IIUI CONGRATULATES STUDENT LARAIB KHAN ON WINNING MCCALL MACBAIN REGIONAL AWARD

Islamabad – Laraib Khan, a student of Department of Media and Communication Studies (DMCS), Faculty of Social Sciences at Female Campus of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), has been awarded the prestigious C$10,000 McCall MacBain Regional Award for higher studies in Canada. She was selected among the top candidates from South Asia for her leadership, academic excellence, and community engagement.

Laraib is currently completing her BS in Media and Communication Studies at IIUI. She has contributed to various initiatives, including volunteering in communications at the National Institute for Health, leading the Media Forum discussion series at IIUI, and mentoring young Afghan women in content writing and graphic design through Girls Towards Leadership. She also interned as a junior communications officer at CERN in 2022.

Expressing her thoughts on the award, Laraib said that “Applying for the McCall MacBain Regional Award was a journey of self-reflection and discovery. It’s more than just a scholarship, it’s a transformative experience that shapes your future.”

Prof. Dr. Ahmed Shuja Syed, President of IIUI, extended his heartfelt congratulations, stating:

Laraib’s success reflects the university’s commitment to nurturing talent and preparing students for global opportunities. The In-Charge of the Female Campus, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, and the Head of the Department of Media and Communication Studies including faculty of the Media Department at Female Campus, also commended Laraib’s outstanding achievement, encouraging other students to explore international opportunities and strive for excellence in their respective fields.

The McCall MacBain Scholarships were established through a historic C$200 million donation in 2019. Applications for the 2026 cohort open in June 2025. More details can be found at mccallmacbainscholars.org.
