Funeral prayers in absentia were offered on Thursday at the New Campus of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) for Prof. Dr. N.B. Jumani, the former Vice President of the university.
It was attended by a large number of faculty members, administrative officers, and employees, including the President of IIUI Dr. Muhammad Sarwar, Vice Presidents, Deans, and Directors General (DGs). Following the Namaz-e-Janaza, attendees offered heartfelt prayers for the departed soul, seeking peace and eternal rest for Dr. Jumani.
Prof. Dr. Jumani, aged 58, passed away last Saturday during surgery and was laid to rest in his native village in Sindh. His untimely death has left the university community in deep grief, with many remembering his dedicated service and lasting contributions to the academic field.
Dr. Nabi Bux Jumani was a distinguished academic and educator with over 31 years of experience. He held a PhD in Education from Allama Iqbal Open University and completed his post-doctoral studies in Distance Education from Deakin University, Australia. Renowned for his work in distance learning and program design, he authored over 100 research papers and contributed 11 chapters to educational curriculums. Dr. Jumani supervised more than 20 PhD and 32 MS scholars and led major projects funded by USAID, the EU, and UNESCO. He also served as Editor for the International Journal of Distance Education and Asian Journal of Distance Education, leaving an enduring legacy in both academic leadership and education policy reforms.
