IIUI: DCW HOLDS SEMINAR ON ECONOMIC RIGHTS OF WOMEN IN THE LIGHT OF SEERAH OF PROPHET (SWA)

Dawah Center for Women (DCW), International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) organized a one day seminar titled “Economic Rights of Women in the light of Seerah of Prophet Muhammad (SAW)” with the collaboration of Seerah Chair Gender Studies and Women Rights Punjab University and Scholars Council International Muslim Women Union (IMWU), here at New Campus.

Dr. Shahida Parveen, Head of Seerah Chair Gender Studies, Women Rights Punjab University was Chief Guest while, Dr. Kausar Firdous, Director (Training), Ripha International University and Head of International Muslim Women Union chaired the seminar. During the seminar speakers shared importance of women at home and in society in the light of Seerah of Prophet Muhammad (SWA) and shared that over fourteen hundred years ago, Islam gave women basic rights.

Dr. Zaitoon Begum, Former Director, Female Campus (IIUI) termed the seminar vital for highlighting economic rights of women in the light of Seerah of Prophet Muhammad (SWA) and said that hopefully this seminar will open up new dimensions of thoughts and help set the path for action. Later, Ms Faryal Ambreen explained the Qur’anic view of wealth.

Ms Rukhsana Meer, Assistant Professor Shariah & Law highlighted women’s financial rights in the light of Islamic jurisprudence. Dr. Shahida Parveen, while discussing the financial rights of women in contemporary, said that Islam gave women basic rights besides human rights as a human being. However, due to ignorance of Islamic teachings and disregarding of divine orders, the violation of women’s financial rights is a moment of concern for society. It is important that women can play a fundamental role in educating the society with Islamic teachings and encouraging action.

Addressing to participants Dr. Samea Raheel Qazi, Chairperson Council of Trustees, International Muslim Women Union said that if honor and love are given to a woman, she can make the impossible possible.

Dr. Kausar Firdous in here speech said that the protection of the financial rights of a Muslim woman was so favorable in Islam that not only her relatives but also the state were obliged to pay her rights, she further added that knowledge is essential for voicing against false customs in Pakistani society, promote religious customs, as well as respond to the world’s misunderstandings and propaganda must be answered on the academic front.

The seminar was conducted by Ms Shagufta Omer, Incharge Dawah Center for Women (DCW) while, a large number of students and faculty members participated in the seminar.
