Mapping the Precursors of Globalization: Local Realities & Challenges

Introduction:
Globalization refers to expanding cross-border movements of goods, money, information, ideas as well as interdependency of people and institutions around the world. Economic development in emerging economies, liberalization of trade, and advancement in telecommunications and transportation are “shrinking” the globe and increasing the economic interactions among nations. While the rapid expansion of trade in goods and services has brought opportunities to many, the structural shifts associated with the rapid pace of globalization have imposed significant costs on many communities and their workers.
The aim of this conference is to highlight the precursors of Globalization and its impact on different areas of life with respect to our local realities. The conference will bring into light the issues and challenges of globalization in Pakistan and its influence on the society in general and on institutions in particular.

Theme 1:
Technology and Economic Development in the Era of Globalization
The success of globalization is determined by science and technology, mainly new information and communication technologies. At the same time, globalization has strongly predisposed the ways in which scientific knowledge and new technologies are produced and disseminated. Both access to and creation of knowledge has become decisive feature for social and economic development in today’s globalized world.

Theme 2:
Education in Global Context: Issues & Debates
Globalization, quality education and development are interconnected with each other.  This theme will explore ways in which globalization impacts Education. It aims to expand strategies to strap up the processes of globalization in a positive way for the implementation of education for sustainable development. Education is important for sustainable development since it improve the quality of life without compromising the future. This can be achieved not through degrees and certificates but through quality education, offered through the full range of approaches and modalities.

Theme 3:
Globalization and Culture: Opportunities, Threats and Challenges
Due to globalization, on one hand there is an ongoing process towards a homogenization of culture called “global culture”, but there is also diversification of culture on the other hand.  The conference will bring together leading experts on globalization and cultural diversity to discuss the complex relations between globalization processes and living intangible culture. It will seek to identify and discuss phenomena which have positive or negative effects on cultural diversity and its continuous development in general, and on the vitality and the transmission of the intangible cultural heritage in particular.

Theme 4:
Gender perspectives in Globalization
Gender quality and globalization has a strong connection with each other as it is transforming the gender relation all over the world. The impact of globalization on women and gender relations continues to be neglected nationally and internationally. Different international treaties are taking steps to incorporate the gender dimension of social development while talking about economies development and globalization. Still the efforts are required to amalgamate gender dimensions in policy and operational work so as to promote gender equality, development and peace within the context of globalization

Theme 5:
Environmental Globalism: Strength & Weakness
In a globalized world, people share Earth’s resources, including a clean, safe and healthy environment. These basic requirements are under risk due to climate change and environmental degradation. The degradation of the global environment has evident social and economic penalties and has an impact on the capability of people and communities to accomplish their potential as human beings.

Theme 6:
Globalization and Politics:
Globalization cannot go beyond the international political system of states, territory and sovereignty. It mainly focuses on the struggle for political power between states. In a globalized world, states have no central power and authority as they had in past because various interconnected and interdependent on each other, as a result the world seems like a Cobweb of relations.  Therefore, we can say that globalization is a political process that has been forced on the weak by the powerful. The inherited political ideologies (liberalism, socialism, communism, anarchism) are no longer able to solve the problem that in future.

Call for Abstracts:
The Researchers, Academicians, Graduates and Post Graduate Scholars are invited to submit abstracts for the conference. The abstracts will be selected after the process of peer review. You are requested to submit abstract to the conference coordinators:

Guideline for Abstract/paper
Kindly read the following instructions before submitting your abstract/paper.
Abstract must be based on the original work, research study or a scientific review.

• The name of author(s) must be written at the top of paper title
• It must be written in English Language having not more than 300 words.
• Abstracts should provide a brief overview of the research paper.
• Only one abstract should be submitted at a time.
• Abstract/paper must be saved in Microsoft Word for Windows, with 12 point font and in Times New Roman.
