Pakistan Engineering Council Team visits IIUI
A team of Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) headed by Engr. Prof. Dr. Anjum Khalid, NED- UET Karachi, visited International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) and exchanged views on progress of the Mechanical Engineering Department of the university, in its separate meetings with Rector IIUI, Dr. Masoom Yasinzai and President IIUI, Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh. A presentation was also delivered to the team by the Faculty of Engineering and Technology while it also visited Mechanical Engineering Labs.

In the meeting between PEC Team and Rector IIUI, future matters pertaining to FET and Mechanical Engineering Department were discussed. Dr. Masoom Yasinzai shared the views about higher education trends and future of engineering departments in the Pakistani universities.

Later, during his meeting with PEC, President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh assured all his support to the Dean FET and Chairman Mechanical Engineering Department for the labs, building equipment and hiring of new faculty. It was also vowed on the occasion that both sides would further strengthen mutual cooperation. University souvenirs were also presented to the PEC Team.

The PEC Team concluded its visit with meeting to Dean FET, Chairman DME, Senior Mechanical Engineering faculty members and exchanged their findings about their visit. PEC team appreciated the establishment of additional 5-new Labs in DME, hiring of 7- new teachers, hiring of 6- new Lab Engineers. It also visited new DME building that is under construction.

Dr. Ghazi attains the status of HEC approved supervisor
Dr. Inamul Haq Ghazi, Assistant Professor Arabic & Incharge Department of Translation & Interpretation IIUI, gets the status of HEC approved supervisor in the areas of Arabic (language & Literature) Arabic Travel-logs & Translation Studies. Entrusted with substantial academic & research responsibilities, this status is given to well- qualified experienced & active researchers & scholars. HEC approved supervisors act as PhD supervisor for doctoral students funded under various HEC PhD scholarship programs.

CUSTODIAN OF THE TWO HOLY MOSQUES SUPPORTS POLIO CAMPAIGN IN PAKISTAN
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz has directed to support Polio Campaign in Pakistan with the participation of Saudi Ministry of Health in collaboration with World Health Organization.
Dr. Alaa Addin, Manager of WHO for Middle East has delineated the initiative of the custodian of the Two Holy Mosques as a very good one for all the countries of the region where polio spreads. In addition, the member of Pakistan delegation, Dr. Asaad Hafeez has thanked the King for his generous support to Pakistan. He further stated that, the cooperation between the two countries has along deep rooted aspect in combating polio.

SHRIAH ACADEMY’S SIX DAY WORKSHOP STARTS
COLLECTIVE APPROACH CAN SOLVE CONSPIRACIES AGAINST ISLAM. MOULANA SHERANI
A six –day study workshop with the title “New Trends in Islamic Fiqh” jointly organized by Shariah Academy International Islamic University Islamabad and Council of Islamic Ideology Pakistan started here at Faisal Mosque Campus. Chairman Council of Islamic Ideology Moulana Muhammad Khan Sherani was chief guest at occasion of inaugural ceremony, while Director General Dr. Tahir Mnasoori was also present. Addressing the participant Ulema, Moulana Sherani said, with strong propaganda against Islam and Muslims, efforts are being carried out to associate the curse of terrorism and extremism with Muslims. He added that the utmost responsibility is on Ulema to adopt a way of unity and remove their small differences opinion conflicts, while considering present circumstances. He hoped that this workshop will be milestone in creating harmony and unity among the sects. Moulana Sherani stressed upon the need to cultivate collective approach to counter the conspiracies against Muslim. He further said, we have complete set of codes and laws, we don’t need to follow the incorporated governance systems. Moulana Sherani assured the cooperation to start new course for the teachers who are associated with Political Science. He also appreciated the role of Shariah Academy on arranging these courses.

Earlier, Dr. Mansoori thanked to Moulana Sherani and Council of Islamic Ideology for cooperating and threw the light on main features of the courses. He said, the process of Islamization of the Laws in Pakistan and Islamic World getting pace, and Shariah Academy also working on these lines. He said through these efforts influenced our Fiqhee attitude and reduced the stress on sectarianism. Dr. Mansoori made aware that Shariah Academy working on the project to make the changing trends understandable. It’s worth mentioning, in the six day workshop, detail lectures will be delivered on the topics as Use of new Technology in the Problems of Fiqh, Islamic clauses in constitution of Pakistan, New medical Problems and Islamic Fiqh, including visit of Federal Shariah Court, Council of Islamic Ideology.

PRESIDENT IIUI CHAIRS MEETING AT DAWAH ACADEMY
President, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) and Director General Dawah Academy, Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh chaired a meeting with officials of Dawah Academy here on Tuesday.
Dr. Al-Draiweesh directed on the occasion that a redesigned distance learning programme should be initiated and courses must be according to the contemporary requirements. While admiring the services of former Director General Dawah Academy Prof. Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman, he said “services of Dr. Sajid ur Rehman would always be remembered in the history of the academy. He added that Dr. Sajid ur Rehman is a personality of high qualities and a renowned Islamic scholar. Staff of the Academy was introduced with worthy president during the meeting.
Earlier, Dr. Imtiaz Zafar welcomed Dr. Al-Draiweesh and said ” it is fortunate that Dawah Academy now being headed by another globally known Islamic Scholar (Dr. Al-Draiweesh) after Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman.
Meanwhile, Dr. Al-Draiweesh visited the workshop on “New Trends in Islamic Fiqh” organized by Shariah Academy. Speaking to the participants, he said Aima & teachers have vital role in development of society, they should refrain from extremism and nurture the minds of students according to Islamic teachings and contemporary requirements.
DG Shariah Academy, Dr. Tahir Mansoori was also present on the occasion.

IIUI holds eid milan party
International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) arranged eid Milan party in honor of 20 Hujaj of Islamic University and Director Generals (DGs), Deans, Directors of administrative and academic wings. The party was held at IRD Guest house, Rector, IIUI Prof. Dr. Masoom yasinzai and President IIUI Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh were the chief guests of the party while Vice President (Academics) Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad also attended the party. Addressing on the occasion, Dr. Masoom Yasinzai congratulated Hujaj, all the DGs, Deans and Directors. He appreciated the efforts and steps taken by the President IIUI regarding arrangements of Hajj. He hoped that more and more people from university will perform Hajj in future due to his efforts. He said that all the relevant personals of university will keep their struggle up for the betterment, promotion and prosperity of the university. The gathering of eid Milan party is a vital proof that you are agreed to work for the cause of university, he said.

On the same occasion in his address Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh also paid congratulation to Hujjaj and vowed that the dedicated persons from university will be sent to perform Hajj & Umrah every year. Dr. Al-Draiweesh also prayed for the health of Dr. Masoom Yasinzai and said under his supervision university is heading towards the core goals of the university. Dr. Al-Draiweesh also paid tribute to the services of former vice president Prof. Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman and expressed best wishes for him. He said the services of Prof. Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman will always be memorable in the history of the university. He further said that Dr. Sajid ur Rehman showed great devotion and dedication with university during his job, due to this even today people respect and honored him.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh while giving direction to the participants said, with their devotion, good conduct and hardworking, university will lead among the top universities of the world. He assured his cooperation will always be with the university. He said IIU has talented and hardworking people who have the ability to set a line towards the high destiny. He also announced the construction of new hall for get together of faculty and administrative staff.

While addressing to the ceremony, Vice President Academics Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad also appreciated president IIUI on the arrangements of Eid Milan party and said this informal gathering will help to settle the matters. He said we should forget our differences and work for the cause of the country.
On the occasion the officials who performed the Hajj also shared their views. Additional Director (P&PR) D.K. Hairan Khattak thanked president IIU and Saudi government and said that during Hajj a delegation also visited different Saudi universities that will promote the educational and research based activities with Saudi Universities. Director HR, Muhammad Tabrez Aslam, Student Advisor Dr. Safeer Awan, Dr. Farkhanda Zia, Dr. Asma Gull, Dr. Najma and Muhammad Adnan Khan also admired the arrangements of Saudi Government.

National Conference on Computational Biology concludes
Rector International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) Dr. Masoom Yasinzai has said Pakistani scientific community should focus on the field of Biotechnology as we can solve the problem of fuel by utilizing our huge bio resources.

He was addressing as chief guest to concluding ceremony of a five-day “National Conference on Computational Biology” organized by Department of Bioinformatics and Biotechnology in collaboration with Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) and Pakistan Society of Computational Sciences/Biology. Chairman Pakistan Science Foundation Dr Khalil Ahmed and Vice President Academic, IIUI Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed were guest of honor on the occasion. Chairman National Cyber Security Syed Ammar Jaffer, President Pakistan society of computational sciences, Dr. Syed Nasir Shah, Director General IBGE, Dr. Muhammad Ismail, Chairman Bioinformatics & Biotechnology of IIUI Dr. Jabar Zaman Khan Khattak also shred their views.

Dr. Masoom yasinzai, while delivering an informative presentation on the topic of “Recent Advancement in Biotechnology & Computational Biology” said biotechnology advancements can help in curing human diseases and the field has vast scope in the future. He said to the students of Biotechnology that they have made a right choice by opting this subject and it may lead them towards their bright future and service of humanity. He also threw light on innovations in Biotechnology and apprised the participants about the genetically engineered food. Rector IIUI’s presentation also covered the field of nanotechnology in which he informed about the advancements made by scientist to cure the life taking diseases in an easy way. He hoped that students and the teachers would apply the achievements in their work while saying “if worked with commitment, computational Biology can make the human life easier”. Rector IIUI announced on the occasion that IIUI would start work on establishing a computational lab.

Dr. Khalil, being guest of honor briefed the audience about the achievements of PSF in scientific development. He urged the scientific community to keep arranging such conferences to promote scientific research. He assured that youth will be granted opportunities to get knowledge of advancements in the field of science under the network of computational society.

Dr. Jabar Zaman Khan Khattak, who was also the chief organizer of the conference, paid tribute to the scientific researcher while thanking the experts who took part in the conference.
The conference which lasted for five days in which students from schools, colleges and Universities participated from across the country and presented 20 projects, presentations and activities. At the end of the conference students, who got position in the competitions, held during the conference regarding their research projects, were awarded shields and certificates.

PRESIDENT OF PAKISTAN ACKNOWLEDGES PRESIDENT IIUI, DR. AL-DRAIWEESH’S FELICITATION LETTER
The President Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Mamnoon Hussain has acknowledged the felicitation letter sent to him by Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), on assuming the office of the President.
His Excellency Mamnoon Hussain, who is also Chancellor of IIUI, has wished to extend sincere and deepest thanks in his letter to Dr. Al-Draiweesh. In the letter, he has highly appreciated the contribution of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for cooperating with IIUI for promotion of education. President of Pakistan also said that Pakistan greatly values cordial brotherly relations with Saudi Arabia. He assured in the letter to continue support for IIUI and would welcome valuable inputs from Dr. Al-Draiweesh to make IIUI an institution of high educational standards.

NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON COMPUTATIONAL BIOLOGY TO CONCLUDE TODAY
A five-day “National Conference on Computational Biology” organised by International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) will conclude at Faisal Mosque campus on Today, (Friday) October 25, 2013. Prof. Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, Rector IIUI shall be the chief guest on the occasion. The conference is being jointly organized by Department of Bioinformatics & Biotechnology of IIUI, Khan Research Laboratories and Pakistan Society of Computational Sciences.

A DELEGATION OF INTERNATIONAL FOOD POLICY RESEARCH INSTITUTE VISITS IIUI
A delegation of International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) led by Prof. Dr. David Orden Virginia Tech University USA visited International Institute of Islamic Economics International Islamic University Islamabad. A delegation met with the project team of IIUI as well as with the faculty of IIIE.

In his remarks while addressing, Dr David explained that IFPRI is engaged in the promotion of research to provide feedback for policymaking process. He informed that capable researchers of IIIE may apply for research funding when a third round of PSSP research will be launched. Prof. Dr. Asad Zaman, the Director General IIIE, discussed the future opportunities of collaboration between IIIE and IFPRI. He said that IIIE faculty should engage themselves in research activities to influence policy through research outcome.

Prof. Dr. Pervez Zamurrad Janjua, Chairman School of Economics and Project Manager, introduced the delegation with the faculty members of IIIE. He emphasized the need to harness the opportunity for raising research funds from national and international sources.

Dr. Atiq-ur-Rehman, the co-investigator, briefed about the progress of research project and its relevance for students and academia. It is pertinent to mention that the aim of this project is to explore and analyze the ratio of skilled graduate and market demand capacity.

The project will provide policy guidelines for the students and the educational institutions for their future educational plans. The project is being completed with the support of Pakistan Strategy Support Program (PSSP) initiated by the Planning Commission of Pakistan.

At the end, the delegation thanked the faculty and administration for hosting the session and expressed deep satisfaction in the progress of the project. The Delegation also appreciated the contributions of IIIE in policy oriented research.

NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON COMPUTATIONAL BIOLOGY KICKS OFF AT IIUI
Chairman Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) Ijaz Mkhtar said young scientific researchers are backbone of nation, Computational Science can play a vital role in the development of country; and young computational scientist would be great assets for us. He was addressing inaugural ceremony of a five-day “National Conference on Computational Biology” organized by Department of Bioinformatics & Biotechnology of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), in collaboration with KRL and Pakistan Society of Computational Science/Biology at Faisal Mosque Campus of the university. Rector IIUI, Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, Acting President IIUI, Dr. Nabi Bux Jummani, Chief Organizer and Head of Department of Bioinformatics & Biotechnology, Dr Jabbar Zaman Khattak, scientific experts and students across the country also attended the ceremony.

Ijaz Mkhtar said Pakistani youth is actively participating in the field of research, young students should be encouraged to launch modern and innovative scientific research projects and termed the recent conference as a milestone in this regard. He said that we have a variety of opportunities for development and young scientists while utilizing their abilities in the field of scientific research can lead our country towards a journey of prosperity and success. “I appreciate IIUI; PSF, Pakistan Society of Computational Biology; Higher Education Commission and Pakistan Science Foundation for organizing this mega National event and their invaluable contribution to promote the spirit of scientific research in Pakistan” he said. He added, due to efforts of research community Pakistan has achieved excellence in the field of modern scientific disciplines.

Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, being guest of honor lauded the effort of IIUI and KRL and welcomed the worthy guests and experts while hoping the recent effort would pave the way for excellence in the field of scientific research. “ IIUI not only striving for promoting Islamic values and research but also it is committed to provide a platform for progress in the field of scientific subjects” he said. He added that progress in the field of science has become a prerequisite for development and prosperity of nations. He urged young scientists to learn latest scientific techniques to compete the challenges of modern era. He maintained that young students must apply the latest techniques in the relevant areas of their research as it would provide valuable results. He expressed full confidence in the abilities of young IIUI scientific researchers while vowing that university would remain committed to encourage the potential of its students.

Dr.Naabi Bux Jummani, on the behalf of the President IIUI, Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh welcomed the worthy guests and appreciated the efforts of IIUI and KRL and hoped students would get useful knowledge from the conference. He also assured every possible support for arranging such conferences in future.

Earlier, Dr. Jabbar Zamman Khattak, briefed the participants about the aims and objectives of the conference and welcomed them on the behalf of the department.

Scientific experts, Prof. Dr. Syed Walayat Hussain Shah and Dr. Naushaba Atta also spoke on the occasion and apprised about the aims and vision of such conferences. Valuable lectures were delivered on the first day on various important scientific topics of computational Biology by Dr. Danial Christian Hoselli, Syed Ammar Jaffery, Dr. Nasir Mirza and Syed Nasir Mehmood Shah. The conference will last till October 25.

FAISAL MOSQUE: EID PRAYER TO BE OFFERED AT 08:00 AM
Eid ul Azha Prayer will be offered at Faisal Mosque, Islamabad on October 16, 2013 (Wednesday) at 08:00 AM. Prof. Dr. Tahir Hakeem of Faculty of Shariah & Law, International Islamic University, Islamabad will deliver Eid-ul-Azha sermon and lead the prayer.

RESPECT OF ELDERS, KEY OF ETHICS; DR.AL-DRAIWEESH

The complete and absolute care of elders, such as health, psychological, mental, intellectual, and social is very necessary in all respects. Elders are on key position in the society, so our prior obligation is to sustain the dignity of elders regarding all social corners. These views were expressed by the President of International Islamic University Islamabad Prof Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh. He was addressing the seminar on the occasion of “World Mental Health Day” jointly organized by the departments of Psychology (male, female) of the University. Atle Heltand, a renowned Psychologist was guest speaker form the Norway while, Dean faculty of social sciences Dr. Nabi Bux Jumani, Chairpersons Department of Psychology (male) Dr. Tahir Khalili, Dr. Seema Gul (female) Director Academics Shagufta Haroon and large number of students also attended the seminar. President said the depression and distortion of mental health of elders and old age can be removed by adopting the Islamic Teachings, as we find that our religion has greatly emphasized on elders’ rights. “The Prophet of Mercy (PBUH) was proactive and care giver in this field. The Islamic approach for the care of elders is without any discrimination of sex, colour and religion”. He said.
Dr. Al-Draiweesh quoted the Quranic verses and Hadiths to elaborate the topic that younger’s are advised to respect the elders. The younger’s of today will be the elders of tomorrow. This advice of the Prophet is everlasting, as it is recommended generation after generation. He further said that this is general principle to prefer the elders for their respect and honour. The Prophet ordered to start with elders by giving them preference in every step of life. He admired the steps taken by the department of Psychology and said that extend this exercise in practical level and present a model to other universities and people at large. He advised to visit suburbs of the Islamabad for practicing in the field.
Alte Heltand also addressed the seminar and threw the light on the issue of mental health and the way to address that. He said we should be well aware about the illness of mind and disorder of mental health. The olds are the special persons, they demand keen consideration from the society.
Dr. Tahir Khalili in his welcoming note thanked to the president and guest speaker for sparing their precious time and appreciated the efforts taken by psychology departments.

IIUI ACKNOWLEDGES SERVICES OF ITS DEPARTING VP

President International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh hosted a farewell dinner in honor of Vice President IIUI and Director General Dawah Academy Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman, who is going to complete his 38 years tenure of his services at IIUI, on Friday. Dinner was attended by Saudi Cultural Attaché Hazza Bin Abdullah Al-Ghamdi, diplomats of various Islamic countries.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Al-Draiweesh said Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman always gave priority to the university interest, steps taken during his tenure reflect his enormous vision and foresight. While paying tribute to his services, President IIUI said “time spent with Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman is a precious asset of his life, Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman is a great administrator and a man of high character”.
Meanwhile, Islamic Research Institute (IRI), Shariah Academy, Dawah Academy and Central Library of the university also arranged farewell ceremonies in the honour of VP IIUI Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman. He was warmly welcomed at his arrival at IRI while speakers on that occasion paid rich tribute to his administrative and research services. Speakers were of the view that Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman, during his 38 years career, strengthened the various institutes and academies of the university. They said research journal “Fikr-o-Nazar” of IRI was a visible example of his keen interest in the field of research development. They hoped that Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman would keep his connection with university after his retirement. Those who spoke in the ceremonies include DG Shariah Academy Dr. Tahir Mansoori and DG IRI, Dr. Sohail Hassan.
In his address, Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman said that love and affection he received from staff, faculty members and students, is an honour for him, he specially mentioned the love and care given by the people serving at Dawah Academy. “I always tried to strictly obey the rules and regulations and utilize all available resources for the development of IIUI and Dawah Academy” he said. Speaking in a reception in his honour at IRI he said the institute introduced him with people of high morality during his 38 years career. He said he learnt valuable things from the institute which he termed as precious asset of his life.


PROFESSIONAL TEACHERS TRAINING WORKSHOP CONTINUES AT IIUI
A Three-day workshop to enhance the teaching and research skills of the higher education faculty organized by Department of Education (female) of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) continues at female campus of the university.
Workshop which is titled as ‘Professional Development Program for University Teachers’ is befitting the 35 male and female young faculty members. Resource person Dr. Nabi Bux Jummani who is also Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences at IIUI and specialized on ‘Teacher Competency’ has lauded the efforts of department for its continuous efforts for professional teacher training.
Dr Samina Mlik, Head Department of Education, while highlighting the Importance of the workshop said that “workshop is continuation of Professional Competency Enhancement Program for Teachers which was initiated by the department in 2010”.
Earlier, in the opening ceremony of the workshop, Director Female Campus, Dr. Zaitoon Begum also lauded the initiative taken by the education Department and ensured every possible support in conduction such workshops in future.

PROGRESS OF MUSLIM YOUTH PROGRESS OF UMMAH: DR. AL-DRAIWEESH

President, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIU) Dr Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh has said Wednesday promotion of education among Muslim youth is a dire need of hour because progress of our youth is progress of Muslim Ummah. He was addressing to a reception, arranged for the new students of fall semester 2013 at IIUI. Acting Students’ Advisor Dr. Munawar Iqbal Gondal, Dean, Directors, high ups and a mentionable number of students was present in the reception.
“Knowledge is heritage of Prophets, Muslims have a unique status among all the nations of world due to their superiority in the field of knowledge, that is why we should uphold this salient feature by promoting knowledge and education with full devotion” he said.
President IIUI stressed upon the students to respect the teachers while terming it a basic requirement for success. He said IIUI is an omen of unity among the Muslim countries as a number of students across the Muslim world getting education here. While advising the students he said, they have entered in new era by enrolling themselves at IIUI, they should devote themselves for acquiring education. He assured that IIUI would keep striving for providing quality education to its students. He emphasized, students are ambassadors of university; they should present themselves as a role model to the world. While referring to the challenges face by Ummah he said “Muslims would have to forge unity among their ranks to cope with the contemporary challenges, education is ultimate solution of our problems”. He added that education of Muslim youth must be top priority of the Muslim countries. He said IIUI will soon lead in higher educational institutions by nurturing and developing highly skilled and dynamic professionals. At the end, gifts were distributed among the student by the president.

Prof. Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman, Vice President, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) to deliver Jumma sermon and lead Jumma Prayer at Faisal Mosque, Islamabad. IIUI TO START 20TH COURSE OF ISLAMIC LAW
International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) has started its 20th course of Islamic Law, launched under the department of Distance Learning of the Shariah Academy of the university. Candidates having 14 years of education will be eligible for the course, participants of course can get use of it via post from home. Duration of the course will be one year which will provide knowledge about basic concepts of Islamic Fiqh. Course is not only beneficial for lawyers but ordinary graduates can also get enrolment in it. Last date for admission of course is November 17, 2013.

PRESIDENT IIUI ADDRESSES 20- MEMBER DELEGATION OF VARSITY HUJJAJ

The International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) requires sincere efforts for the progress and promotion, all the staff members should work with devotion and honesty, their cooperation is indispensible to make this university international level in true sense. These views were expressed by the President, IIUI Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh at the see-off meeting with 20 member delegation of university going to perform Hajj.
Dr. Al-Draiweesh said that this reward has been given to the employees of the university in return of their services and these are the chosen people by Allah, who are going to set on the holy journey. He said that the Hajj is a Jihad. He advised the members of delegation that they should make continuous pray and give special consideration to rituals during this holy journey. He emphasized on the need that every body should wipe out his grievances and malicious thinking because the acceptance of prayers demands sincerity.
Dr. Al-Draiweesh said that Saudi government is striving to facilitate pilgrims day and night. He hoped that members of this delegation will also show the attitude of cooperation with others while performing Hajj. Dr. Al-Draiweesh said that university required such honest and dedicated persons so the university will stand among top rank universities of the world.

DR. AL-DRAIWEESH URGES MUSLIM TRANSLATORS TO PLAY ROLE FOR UMMAH’S DEVELOPMENT

World has become a global village and nations through translation benefited from knowledge of Muslims due to which now they are among the ranks of modern and developed civilizations. In order to convey the message of Islam to rest of the world and to meet the contemporary challenges Muslims would have to pay attention on the field of translation.
These views were expressed by President International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh while delivering a lecture in a seminar titled “ Translation, its Field and Importance” organized by Department of Translation & Interpretation (T & I ) of university, at central library. The seminar was attended by Dean Faculty of Arabic Dr. Bashir Ahmed, Head Department of T & I and organizer of the seminar Dr. Inam ul Haq Ghazi and a large number of students and faculty members of the university.
“Translation is a sensitive field, a translator must have an idea about the cultural context and ethical aspects of the topic before dealing with it, a good translation can be a valuable addition in the development and betterment of society but an inappropriate venture in the field of translation can lead to worse consequences” Said President IIUI while elaborating the importance of translation.
Dr. Al-Draiweesh said language is a significant tool of communication and it is an essential contemporary requirement that we should be proficient in the field of translation to compete the challenges of modernization. While discussing the history of translation in Islam he gave examples of companions of Holy Prophet (PBUH) who worked as translators and also threw light on the services of Abbasid caliphs in the field of translation. He said translators, through their sincere work can lead Ummah towards a way of development and prosperity and urged them to play their due role in this regard.
He urged the young participants while saying, they possess an enormous responsibility as future translators, during their work they should remain within the limits specified by Islam. He advised them to study sufficient books before translation and learn multiple languages to broaden their exposure. He also informed on the occasion that he was having a wish to establish a chair of translation at IIUI. President IIUI lauded the role of department of T & I and also appreciated its efforts in image building of university through conducting such seminars and international conferences.
Later, question answer session took place where students were awarded gifts on giving correct answers regarding the subject of the seminar. At the end, shield was presented to Dr. Al- Draiweesh on the behalf of department (T & I) by Dr. Inam ul Haq Ghazi.

IIUI HOLDS WALK, SEMINAR ON “INTERNATIONAL TEACHERS DAY”
Department of Education (female) of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) arranged walk and a seminar on world teachers’ day at female campus of the university to evoke the role and the significance of teachers. Number of students participated to mark the day.
The participants of the walk were carrying banners and placards highlighting the status of teacher as a nation-builder and with demands to the government and society to give due respect to teachers.
The students on occasion called for protection of the rights of teachers and demanded that teachers must be given due respect in the society. They said the nations which do not give due respect to their teachers could not make progress.
Later, a seminar was also conducted by the education department where speakers paid rich tribute to the teachers and observed that teachers are the builders of nation, no nation can excel if it negates the role of teachers.
Speakers were of the view that teachers play vital role in imparting quality education to guarantee a bright future. Dr. Samina Malik, Chairperson, Department of education and faculty members were also there on the occasion. Students delivered speeches on the importance of teacher’s day and presented different types of skits, poems, to pay tribute to their teachers. Students also gave greeting cards and flowers to teachers.
Dr. Samina Malik, in her address on the occasion congratulated the students and faculty members for holding successful seminar and walk to mark the day. She urged the students to cooperate with teachers and help them building nation.

UVAS STUDENTS DELEGATION VISITS IIUI
The 43 members, student delegation from University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences (UVAS), Lahore has visited International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI). The visit had been arranged by the Chairman Department of BioInformatics and Biotechnology (Male) Dr. Jabar Zaman Khattak.

The delegation was led by Dr. M Junaid and was briefed about the academics activities and research based projects of Bioinformatic and Biotechnology Department of IIUI. The message of President IIU Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh was also conveyed in terms of collaboration in research and development among the universities in Pakistan.

IIUI, NUML TO COOPERATE ON NEW EDUCATIONAL VENTURES
The International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) and National University of Modern Languages (NUML) have agreed to set up a road map for mutual cooperation in the field of academic and advance research under which both the institutions will not only sign MoUs in disciplines of mutual interest but also launch educational projects to learn with experience of each other.

It was decided in a meeting at NUML on Thursday where President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh while heading a 10- member delegation called on Director General NUML (DG) Brig Azam Jamal. IIUI delegation included Dean Faculty of Language and Literature Dr. Munawar Iqbal Gondal, Dean Faculty of Arabic Dr. Muhammad Bashir, Dean Faculty of Basic and Applied Sciences Dr. Muhammad Sher, Dean Faculty of Engineering and Technology Dr. Aqdas Malik, Dean Faculty of Management Sciences, Dr. Bashir Khan, Director Academics Shagufta Haroon, Director Female Campus Dr. Zaitoon Begum and other staff members of the university.

During the meeting it was decided to practically launch road map within short span of time, two focal persons, Dr. Munawar Iqbal Gondal from IIUI and Dr. Ali Akbar from NUML will be responsible to supervise and coordinate about it. Both, the President IIUI and DG NUML agreed upon the point that existing cooperation between the universities in departments of Islamic Studies and Arabic would be extended and collaborations between different departments would also be initiated in near future on priority basis.

It was also agreed in the meeting that a grand MoU of mutual cooperation will be signed between both institutions soon, which will cover all the aspects including exchange of students and teachers, departmental joint ventures to organize workshops and seminars.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh, speaking on the occasion said that IIUI was committed to extend its cooperation with all the Pakistani and International universities and his recent visit was an effort to strengthen the resolve. “universities of Islamic countries are guarantors of bright future of Muslim Ummah as they are nurturing the talented minds of our youth, all educational institutions would have to be united and devise strategy to cope the contemporary challenges”, he said. President IIUI added people of Pakistan are known for hard work not only in Saudi Arabia but globally and urged the participants of the meeting to utilize this attribute for educational development. He also invited Brig Azam Jamal to visit IIUI alongwith a delegation and hoped the visit would further pave the way for mutual understanding and cooperation.

Brig Azam Jamal said on the occasion, IIUI is a reputed institution for providing quality education integrated with teachings of Islam and cooperation between both the institutions including language departments would be proved as milestone for educational development in the country. He assured that MoU between both universities would not be a formality but it would produce new avenue of research and learning.

At the end, a souvenir was presented to Dr. Al-Draiweesh by Brig Azam Jamal on the behalf of NUML while the IIUI delegation later also visited various departments of the university.

IIUI TO ARRANGE WALK ON “WORLD TEACHERS DAY”
Department of Education (Female), International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) is going to arrange “walk” on the occasion of “World Teachers Day” here on Friday, October 04, 2013 at 10:00 am. The “walk” will start from Central Library to Female Campus of the university. The purpose of the “walk” is to appreciate and admire the services of teacher for the formation and progress of society. A seminar will also be held after walk in female campus of the university.

President International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh will deliver Lecture in a seminar on “Translation, its field and importance” on Thursday, October 03, 2013 at 02:00 pm at Central Library of the university.

The seminar aims to create awareness about the field of translation and its importance by focusing on the opportunities of translation jobs in translation market. It will also be highlighted that professional translation learning is one of the most important investments.

PRESIDENT IIUI, PRO VC ISRA DISCUSS BILATERAL EDUCATIONAL RELATIONS
Pro Vice Chancellor ISRA University Prof. Dr. Altaf Ali G. Shaikh called on President, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) Prof. Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh here on Monday. Both the officials discussed bilateral educational relations and issues of mutual interest.

Dr-Al-Draiweesh said on the occasion that IIU would keep encouraging every step to promote the standard of education and in this regard, it would cooperate with all of the universities of Pakistan. He said IIUI is committed for promotion of quality education and production of highly skilled personalities.

Prof. Dr. Altaf Ali while lauding the role of IIUI said it is a prestigious institution which is not only serving Pakistan but whole Muslim Ummah. He also admired the role of Dr. Al-Draiweesh for his efforts for uplifting of education integrated with teachings of Islam. The mutual cooperation between both the Universities was also vowed on the occasion. At the end, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh presented IIU Crest to Dr. Altaf Ali Sheikh.

 

BOOKS OF DR. AL-DRAIWEESH ARE AVAILABLE FOR GENERAL PUBLIC
Shariah Academy has recently published two books compiled by Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) titled “Rast Ravi; Bunyadi Usool Wa Amli Wasail (Urdu)” & Asar-Al-Qada Fil Mhafiza Alal- Aqeedah Asseheeha (Arabic)”. These two books are also available in the Academy’s sale centre for general public.

The above said first book is translation from Arabic in which he addressed the issues and problems that directly linked with social disturbance, anarchy and conflict over perception minutely. The author also directed in this book to the dilemmas of youth regarding religion. The second book threw the light on the aspects of justice and judicial system in Islam. The credentials abilities and conditions to become a judge also highlighted in this book with details.

 

 

Distance Learning Education Brings Literacy Rate up. Dr. Al-Draiweesh
President, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) Prof Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh has said that knowledge symbolizes peace, prosperity and success, and the battle is to only be won by removing the clouds of ignorance through education. He expressed these views while addressing the seminar as chief guest organized by the Department of Education International Islamic University on the title “How to Best Use of ICT and Open Learning System & Social Presence and its Correlation with Achieved Learning”.

While Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and Editor-in-Chief Asian Journal of Distance Education Dr. Paul Kawachi and Dean Faculty of Education Bedford Shire University UK Dr. Marilyn Leask were the resource persons of the seminar. Dean faculty of Social Science Dr. Nabi Bux Jumani, chairman department of Psychology Dr. Tahir Khalili, chairman department of Education (female) Dr. Sameena Malik including large number of students were also present.

Dr. Al Draiweesh urged research scholars to take benefits from this opportunity and make themselves familiarize with the new technologies of learning and enhancing the knowledge. He stressed the need to get acquaintance with new and varied aspects of research. “Students must choose the research oriented topics to make it meaningful and fruitful. Today time demands us to overcome the deficiencies regarding technological advancements and posting positive image globally”. He said.

President further said our students are very much talented and IIUI trying to provide them every possible facilities to utilize their abilities in the field of education, research and technology. He envisioned the way that everybody should be literate in the country, to materialize this dream, he emphasized to pace the project up of Distance learning Education. Dr. Al Draiweesh also paid special gratitude to the foreign recourse persons for sparing their precious time.

While both the resource persons gave detail presentation on the topic and briefed the students about the course curriculum and the use of Information Communication Technology (ICT). They also threw light on the methods and professionalism in teaching. At the end President presented university crest to both the guest speakers.

27th IOP FOR WOMEN TEACHERS CONCLUDES AT IIUI
A two-week long 27th Islamic Orientation Program (IOP) for women teachers arranged by Dawah Centre for Women, Dawah Academy of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) concluded here on Monday.

The program was attended by 35 female teachers belonging to various cities of the country while guests of honour of its concluding ceremony were Vice President (AF & P) Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman and Vice President (Academics) Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad. Incharge Dawah centre for women, Shugafta Omar was also present on the occasion.

Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed, in his address said that role of women for disseminating Islam’s message was neglected in the history of sub-continent and now it’s our responsibility to give them due place for accomplishment of the purpose. He congratulated Muslim women for service of Islam while naming the world known female Islamic scholars. “If we want our nation among the ranks of successful nations, we would have to work for women empowerment in our society” he said.

Addressing the participants, Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman said misconceptions about Islam are due to inappropriate knowledge about our religion, Islam gives core importance to the education of women. “No society can excel until an educated woman has an opportunity to play her vital role in it” he said. He added that real nations are those which rule on hearts instead of ruling on necks and to be a real nation and conquer our enemies, we would have to adopt the weapon of education. He stressed upon female participants to devote themselves for promotion of education while terming them real asset which can make the fate of nation. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman said teaching and training are in instinct of a woman and they should utilize this granted blessing to develop an educated and harmonious society.

Earlier, Shugfta Omar briefed the guests and participants about the performance and achievements of Dawah Centre for women. She apprised that so far, centre has arranged 85 training programs including Hajj training programs which were duly appreciated by Ministry of Religious Affairs.

Before that, Faryal Ambreen, coordinator of program gave an overview of the program. At the end certificates of completion of the programme were also distributed among the participants by Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad and Prof. Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman.
