The International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) organized a seminar to mark World Environment Day 2025 at the male campus, in collaboration with the Institute of Urbanism, Islamabad. The event was jointly arranged by the Green Youth Movement (GYM) Club, IIUI, the Directorate of Students Affairs (Male), and the Institute of Urbanism.
Held at Male Campus, the seminar drew significant participation from students, class representatives, and faculty members of various departments. The session aimed to raise awareness about the environmental and health impacts of open waste burning and to explore sustainable alternatives.
The event comprised two key segments: a seminar titled “Impact of Open Waste Burning on Human Health and Environment” and a panel discussion on “Exploring Sustainable Alternatives to Open Waste Burning.”
The sessions featured prominent environmentalists and academic experts, including Dr. M. Irfan Khan, Dr. M. Ejaz, and Mr. Ashiq Nawaz (Director, Environmental Impact Assessment), who shared valuable insights on eco-friendly practices and urban sustainability. Ms. Tayyaba Pervez delivered an informative presentation during the session. The audience showed keen interest and actively engaged in the Q&A segment.
In his concluding remarks, Dr. Hafiz Muhammad Naseer, Focal Person GYM Club, IIUI, emphasized the role of youth in environmental stewardship and appreciated the joint efforts of all organizing bodies. Dr. H. Ghufran Ahmed, Director Students Affairs (Male), also appreciated the enthusiasm of participants and encouraged similar initiatives in the future.
Special acknowledgment was extended to Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed, Dean Faculty of Sciences, Dr. Syeda Maria Ali, Chairperson Department of Environmental Science, Dr. Islamuddin, In-charge DES, and Dr. Zafeer Saqib for their guidance and support.
The seminar concluded with a renewed commitment to environmental awareness, academic collaboration, and sustainability.
