. The two-day moot is being jointly organized by International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) & The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Pakistan.

“Islam is a religion of peace and it invites towards brotherhood, Islam has established the bases of humanitarian work in all circumstances such as impositions of emergencies of armed disputes”, said President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh while addressing the opening session of the conference which was joined by the ICRC top leadership and national, foreign scholars and experts. He added that humanitarian work is an authentic Islamic objective which is encouraged by Islam in its holy book and also by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Humanitarian work is a noble aspect of the mankind and humanitarian workers deserve appreciation and reverence, he maintained.

Mr. Retro Stocker, ICRC Head of Delegation, Pakistan said in his speech that the main objective of the this conference is to promote an understanding of the Islamic Law applicable during armed conflict and the compatibility of international humanitarian law with it. “The conference would provide an opportunity to discuss the importance and relevance of the concept of neutral and impartial humanitarian action in a divided and protracted world” he added.

The participants took keen interest in the speech of Dr. Mahmood Al Mubarak, Director Centre for International Legal Studies Saudi Arabia who also criticized western countries for violating the international human law such as inappropriate dealing with the prisoners in the Iraq war. He urged international criminal court to work more for the termination of war crimes while stressing that countries which violate the laws being strong, should be pressurized and IHL must be implemented on equal bases.

“War does not mean unlimited destruction and killing of civilians, it is vital to have dialogue on termination of war crimes and cooperation for saving the lives of war victims, said veteran ICRC member Francois Bugnion, who is working with ICRC more than 45 years.

The first session of the conference was “Rules of the preservation of humanity in Islamic Law and Humanitarian Law” which was presided by Mufti Muhammad Rafi Usmani, Head Dar-ul-Uloom Korangi, Karachi. While concluding the session he said Islamic Shariah introduced humanitarian laws thousands years ago while ICRC’s work also deserves appreciation. He urged international community to work together for providing resources to ICRS and he also urged ICRC to convey war crimes to UN and its institutions. Second session was dedicated to the topic “Direct participation to hostilities and protection of civilians during wars” which was presided by Maulana Abdul Malik, President Rabit-Tul-Madaaris Al-Islamiyah, Pakistan. The session was also addressed by Dr.Tayeb Munir of IIUI and various renowned scholars. The first day was also joined by various scholars and administrative officers IIUI.

The conference would conclude today (Thursday) in which indigenous and foreign scholars would discuss vital topics.

PRESIDENT IIUI HOSTS DINNER IN HONOUR OF INT’L CONFERENCE GUESTS

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Al-Draiweesh welcomed distinguished guests and termed the conference as a vital step in the service of mankind. He said the conference is an omen of strong mutual cooperation between IIUI and ICRC and vowed that such cooperation would remain continue in future. He urged the participants to disseminate Islam’s message of peace.

The ICRC representative thanked President IIUI for arranging such a prestigious event in honour of the guests and assured that ICRC would be found keen in regard of mutual cooperation in future.

It is worth mentioning that conference is aimed at promoting the understanding and knowledge of rules of Islamic Law for Armed conflict and to highlight the compatibility of modern Humanitarian Law with Islam.

The IIUI and the ICRC have already organized a first International Conference on “The Protection of War Victims in the Light of Islamic Law and IHL” in Islamabad in 2004, in which scholars and leaders from the Middle East and South Asia participated.

PRESIDENT IIUI HOSTS EID MILLAN PARTY

MAURITIAN HIGH COMMISSIONER CALLS ON RECTOR, PRESIDENT IIUI

High Commissioner of Mauritius Mohammad Rashad Daureeawo visited International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) Tuesday, called on Rector IIUI Prof. Dr. Masoom Yasinzai and President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh where issues of common interests and matters for strengthening bilateral relations were discussed.

During meeting of Mauritian high commissioner and IIUI Rector both the personalities agreed that bilateral cooperation in the field of education would pave the way for improving educational standards. Rashad Daureeawo said his government is keen for strengthening ties with the Pakistani educational institutions. Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, while apprising him about IIUI told that university is a unique hub of cultural diversity where students are being nurtured in balanced and harmonious milieu. He added that IIUI is not only providing quality education in Islamic subjects but its facilities are also providing quality education in sciences. He also assured that he would play his role for mutual cooperation between IIUI and Mauritian universities.

During the meeting of Dr. Al-Draiweesh and Rashad Daureeawo, the point of signing MoUs for extending mutual ties was agreed. Rashad Daureeawo said on the occasion that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are playing key role for providing quality knowledge to the students of Muslim Ummah. He also lauded the role of IIUI and showed keen interest for taking measures regarding exchange of delegations from both sides. He also invited President IIUI to visit his country.

President IIUI, speaking on the occasion said IIUI doors are wide open for the students of entire world. He added that IIUI is building balanced minds who acquire contemporary education at the varsity with a blend of Islamic teachings. IRD TO ORGANIZE TWO DAYS NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ISLAM AND WEST; MUTUAL UNDERSTANDINGS, NEEDS AND DEMANDS

Iqbal International Institute of Research and Dialogue International Islamic University Islamabad is going to hold two days national conference titled” Islam and West; Mutual Understandings, needs and demands“ with the cooperation of Council of Islamic Ideology Pakistan. The conference will be held on 28, 29 October respectively at Quaid e Azam Auditorium Faisal Masjid Campus IIUI. In the conference, mutual relationships and behaviors between Islam and West will be reviewed in detail.

PAKISTAN READING PROJECT TRAINING PROGRAM HELD AT EDUCATION DEPARTMENT

A three days teacher training program by USAID Pakistan Reading project was organized at Department of Education of International Islamic University. Training sessions which were held in Fatima-tu-Zahra block of female campus were aimed to introduce the training modules developed by Pakistan Reading Project for Associate Degree in Education (ADE) program. All faculty members of department of education attended this training.

Training sessions were joined and inaugurated by Dean FSS Prof. Dr. N. B. Jumani and Dy. Dean, Chairperson Department of Education Dr. Samina Malik. They stressed upon the importance of arranging such type of teacher training programs for university teachers and vowed to hold such activities in future also.

Meanwhile, an orientation session for fall 2014 semester was held at department of education. The event was organized in auditorium Fatima-tu-Zahra block female campus. Dean FSS Prof. Dr. N. B. Jumani, Dy. Dean FSS, Chairperson Department of Education Dr. Samina Malik, all faculty members and new students attended the ceremony. On the occasion, Dr. N. B. Jumani enlightened the students with his inspirational and motivational speech about professional degrees in Education and their future prospects. IIUI OFFICERS GET PROMOTIONS

On the recommendations made by the Departmental Promotion Committee, the Board of Governors International Islamic University approved promotion of as many as five officers in its 74th meeting to next grade. The name of officers who got promotion included in the list of promotees issued by HR department, two officers got promoted from deputy director to additional director are Mr. Muhammad Jamil and Ms. Nuzhat Zareen. Furthermore Mr. Ashfaq Ali and Mr. Munir Baig promoted to deputy director, While Mr. Muhmmad Nawaz promoted to assistant director and Mr. Miraj ul Hassan promoted to private secretary.

DR. TAHIR MANSORI APPOINTED AS VICE PRESIDENT OF HIGHER STUDIES AND RESEARCH IIUI

Professor Dr. Tahir Mansori has been appointed as Vice President of Higher Studies and Research International Islamic University Islamabad. The appointment made by the Board of Governors IIUI on the recommendations of President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh. Dr. Mansori has been serving Shariah Academy as Director General since 2011 which he will continue. Dr. Mansori has well national and international repute in academia and research, especially in the field of Islamic Banking, Islamic Jurisprudence, Islamic commercial law, Muslim Family Law and gender relations.

Earlier, Dr. Mansoori was a Dean of Faculty of Shariah & Law in the University. Dr. Mansoori is a member of the Task Force on Islamic Banking, State Bank of Pakistan and member of the Religious Board, Mudarabah Companies. He has contributed 31 research articles in English, Arabic and Urdu languages and his nine scholarly books have been published. Dr. Tahir Mansori has been a resource person in number of national and international conferences and seminars. He has supervised eight Ph.D and 20 M.Phill/LL.M. theses.

IRI TO HOLD NATIONAL CONFERENCE IN NOVEMBER

Islamic Research Institute of International Islamic University has decided to organize a national conference on Quran Studies which would be held from November 11 to November 13.

The conference would be attended by indigenous and foreign scholars who would present thesis and reviews on various topics including literary and research work, Promotion of Quranic comprehension in women, Problems in comprehension of Quran.

Meanwhile, a gathering to condole for the death of the relatives of various employees was also held at Old Campus of the university which was attended by officials of Dawah Academy, Shariah Academy and New Campus. GERMAN DELEGATION VISITS IIUI, ATTENDS WORKSHOP TITLED “IMPACT OF SOCIAL MEDIA ON URDU SHORT STORY”

A two day workshop on “Impact of Social Media on Urdu Short Story” concluded here at International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) in which twenty member German student delegation from University of Erfurt Germany, lead by Dr. Jamal Malik also participated, where evolution, background and growth of Urdu short story, writing techniques, themes and impact of social media were discussed by the renowned experts.

This is worth mentioning here that the workshop was jointly organized by Department of Urdu (Female) IIUI and Department of Muslim Cultural History and Religion, University of Erfurt, Germany.

Jamal Malik, who is holding the chair for Islamic Studies at the University of Erfurt addressed the participant, discussed the various aspects, phases and features of Urdu short story. While admiring organization of this interactive workshop Dr. Jamal termed it a vital mile stone to create a milieu of dialogue and interaction between East and West. He also paid tribute to Islamic University on organizing such fruitful activity and encouraged students to participate more to broaden their vision and exposure.

Mrs. Bushra Malik from University of Erfurt, Dr. Nelofar Iqbal, Director Female Campus IIUI Dr. Zaitoon Begum, Head Urdu Dept female Dr. Najiba Arif, also addressed the concluding ceremony. WORKSHOP ON “IMPACT OF SOCIAL MEDIA ON URDU SHORT STORY” KICKS OFF

A two day workshop on “Impact of Social Media on Urdu Short Story” commenced Monday at International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) where historical background of Urdu short story, writing techniques, themes and impact of social media on it were discussed by the renowned experts.

The workshop is being jointly organized by Department of Urdu (Female) IIUI and University of Erfurt, Germany. On the first day speakers including Mrs. Bushra Malik from University of Erfurt, Head Urdu Dept Najiba Arif, Dr. Sanahat Mushtaq, Dr. Humaira Ashfaq, Summaya Shad and Ms. Shadab delivered lectures on various topics.

“Social media can be a source of meaningful changes in the society as it is the most vital way to disseminate the voice for any objective” said Mrs. Bushra Malik who is attached to Urdu teaching in Germany and also head and originator of Young Women Writers Forum in Pakistan. She added that societies which face dissociation from literature and pen ultimately lose their social values.

Mrs. Bushra also discussed Egypt revolution, role of social media in recent Scotland referendum and its role in women empowerment. She stressed upon the participants to deeply study the Urdu classical literature and lives of the writer while hoping it would be helpful for young writers to bring constructive literature in front of society.

Earlier, Najiba Arif apprised the participants regarding aims and objectives of the workshop and said renowned personalities have been invited in the workshop and it would be an immense opportunity for creative students to broaden their exposure.

Concluding ceremony of the workshop will be held today (Tuesday) at central library of the varsity at 10 am which will be presided by Director General (AF&P) IIUI Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja while Director female campus Dr. Zaitoon Begum and experts from Germany will also participate in the ceremony.

IIUI SPOKESPERSON DENOUNCES NEWS ITEM REGARDING MISMANAGEMENT AT VARSITY

In response to a news item pertaining to the Daily Dawn News item titled, “Mismanagement Mars Islamic University’s affairs” by Kashif Abbasi, the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) spokesman said that news item does not represent actual facts while at this juncture when the university has recently achieved dynamic leadership in the form of appointments of its higher leadership and gearing up to further expedite its progress pace, news story like the one published in Daily Dawn is indeed most unfortunate and contrary to the facts.

The spokesperson has categorically stated that Academic and administrative affairs of International Islamic University Islamabad are being run very smoothly and recent appointments of President and Rector on regular basis is a clear indicator in this regard.

The spokesperson affirmed that IIUI administration is fully cognizant of its responsibilities being most important educational institution of Muslim Ummah. It has been taking all requisite steps to ensure the provision of quality education while all faculties and departments of the International Islamic University are being headed by senior faculty members having excellent academic record and robust administrative experience. He further stated that there was lack of senior professors in some faculties due to government’s ban on jobs (which is lifted only recently) and administrative responsibilities were given to Deputy Deans as an interim measure.

Responding to the allegation of Deputy Dean’s posting against the rules, IIUI spokesperson clarified that position of Deputy Dean is a statutory position and in its recent meeting, the Board of Trustees of International Islamic University had fully endorsed it. While indicating the misreporting in the news item he added that the Faculty of Basic & Applied Sciences is headed by a fulltime Professor and likewise senior faculty members are looking after the affairs of Faculty of Arabic and Faculty of Languages and Literature. IIUI spokesperson said now when ban on jobs is lifted, the University administration is keen to fill permanent positions through a fair and competitive process.

The University Spokesperson, while referring to the point mentioned regarding the inappropriate appointment of the head of physics at female campus, clarified Department of Physics in Female Campus is headed by faculty member who specializes in nanotechnology and this perfectly matches with the specialization of Physics program at IIUI.

The IIUI spokesperson further clarified a statement attributed to Rector IIUI Dr Masoom Yasinzai regarding his recent request to Saudi authorities. Dr Masoom Yasinzai indeed said that during Board of Trustee’s recent meeting held in Saudi Arabia, university has requested to Board members to help IIUI in approaching senior faculty members.

It is important to mention this year a record number of students have applied for admissions in dozens of degree programs across all faculties of the university which clearly reflects the confidence of students and parents in university.

IIUI CELEBRATES RECTOR’S APPOINTMENT, DR. MASOOM YASINZAI APPOINTED AS VARSITY RECTOR

Professor Dr. Masoom Yasinzai has been appointed as Rector International Islamic University Islamabad while a wave of happiness was witnessed Friday amid celebrations on the appointment of Dr. Masoom Yasinzai where top IIUI officials and employees felicitated him and termed his appointment as a vital development for the progress of university.

President Mamnoon Hussain, on the advice of prime minister, gave approval for the appointment of Professor Dr. Masoom Yasinzai who had been holding the acting charge as varsity Rector for almost last three years.
Professor Yasinzai is renowned international scientist who has also served as Vice Chancellor Baluchistan University and VC Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad. He had his primary education from Kuchlak a suburb of Quetta and his research and academic activities date back to 1980 when he started teaching at the University of Baluchistan. He is also known for his administrative and academic contributions in many universities while he has played vital role in launching civil engineering program and Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Basic Sciences at IIUI with his personal efforts.
University officials have shown profound pleasure on positive developments in the shape of permanent leadership of university, as recently IIUI witnessed appointment of Dr. Al-Draiweesh as its president for further four years and now IIUI got a permanent Rector as well. Most of the officials have termed this progress meaningful while saying it would help to take practical steps regarding long term policies.
To congratulate the Rector IIUI a felicitation ceremony was held at new campus which was conducted by Director General AF&P Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja. The ceremony was attended by all DGs, Deans, Directors, Administrative officers, faculty members and many other employees.

Deans extended their heartiest felicitations and hoped Rector IIUI would set new trends of research at university. They also lauded his role for promotion of academic research in the country while mentioning his services at QAU and Baluchistan University.

All the Directors lauded Dr. Masoom’s caliber of understanding technical and official matters while they hoped IIUI would soon make its place among the ranks of leading international universities under his leadership. He said that work on solar project of 10 MW would soon be initiated which would introduce new trends of university’s progress while he said it would help in financial uplift of the university.
He also appreciated the efforts of President Mamnoon Hussain and Pro Chancellor IIUI Professor Dr. Suliman A. Aba Al-Khail for progress of the university. He vowed to utilize his past experience of administration and research and assured that he would remain available all the time for the guidance. Dr. Masoom maintained that research students are the real strength of the university and they would be of top concentration while he added that measures for creating balance in teaching and research would be taken.


AIMA, KHUTABA FROM PAK ARMY VISITS IIUI

The delegation of 84th training course of Aima and Khtaba from Forces of Pakistan offered and organized by Dawah Academy International Islamic University visited IIUI new campus. The 30 member delegation was received at new campus by the Additional Director Protocol and Public Relations IIUI D K Hairan Khattak.

The delegation lead by course coordinator Waheed Ahmed, later, was given a detailed briefing about the university by Hairan Khattak in which elaborated the objectives and the very core goals of IIUI. Hairan Kahttak apprised the participants about the distinctions of Islamic University in different fields and its contributions as IIUI is one of the top leading universities that producing highly qualified talented graduate duly integrated with the teachings of Islam. He also made them aware about the admission process and its whole criteria. Harian Khattak also explained the vital role and services of IIUI academies and constituents unites in detail. Participants took keen interest in knowing details about university faculties and constituent units; they took interest, ask some queries regarding admission process. Later on, Participants also visited central library and male campus of the university.

IIUI, THAI EMBASSY VOW TO ENHANCE EDUCATIONAL TIES

Ambassador of Thailand to Pakistan Tomwit Jarnson and Rector International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) Dr. Masoom Yasinzai have agreed to expand mutual educational ties between both sides.

The point was agreed on the occasion of the visit of a 15-member Thai delegation to IIUI on Wednesday. The delegation was headed by Tomwit Jarnson along with education experts, officials from ministry of education of Thailand and students of Thailand. Delegation’s meeting with the IIUI Rector was also attended by Director General AF&P Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja.

It was agreed in the meeting that in lieu of further extending the bilateral cooperation measures for signing MoUs would be taken while both sides showed keen interest in exchange of students and scholars.

Ambassador of Thailand said that a number of Thai students have been showing keen interest for education in Pakistan, specially at IIUI, as it offers vital academic programs such as in Islamic Banking and finance, translation and Arabic language. He said Thai government values its relationships with Pakistan while he also assured support for academic linkage between Pakistani and Thai educational institutions. Tomwit Jarnson and Thai delegates lauded the harmonious and multi-cultural milieu being provided at IIUI. Delegates asked questions regarding various academic programs and possibilities of bilateral projects which were briefly answered by Dr. Masoom Yasinzai.

Speaking on the occasion, Rector IIUI said that university appreciates the interest of Thai students in its programs and they would be provided assistance and cooperation on priority basis. He added that university is a hub of various cultures and religions where students are being nurtured in an atmosphere of mutual respect and religious harmony.

Responding to a question regarding IIUI collaborations and its work for dissemination of peace, Dr. Masoom Yasinzai said internationalization is leading agenda of the university and Thai government and students would find IIUI doors wide open for mutual cooperation.

“Islam is religion of peace and mutual respect, IIUI while following these vital attributes of Islam not only works for discouraging the attitude of radicalization but also portrays an example of religious harmony as students of various religions study at university in sectarianism free and peaceful environment” he added. He said IIUI not only discourages the attitudes of violence and rigidity but also it has been a solution provider for these challenges through its renowned scholars who have been presenting Islam’s message of peace and tranquility on various international forums. Rector IIUI also assured that Thai students would be welcomed also in future in all academic programs while he assured that he would remain all times available for paving the way of MoUs of mutual cooperation between both sides.

Later, the delegation was given a detailed briefing about the university by Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja. He told that nearly hundred Thai students were studying at IIUI in previous semester while furthermore have been enrolled in ongoing semester which commenced this month. He also answered to various queries of the students of the delegation.

Exchange of gifts and shields also took place at the end where university crests and publications were presented to the Thai Ambassador and delegates by Rector IIUI while a gift of books was also presented to Dr. Masoom Yasinzai by Mr. Tomwit Jarnson.

DCW ORGANIZES WORKSHOP ON CHILDREN CARE IN ISLAM

Dawah Centre for Women of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) organized a week long workshop on Training and Care of Children in Islam.

The workshop was attended by house wives and by women of different aspects of life where lectures and skills of children care in the light of Islam were introduced to them by DCW officials. The workshop was aimed at providing guidelines to women regarding brought up of children in the light of Islamic teachings while lectures on children psychology. br>
A concluding ceremony of the workshop was held at DCW which was attended by Deputy Director General Dawah Academy Dr. Imtiaz Zafar as chief guest. It was also attended by Incharge DCW Shagufta Omar and other DCW officials.

He appreciated DCW’s role in society building and hoped the centre would keep arranging such activities in future.
