IIUI Holds Speech and National Songs competition
Department of Education, Faculty of Social Sciences of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) arranged a “departmental speech and national songs competition” here on Thursday. Eight students participated in speech competition from all educational programs and nine groups participate for National songs competition. Saleeha khawar got first position and Nuzhat Imtiaz, second position respectively in speech competition where as Anum and Mehwish got first position and Tayeba safdar got 2nd position in National song competition.

These competitions were organized to encourage students and to enhance their abilities in co-curricular activities. Dr. Samina Malik, Chairperson gave opening remarks. Prof. Dr. N. B. Jumani, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) honoured the event as- Chief Guest and addressed the students and faculty members by concluding remarks. Dr. Seema Gul chairperson, Department of psychology and Ms. Asma Mansoor, Senior Lecturer, Department of English, IIUI were the judges of the competition. At the end Cash Prizes and shields were distributed among the position holders.

Joint Meeting of IIUI and NTP on “President’s Programme for Care of Highly Qualified Overseas Pakistanis”
A high level joint meeting of the officials of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) and National Talent Pool (NTP) was held in the main campus of IIUI. The university was represented by Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman, President IIUI, Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad, Vice President (Academics) and Dean, Director of various Faculties and Institutes.

Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman in his opening remarks appreciated the role of NTP regarding the utilization of the services / capabilities of Overseas Pakistani experts in various fields.

Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad declared it a revolutionary programme regarding the enhancement of research and academic institutions.

Dr. Fiaz Ahmed Ranjha, Director General, NTP briefed the meeting about the aims and objectives of NTP and invited the participants of the meeting to offer their valuable suggestions for further improvement of this programme. It was also decided that a joint committee of IIUI and NTP will summarized the recommendations on behalf of the IIUI, in this regard.

IIUI: USEF Representatives briefing on Fulbright Scholarship Program
The International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) has arranged a presentation for the students to brief them for the preparation of GRE/GMAT/TOEFL in collaboration with the United States Education Foundation (USEF) in Pakistan at the new campus of the university. Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad, Vice President (Academics), IIUI, Dr. Rehmat Elahi, Associate Professor, Department of Mathematics, IIUI, faculty members and a large number of M. Phil students of the university have attended the presentation. USEF delegation consists of Mr. Mazhar Qayyum, senior Director, Mr. Zafar Baig, Program Manager and Miss Sheeza, Education advisor USEF Pakistan.

Mr. Zafar Baig presented detailed presentation on the services offered by USEF about career counseling, test preparation, test techniques and importance of these tests. Students were also briefed about the techniques how to attempt the test and highlighted various parts of the tests. He said that USEF is offering the largest Fulbright scholarships in the world, and USEF Pakistan has pride to say that we are facilitating 180 scholars from Pakistan for studies in the universities of USA.

Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad shared his own experiences about Fulbright scholarship and thanked USEF Pakistan to come and guide the students for preparation of GRE/GMAT/TOEFL. Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad urged the students and faculty members to explore the opportunities offered by USEF Pakistan, as it is a great chance to acquire higher education from US universities.

Later, Mr. Zafar Baig presented gift of books of GRE/TOEFL to Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad for the library of the university. The presentation ended with Question & Answer session.

IIUI to hold training sessions on “Human Rights & Refugee Rights”
Department of Law, Faculty of Shariah & Law of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) is organizing two days training sessions separately for female and male students on “Human Rights and Refugee Rights” on September 26, 2012 at Fatima Tuz Zahra Block of the Female Campus of the university and 27 September, 2012 at Imam Abu Hanifa Block, New Campus, Sector H-10, of the university respectively. Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman, President IIUI shall grace the occasions. These training workshops are being organized in collaboration with Society For Human Rights and Prisoner Aid (SHARP) and United Nation High Commission For Refugees (UNHCR).

“Hajj Training Workshop” starts at IIUI
Dawah Centre for women of the Dawah Academy, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) has started four day’s “Hajj Training Workshop” for the women hajj pilgrims to provide them guidance about Hajj rituals and other related matters.

On day first Miss Shagufta Umar, Incharge Dawah Centre For Women of the university spoke on significance of Hajj and Umrah and introduction of Harmain Shareefain. Fozia Saeed spoke on philosophy of prayer related to Hajj & Umrah, Umrah Prayers. The workshop shall remain continue till September 27, 2012 and will guide the women and discuss various Hajj related issues.

IIUI Signs MOU With Ezzitouna University, Tunisia
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) and Ezzitouna University, Tunisia was held at Marriot Hotel, Islamabad here on Thursday. Heads and administrative officers of both the educational institutions were present on the occasion. Prof. Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman, President IIUI signed the MoU on behalf of IIUI while Dr. Abdul Jalil Salam, Rector Ezzitouna University, signed the MoU on behalf of Ezzitouna University, Tunisia. Mr. Hedi Ben Abbes, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Tunisia, Minister of state of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan Nawabzada Amad Ahmad Khan and Ambassador of Tunisia in Pakistan were also present on the occasion.

According to the MoU the faculty members of IIUI will contribute to research journals published by Ezzitouna University and both the universities will exchange English and Urdu publications, as well as exchange of books, dissertations, thesis and other educational materials for research and academic activities will also be ensured.

According to the MoU both the universities will exchange the services of faculty members, joint programmes and projects in the fields of research and publication and will cooperation each other in the preparation of joint syllabi, outlines, and teaching methodologies in different academic disciplines such as Shariah, Usul-ud-Din, Islamic Economics and Arabic. On this occasion Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman presented the IIUI Crest and publications to the distinguished guests.

DAWAH CENTRE FOR WOMEN TO HOLD 4 DAY “HAJJ TRAINING WORKSHOP”
Dawah Centre for women of the Dawah Academy, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) is organizing four day “Hajj Training Workshop” for the women hajj pilgrims to provide them guidance about Hajj rituals and other related matters. This four day workshop will remain continue at 09:00 am to 01:00 pm since September 24, 2012 to September 27, 2012 at Dawah Centre For Women, New Campus, IIU, Sector H-10, Islamabad.

Dawah Centre for women holds lecture on “Hijab in International Perspective”
“Hijab is the beauty and right of a Muslim woman and is a shield for women’s dignity and sanctity”, This was stated by Dr. Kousar Firdous, during a lecture on “Hijab in international Perspective” organized by the Dawah Centre for women, Dawah Academy, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI).

She urged to observe “Hijab Day” by the muslims with religious spirit on September 04 every year. She also condemned the ban on Hijab by the government of France and other countries as Hijab is the basic right of Muslim women. She said despite the fierce opposition, all over the world when a women embracing Islam, first of all she start struggle to get the right to wears Hijab but it is very sad to say that Pakistani women considered Hijab as a symbol of backwardness and repression which is totally a negative approach.

Female Faculty members, Female students and a large number of female staff members also attended the lecture. At the end a documentary on the subject of “Hijab” was also showed to the participants.

Islamic Countries scholar’s Delegation visited IIUI
A four member delegation of foreign Islamic scholars visited the Dr. Hameed Ullah Library of Islamic Research Institute of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) on Wednesday and called on Dr. Khalid Masood, Director General, Islamic Research Institute (IRI) and Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad, Executive Director, Iqbal International Institute for Research and Dialogue (IRD).

The Delegation headed by Dr. Mohayyudin Afifi, Dean Faculty of Islamic Studies, Jamai Tul Azhar, Egypt including Dr. Arif Zamhari of Indonesia, Maulana Obaidur Rehman of Bangladesh and Kamarulnizam bin Abdullah of Malaysia. Dr. Khalid Masood and Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad with other university scholars welcomed the delegation at IIUI and discussed bilateral issues with them. Dr. Mumtaz briefed the delegation about IIUI in detail while Dr. Khalid Masood shared the IRI works and achievements with the delegation. The delegation lauded the research work of IRI. Sets of IRI and IRD publications were also presented to the delegation on this occasion.

Islam is the most Clear, Accurate and Rational religion; Dr. Hussain Abdul Razzaq Algezairy
Islam is the religion which portrays all the rights to human beings as compared to the other religions. Immunization does not include any harmful ingredients, the term was misinterpreted. 97% children are immunized in Saudi Arabia and this was done under the supervision of Khadim-e-Harmain Sharifain”, This was said by the Director, Middle East Region of the World Health Organization (WHO) and former Minister of Finance of the Saudi Arabia Dr. Hussain Abdul Razzaq Algezairy, during a lecture in Training Programme for Imams organized by the Dawah Academy of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI).

Dr. Hussain Abdul Razzaq said that Islam is the most clear, accurate and rational religion. He said that this religion scared the East because Islam is spreading rapidly around the world. He said that Islam is the first religion to set rights not only for human beings but animals and plants. He said that immunization produces resistance against diseases in the children. He further said that in 1985 the number of disabled children in Pakistan was 30 thousands while the proportion of disabled children in Pakistan is only 200 today. This only became possible due to immunization.

Dr. Hussain Abdul Razzaq said that Islam pays full attention to the fitness and health of human being. Islam does not force any person other than few obligatory acts of worship however an individual is a reflection of the society therefore Islam stress upon the complete perfectness of human being in affairs.

At the end the question answer session was held in which Dr. Hussain Abdul Razzaq answered the questions raised by the participants.

IIUI: 5 day workshop on “Teaching Translation and Interpretation, Theory, Practice and Challenges” ended
A Five day Workshop under the auspicious Department of translation and interpretation of the Faculty of Arabic of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) with the collaboration of Higher Education commission (HEC) ended here at IIUI. The concluding ceremony of the workshop was held in the seminar room of the central library of IIUI which was presided by renowned scholar Prof. Jasim Taqi.

Dr. Inam ul Haq Ghazi the coordinator of the programme and head, Department of Translation and interpretation of Faculty of Arabic, IIUI presented a briefed report about the workshop and said that participants have learned so many new things from this workshop and they are now in better position to differentiate between the translation and interpretation. He thanked the HEC for the cooperation in holding such a purposeful workshop. Dr. Nighat Shakoor and Nasir Mehmood expressed their view about the workshop on this occasion and appreciated this effort of the faculty of Arabic.

On his concluding regards Dr. Jasim Taqi said that it is imperative for the progress and development of the nations to translate the information about the new disciplines and technology and adopt the mother languages for communication in this regard. He quoted the examples of Japan and Korea who were ruined in the second world war but they get new lives due to translations of different disciplines and technologies in their own languages and used their native languages for further communication, due to which they called the “Asian Tigers” now.

Dr. Habib ur Rehman Asim also expressed his views about the workshop on this occasion. At the end certificates were also distributed among the participants of the workshop.

Special advisor WHO called on President IIUI
Mr. Hussain A Gezairy, Special Advisor, World Health Organization (WHO) and Former Health Minister of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia called upon President International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) Prof. Dr. Sahibzada Sajid-ur-Rehman in the old campus, IIUI. Begum Shehnaz Wazir Ali, Special Assistant to the Prime Minster of Pakistan on Social sector was also present on the occasion. The distinguish guests discussed with details the Anti Polio campaign and hoped that IIUI will play its due role to promote the Polio Vaccination Campaign in the country. Dr. Sajid ur Rehman assured full cooperation in this regard. Earlier the guests have visited Faisal Masjid and showed deep interest in the architecture work of this unique mosque.

IIUI holds Panel Discussion on “Pakistan Today: Challenges and Responsibilities”
The Activity Centre of Female Campus of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) organized a panel discussion titled “ Pakistan Today: Challenges and Responsibilities” here on Thursday at Fatima-tu-Zohra Block of the Female Campus of the university. Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad, Vice President (Academics) IIUI presided over the Panel Discussion while Mr. Khalid Rehman, Director General, Institute of Policy Studies, Islamabad was the key speaker on the occasion. Dr. Munazza Yaqoob, Asstt Professor Department of English, IIUI, Dr. Najeeba Arif, Assistant Professor, Department of Urdu, Dr. Noor Fatima Department of Politics & IR, IIUI have expressed their views in panel discussion.

Khalid Rahman said that it was true that like any other country in the world, we as a nation, were also facing a number of issues. While addressing these issues we need to adopt a positive and proactive approach which requires looking at the opportunities that the current situation offers rather than difficulties.

“Focusing on opportunities – whether we talk of individuals, organizations or a community or nation – gives strength to face the challenges” he stressed, adding, “Following the same approach one should not overlook the achievements that Pakistan and its people have made in education, technology, living standards and infrastructure. He opined that while it was important to expose the external forces which have been playing a role in creating instability in Pakistan, one should not expect them to be friendly at the cost of their vested interest.

While discussing on the topic first Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad condemned the losses of human in the fire incident took place in a garment factor at Karachi and said that there should be proper protections for the workers at the workplaces. He then said that the problems of Pakistan are poverty, illiteracy, security and social injustice. He added that there is no dignity to the lives of the people of this country.

Dr. Mumtaz further added that the politicians and the statesman are failed to address the fundamental issues of the people of Pakistan. Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad concluded that despite all the challenges of our country we have a brilliant future not far away and can be achieved through proper planning and hardworking.

On the second day of the workshop, Saniha Khalid, Training Management Specialist, Institute of Professional Development (IPD) delivered a lecture on “Help Your Students Help Themselves, Be a Role Model”. The participants heard that lecture with a lot of attention. The question, answers session was also held on the occasion. The workshop shall remain continue till 14th September, 2012.

IIUI: 5 day workshop on “Teaching Translation and Interpretation, Theory, Practice and Challenges” starts today
A five days workshop under the Auspicious of Faculty of Arabic of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) with the collaboration of Higher Education Commission (HEC) started here today in the new campus of the university. The topic of the workshop is “Teaching Translation and Interpretation, Theory, Practice and Challenges”.

Prof. Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman President IIUI presided over the inaugural session of workshop. Speaking on the occasion Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman highlighted the importance of translation in transformation of knowledge from one language to another and said that it is impossible to transform knowledge from one language to another without proper translation.

He said that due to these translations the scholars and Ulema of Sub-continent became familiar with the knowledge of Quran, Hadith, Fiqh etc He said that there was a time that the western world was looking for knowledge fields towards the Muslim world for knowledge in difference disciplines but it is sorry to say that now a days the Muslim scholars are going to the western universities to seek knowledge of Quran, Hadith and other Islamic disciplines.

He said that it is the need of the hour to establish translation departments in each and every university to transform the Quranic as well as the knowledge about the modern disciplines in the native languages. He assured all possible cooperation to the Faculty of Arabic in this regards.

Earlier Dr. Inam Ul Haq Ghazi, Coordinator of the programme briefed the participants about the workshop and said that IIU is the first university of Pakistan which introduced the four years BS degree of translation and Interpretation. He added that MS Programme of translation and interpretation will also be introduced next year which will be converted in Ph. D programme later on. He tanked the HEC for cooperation and assistance for holding of the said workshop.

Dr. Muhammad Bashir, the acting Dean of Faculty of Arabic also speak on the occasion. Mr. Kashif Sohail Malik, Dr. Fadeela Daud, Dr. Jassim Taqui delivered lectures on different topics on the first day of the workshop. The workshop shall remain continue till 14th September, 2012.

Qari Mubashir Dilawar represents Pakistan in Husn-e-Qirat Competition to be held in Iran September 12.
National award holder Qari and Student of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI), Qari Mubashir Dilawar Khattak shall represent Pakistan in the “3rd International Husn-e-Qirat Competition” for young Qaris of the Muslim countries, to be held at Tabriz, Iran, on September 12, 2012.

Qari Mubashir will participate in the competition on the invitation of Government of Islamic Republic of Iran. Young Qaris from more than 65 Islamic countries are participating in this International Husn-e-Qirat Competition. Earlier, Qari Mubashir Dilawar represented Pakistan in numerous competitions of Qirat in Iran, Malaysia and various national competitions. The Govt of Pakistan as a reward of his achievements in Qirat has awarded him with National Award in 2010.

Anti-Dengui Fumigation in IIUI
In order to eradicate the effects of dengue virus within the campuses of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI), Anti-Dengue fumigation is going to be carried out through the IIUI Campuses. The fumigation exercise would be taken place at new campus sector H-10 on 7-8 September,2012 at 1700 hrs to 1900 hrs while in the Faisal Masjid campus fumigation exercise is scheduled to be on 9-10 September, 2012 at 1700 hrs to 1900 hrs.

IIUI to hold lecture on “An Anarchist Critique of Liberal Political Theory and Its Relevance to the Muslim World”
Iqbal International Institute for Research & Dialogue (IRD) of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) is holding a lecture on “An anarchist critique of liberal political theory and its relevance to the Muslim world”. The lecture will be held on Monday, 10 September, 2012 at 11:30 am in the Seminar Room of the Central Library of the university. Mr. Omar Shaukat lecturer in Philosophy and Religious Studies at the University of Virginia, USA shall deliver the lecture. The purpose of holding this lecture is to encourage the culture of intellectual dialogue among the students and faculty members of the university.

IIUI: Meeting of Officers with President
A monthly meeting of the officers of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) headed by Prof. Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman, President IIUI was held in the new campus of the university here on Wednesday.

Prof. Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman while expressing his views about the new academic year 2012 said that it is a matter of pleasure that as compared to previous year this year more students have gotten admission in IIUI which is the sign of trust, shown by the parents and students on the university. He offered congratulation to the team who worked day and night to make the admission campaign fruitful. Performance of the various departments of the university was also reviewed in the meeting and valuable suggestions were offered for their improvement. Keeping in view these suggestions some decisions were taken accordingly.
