The International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) convened a meeting of the Special Committee on Emerging Technologies, Digital Pakistan, and the Prime Minister’s INSPIRE Initiative as part of the University’s ongoing efforts to align its academic and research direction with national strategic priorities.

The meeting was chaired by Prof. Dr. Ahmed Shuja Syed, Vice President (Research & Enterprise), and was held under the special initiative and guidance of Prof. Dr. Ahmed Saad Alahmed, President, International Islamic University Islamabad. The session aimed to apprise committee members of the Government of Pakistan’s focus on Digital Pakistan and the INSPIRE initiative as key national priority areas in emerging technologies, digital transformation, and advanced skill development.

During the meeting, committee members were briefed on the responsibilities of universities in responding to these national initiatives through strategic alignment of curricula, academic programs, research agendas, and funding approaches. A comprehensive review was conducted of the current status of academic and research programs and initiatives within the Faculty of Computing and the Faculty of Engineering, focusing on relevance, preparedness, and alignment with national policy frameworks.

To take this agenda forward, specific assignments were given to sub-groups within the committee to undertake focused assessments and submit detailed reports with recommendations. These inputs will contribute to a sustained and structured effort to develop new and revised academic and research programs supported by financial and business assessments, key performance indicators, and strategies aimed at enhanced student enrolment.

The committee will continue its work in line with its approved Terms of Reference, with the objective of positioning IIUI to effectively contribute to national digital transformation goals while ensuring academic relevance, institutional sustainability, and alignment with government policies and funding opportunities.
