
The Faculty of Arabic (Female Section) at International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) inaugurated an Arabic Calligraphy Exhibition on Monday at the Auditorium of the Fatima-tuz-Zahra Block, showcasing the artistic talent and cultural engagement of its students.
The exhibition was organized under the patronage of IIUI President Prof. Dr. Ahmed Saad Alahmad and Dean Faculty of Arabic Prof. Dr. Fadlullah Fadl Al-Ahad. The ceremony was attended by senior faculty members, distinguished guests, and a large number of students.
The event commenced with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an, followed by a welcome address by Prof. Dr. Fadlullah Fadl Al-Ahad. In his remarks, he highlighted the historical and civilizational importance of Arabic calligraphy, describing it as a symbol of identity and a refined artistic expression of the Arabic language. He emphasized that preserving and promoting Arabic script is integral to safeguarding cultural heritage.
The Chief Guest, Justice Dr. Syed Muhammad Anwar of the Federal Shariat Court of Pakistan, appreciated the high artistic standard of the exhibited works. He termed the establishment of an Institute of Arabic Calligraphy an academic and civilizational necessity, aligning it with the broader vision and mission of the University.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Shuja Syed, Vice President (Research & Enterprise), reaffirmed the University’s commitment to initiatives that harmonize tradition with modern academic excellence, noting that such cultural programs strengthen IIUI’s educational philosophy.
In his keynote address, President IIUI Prof. Dr. Ahmed Saad Alahmad commended the Faculty of Arabic (Female Section) for organizing the exhibition and lauded the students for their creativity and dedication. He assured continued administrative support for programs that promote the Arabic language and its rich artistic traditions.
The exhibition was supervised by Prof. Dr. Moyyed Fadil, who oversaw both the academic and organizational aspects of the accompanying calligraphy course, ensuring the quality and success of the showcased work.
The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Samia Nazish, Incharge, Faculty of Arabic (Female Campus). She expressed gratitude to the guests, faculty members, and participating students, and proposed allocating the Grand Hall as a permanent venue for future Arabic calligraphy courses, underscoring the academic and cultural significance of this distinguished art form.
