The International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) marked World Arabic Language Day at the Female Campus with a calligraphy exhibition and academic session organized by the Faculty of Arabic. The event carried the global theme displayed on the main backdrop: The Arabic Language: Our Past and Our Present, reflecting the significance of Arabic in cultural, intellectual, and civilizational heritage.
The program was hosted at the Fatima tuz-Zahra Auditorium, where the stage was set with thematic Arabic calligraphy décor prepared by students. A special exhibition, supervised by Dr. Moid Fazil, Associate Professor, showcased classical to modern Arabic calligraphic styles produced by students and faculty members.
Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Sardar Muhammad Yousaf inaugurated the calligraphy gallery and reviewed the artworks. He appreciated the creative efforts of students and commended IIUI for promoting Arabic language learning at both academic and community levels.
Dr. Samya Nazish, In-charge Arabic Faculty at the Female Campus, conducted the proceedings. The Dean Faculty of Arabic explained the purpose of celebrating World Arabic Language Day globally and outlined the role of the Arabic language in preserving scholarly and cultural continuity.
Dr. Saleh Sulaiman A. Alghofaili, Advisor to Prof. Dr. Ahmed Saad Alahmed, President International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), on Student Activities and Male Hostels Affairs, inaugurated the academic session. He conveyed the President’s message emphasizing that Arabic connects Muslim societies and strengthens access to religious, intellectual, and educational sources.
Dr. Fazlullah, Dean of Arabic, briefed participants on the history, evolution, and global relevance of Arabic. He highlighted the contributions of IIUI’s Arabic graduates within Pakistan and abroad, and encouraged wider promotion of Arabic education at the national level.
Dr. Moid Fazil spoke on the rich heritage of Arabic calligraphy and its artistic value, while Dr. Abdul Mujeeb Bassam and Dr. Mohammed Al Qarni highlighted Arabic as a language of knowledge, literature, and global scholarship. They stressed its essential role in understanding Islamic texts and participating in international academic dialogue.
Addressing the gathering as Chief Guest, Federal Minister Sardar Muhammad Yousaf said Arabic is the language of the Quran and Hadith and holds central importance for the Muslim world. He appreciated IIUI’s environment, academic initiatives, and the leadership role of the university’s President. He reiterated the Ministry’s support for establishing Arabic language centres nationwide and noted the importance of strengthening Pakistan–Saudi Arabia educational cooperation.
Shields, gifts, and certificates were presented to students and faculty members at the end of the event. A shield was also presented to the Federal Minister in recognition of his participation.
